  1. LOL I can just see him getting stopped by some TV reporter looking for reaction. "So, what did you think of the movie?" "Movie? What movie? I just went to a John Williams concert. "
  2. Good example too. But that middle section that is edited out of the OST was added late, so maybe the CD was already locked? Plus, at least we got a whole cue that ended up being unused in the film.
  3. The one that really burns me are the statements of the Ring theme (the best theme in the trilogy) that have been removed from the Prolouge on the CD of Fellowship (the best score of the trilogy). Still, at least we know that we're getting complete releases of those soon. They're something to be said of being popular. Overrated, but popular.
  4. This really bugs me too. One that comes to mind is the removal of the statement of the Emperor's Theme from the AOTC finale. An extra what, 20 seconds? The Library Scene cue from HP:SS/PS is another one. 3 minutes on the CD, a good 6 in the film. The LOTR OSTs are loaded with this issue too. Editing from the middle of cues for the CD is just EVIL. EEEEEEEEEEVIL!
  5. Excellent, thank you John! I was planning on having to do this for my own film edit after I see the film, but now we have something to go on already. If you plan on doing something as detailed as your Ep. II cue breakdown I look forward to seeing it. John Takis- he never posts, but he comes through when it counts!
  6. Organize? What's that? I have a CD shelf, and they end up wherever I put them last. I keep series together (SW, HP, IJ, Star Trek) but that's about it. Same thing with my movie DVDs. My TV DVDs I put in order of season, though.
  7. Or is it that JW has been around so long now that we have become very familiar with his style and things SEEM repetative sometimes. I'm no expert, but when you've been the most popular composer in the world for 30 something years, tons of people scrutinizing every note, it's inevitable that some things might end up sounding similar. I think he's as creative as he ever was. You single out action cues in particular. In the past few years I am continually amazed at how every action cue he writes has such a distinct feel (yet a similar style) and sound completely original. POA is no exception.
  8. Anyone who compares anything written by Horner to ESB, and says that Horner is better, has probably never even listened to ESB, much less owns the CD.
  9. Hook is not a good film at all, which makes me appreciate the score that much more, that JW could create such a masterpiece with so little to work with. Not to mention that it was going to be a musical when he started to work on it.
  10. OK, a consensus minus one. One standing very alone....
  11. And well deserved, as it is the greatest theme Williams has or will ever write. I stand slightly corrected, but Pan still has the most mentions for a specific cue or track. By the way, Light of the Force and Funeral Pyre are the same cue. Just different titles depending on which release you're listening to.
  12. Or the next. How could you have Heaven without new Williams music?
  13. I think that we're getting a consensus that The Face of Pan/You Are The Pan is the most beautiful Williams piece ever. It's on all but a couple of lists.
  14. In no particular order.... Across the Stars The Hologram/Binary Sunset Light of the Force Han Solo and the Princess You Are The Pan TIE Love Theme from Superman/The Flying Sequence Harry's Wonderous World The Parish Church Aflame The Map Room Yoda's Theme
  15. 99% of the time I prefer to listen to complete scores rather than mix and match my favorite cues. Just hearing the narrative flow through the score is one of my favorite things. But, I have made 2 CDs compiling all the JW concert works I own, and a couple of other near concert pieces (and 1 Goldsmith cause I had room). If I get in the mood, I'll close my eyes to pick one and then put the CD player on random so I don't know what's coming next. And since you listed your tracks, I'll list mine: Disc 1 Star Wars:Main Title Suite (edited from ANH SE) Leia's Theme Imperial March Yoda's Theme Luke and Leia March of the Ewoks The Forest Battle Duel of the Fates Anakin's Theme Across the Stars Superman Main Title concert March of the Villians Love Theme from Superman Raiders March ET Flying Theme Disc 2 Harry's Wonderous World (COS version) Hedwig's Theme Hogwarts Forever Gildroy Lockhart Fawkes' Theme Dobby the Elf The Chamber of Secrets Theme from Jurassic Park Jurassic Park end credits album version (for the Journey to the Island fanfare) The Patriot Olympic Theme and Fanfare The Olympic Spirit Summon the Heroes Call of the Champions Ilia's Theme- Goldmith ST:TMP I really wish I had some of the Hook concert pieces, maybe someday.
  16. "Cakes for Crabbe and Goyle" from HP COS. Wonderful stuff, bumbling tubas and showing off the versatility of the Nimbus 2000 theme. I must admit that I laughed my butt off the first time I heard "The Knight Bus", knowing how funny that scene should be. Most of the statements of the March of the Villians in Superman work well for humor too.
  17. This makes me think of the Star Wars ep of That 70s Show. A classic. Not to mention the SW references in many episodes.
  18. How can you compare Horner and Williams? It's like comparing McDonald's to a gormet resturant.
  19. Foreshadowing, my friend. Even if it was foreshadowing with a hammer over the head.
  20. I vote between yes and no. I love the new statement of Nimus 2000 and the orchestral Double Trouble. The rest could have been shorter, though, as it is just rehash. As far as the raging debate over how Williams puts his albums together, he's always catered the casual fan more than us hardcores. How do we like our scores? Complete and cronological (most of us, anyway). How do we get them? Partial and jumbled. Some more than others. AOTC and SS/PS were relativley in order, while TPM (the OST) and COS were a mess, cronologically speaking. These are good examples as they are the extremes, most others are in the middle. John- who knows what he's talking about because he obsessively re-edits all his JW 1-disc OSTs to fit film order. And who also thinks Mike Matessino is The Man.
  21. I am waiting for the real ROTK DVD to be released. I consider the Extended cuts to be the definitive version as well, but I still like to have the theatrical cuts just as a collectable. Call me a sucker if you will, but at least I didn't buy every cover the AOTC soundtrack, unlike some people here.
  22. Excellent! I hope you have a great time. The WWII memorial is LONG overdue and I can't wait to go to Washington and see it myself. From the pictures I've seen it looks beautiful.
