  1. Oh yeah? he has said that in an interview? I didn't know it.. Yes, it's a pity most directors go to that direction nowadays. It seems like they're afraid of music somehow in their film. well, anyway, at least i have hundreds of old films to watch and enjoy the music!
  2. So, Thor, let's say that you were the director and had the option today to pick either Williams, or Goldsmith, or Poledouris, or Bernard herrmann (if they were still alive), or Zimmer.. Your first choice would be Zimmer? I know, it's a very hypothetical question, but I'm trying to understand a bit your way of thinking. It would depend on the movie, wouldn't it? I'm talking about the specific movie, Interstellar. I can't imagine what the result would be if he had a composer like Goldenthal, or Korzeniowski, or even Danny Elfman (in a remote style from his Burton-fairytale one)!
  3. I completely completely agree! But the prejudice (either negative, or positive towards a person), is always there in people. Education tries to change that a bit. (meaning if you're educated on something, you can be more impartial - as can be - towards that something) I tried recently to explain to some, that were so enthusiastic about a Williams concert piece I think (but otherwise don't listen to classical music), that if the exact same piece hadn't had the name Williams on it, but the name Zacharia Petrovich (just a random name), not only they wouldn't call it a masterpiece, but they wouldn't even care to listen to it!

  5. I'm partial towards Marlon Brando in general, so... But I'll watch that too for sure. I see it got an oscar for best picture!
  6. Oh, haven't seen that!! (just kidding of course) yeah, thanks. I've seen the Marlon Brando version. I may as well add Le grand Bleu (1988)
  7. I undestand many of you don't watch old films but only recent ones, but i was wondering if anyone has recommendations for classic summer movies. I like to watch films relevant to season every time, so since summer arrived I'd appreciate any good recommendations.. films like: The Deep (1977) The Blue Lagoon (1980) Summertime (1955) Seven year itch (1955) Stand by Me (1986) Plein Soleil (1960) On Golden Pond (1981) The parent Trap (1961) Room for one More (1952) Mr. Hobbs takes a vacation (1962) Summer Magic (1963) The Moon Spinners (1964) Swiss Family Robinson (1960) The Naked Jungle (1954) The genres i prefer the most are drama, musical, romance, family, adventure and the genre i prefer the least is horror.
  8. i just saw by accident, that the music of Yentl was noninated both for an Oscar for best score (actually it won!), and was also nominated for worst score at the Razzies! This is crazy! haven't listened to the score, but how could this happen? (another such crazy thing about this film is that Amy Irving, had the same fate. She was nominated both for an oscar and a Razzie! Does anyone know other such film scores ?
  9. you mean the old classic one, right? (waiting excitingly for Total Recall (classic version), Legend, and Labyrinth)
  10. I didn't know where to ask this. (is there a General movie discussion?) anyway, i just saw an episode of Glee and it was really tense, and it made me start an interest in school massacre films. has anyone seen Elephant? or Zero hour? (the first is on Bluray). I would like to see them, but many times i'm overly influenced by movies, and I'm a bit afraid to do so.. ( I remember when i saw the spanish horror film REC, i had something like a panic attack in then end)
  11. WOW! Excellent job! thank you very much! in addition to King mark's suggestion, so as not to lose quality, you can download foolbar2000, which plays FLAC files.
  12. there are plugins that slower the tempo without altering the pitch of the piece.
  13. I also had the exact same problem Miguel. I use Firefox. Anyway, i found the solution. i pressed the download file, it took me to the page where it has the player and plays the file (in my case a Quicktime player), and in that page i go to the firefox toolbar , File - save page as (i assume this is the translation in english because I have it in Greek), and it saves the 2.3 MB mp3. This is not a different intro! it's the intro of the piece, it's just that the one that is in the start, misses those first few bars (almost 8 bars) due to the video not starting from the start of the piece. maybe someone could grab that intro, and glue it to the piece we have from the start of the video?
  14. Thank you very much for finding this (and Thor for the mp3)!
  15. I saw a bit in the Alien 3 segment. What is the computer doing which shows in some scenes?
  16. Goodbye Mr Chips has sold out from all shops?
  17. Haha!! Ok, I got it! I am the only one! I think the scenes i got a bit bored were all the preparatory scenes when they went out to sea to find the shark. Don't know.. I have to watch the film again.. And i was more in the edge of my seat in jaws 2 with the kids.. I didn't care what will happen to Richard Dreyfuss and the captain in the first movie, but i surely cared for those kids in the second! But why? Do you think the kids from Jaws 2 were better developed characters than the ones from Jaws? Perhaps their acting was better? IMO, the only truly good thing that came out of Jaws 2 is the CD so I'm trying to understand this. I mean, I don't even remember the kids from Jaws 2. Blimey, I don't even remember the film. Maybe you think Spielberg's direction is horrible because he doesn't make you care? It might be next to impossible but let's try to get to the bottom of this. When I'll watch the 2 films again, I'll come back with my opinion.. Now it's been 6-7 years since I last watched them, and I have watched them 2-3 times tops each one totally.. So, I don't know them like the palm of my hand like eg E.T., or Raiders.. the thing I can think of right now concerning this, is that childern are more helpless in my mind, in comparison with grown-ups who know what they're doing..
  18. This is a concert tour film. I'm talking about a normal narrative film of course.

  20. because it's a currently running tv show???? oh, right, I had never thought of that.. I just discovered the show, and it my mind it passed like an old show.. But I think I'd love to see a 2,5 hour movie version of it (like Sex and the City) which will kind of revive the old Broadway musical type of films I love. I hope they'll think of it! (the only character and storyline I don't like at all is Sue's.) By the way, I didn't understand Quint's post.. (will be watching now last episode of season 2)
  21. I'm just watching Glee. Started it from an episode of Season 2 and on.. Wow, it has fantastic songs and arrangements! Especially the Broadway/symphonic ones!! I'm surprised that they didn't release a movie of it!
  22. I've seen some mentions of Jaws 2. I don't know, but am I the only one that thinks it's better than Jaws? Of course I have to see both films again, it's a long time since I last saw them.. But I remember being bored a bit in Jaws..
  23. I loooooove SPACECAMP, and I liked Diamond Head too. I agree about 1941, it's one of the few Spielberg films (or perhaps the only one), that I can't stand..
