  1. I've just listened to the first two tracks here at work and was far from bowled over. One theme has returned, but it doesn't have the memorability that the first one had for me. Maybe not the best listening conditions, but based on my judgement so far, a purchase seems unlikely. Edit - now 6 tracks in, and I'm even less impressed. It all seems to be percussion, barely any thematic statements.
  2. I reads somewhere it was Shy-ah Le-buff. Damn, why can't people give their kids normal names?
  3. Try before you buy. That's the best policy.
  4. Wow, an end titles suite actually included on the album. That doesn't happen very often, and nearly 9 mins... mouthwatering Also, given how lightly scored Night's movies are, and that some of those tracks are quite short, I'd like to think maybe we're getting close to the complete score. JNH's kicking JW's album making ass! Very tempted to preorder this.
  5. The words "utterly pointless" and "I'm bored" do rather tend to lower your expectations somewhat.
  6. I didn't find the film boring when I watched it (and I've only see it once), but I did find myself thinking... ok, what exactly does this mean?... during large parts. I do hate those people who say that if you find it boring then you're *obviously* a boring person with no taste for great cinema. Yes, it may say "things" about us, and our beliefs, but it's just one man's vision, who's said himself that there's no one interpretation of it.
  7. 3.5 stars A solid JNH effort, but I reserve 5 stars for scores that really hit the mark for me.
  8. And that's a typical fanboy comment as well.
  9. You're getting nearly 90 tracks, or 5 hours of music. I think you'd really have to either own a huge amount of Varese scores already or have a very, very narrow taste in scores not to find a lot to like on this set.
  10. Almost completely agreed. I think the main theme also lacks originality to an almost irritating level - what happened to the guy who wrote the Usual Suspects themes?
  11. I've never understood people's fixation with Peter Pan. Sure, it's a nice score and works great in the film, but IMO it's hardly the best showcase for his talents. In fact, I didn't like it much before I saw the film, and realised how appropriate all the over the top and mickey mouse parts were for the tone of the movie. Just what is it then, that makes a score 'good' for you?
  12. I purchased it from 7Digital, and it's a very varied release. Maybe a few of the track selections are not optimum and maybe 4 or 5 are excessively modern or techno, but there's no question that it's exposed me to lots of new composers, and I now legally own a small slice of my existing collection
  13. Nice, thoughtful score, but has too many duller areas to give it full marks. 3.5
  14. Not everyone. I just don't think sound clips do enough justice.
  15. Anyone who doesn't like at least something by HGW on MV grounds is an idiot IMO. I don't have much by him, but the Shrek scores and Chicken Run, to name two (contributed to) by him are largely devoid of the MV sound. There are bits of Narnia I don't like much - the main theme for instance is a power anthem, no escaping that, but amongst the weaker areas I think are some beautiful pieces, and the expanded boot is a good listen. And Genius - I get the impression that "never buy another non-williams score again" was a spur of the moment comment - I really hope it was.
  16. Only a couple of the samples made me think "year, this is going to be really good". But that's all they are - samples. I'm confident that the full CD will be a good ride. Less enticing than Minority Report? No way. I find most of that score somewhat boring.
  17. I'm going to quote you on that next time you triumphantly declare Williams has lost his bottle.
  18. Oh please no. I like Jack Sparrow and the first half of Davy Jones. The CD would be a coaster for me if they weren't included.
  19. For once we're on the same page I don't believe anyone can tell the difference between a well encoded mp3 and a CD, at least on a computer system.
  20. I've tried looking for a 5.1 rip of the show, without any luck. All I have is a YouTube rip.
