  1. From JW's liner notes of the Original STAR WARS DLP release: "For "Ben‘s Death" I used part of the Princess Theme in the beginning. l felt it had the most sweeping melody of all the themes in the score. This wildly romantic music in this tragic setting represents Luke's and the Princess' reaction to leaving Ben behind." So form trumps over content. The music doesn't fit thematically but for JW it just sounds better. (Which reminds me of someone at this board calling the use of "The Arena" from AOTC in the scene where Anakin leads the stormtroopers to the Jedi Temple in ROTS "inacceptable". Sounds to me like the kind of people who would tell Picasso to "use a bit more blue here"...) As for "Duel of the Fates" when Anakin rides his speeder bike across the desert in AOTC: It's music for a Jedi being seduced by the dark side. It's a perfect fit. Why object to it?
  2. Just showing off: http://www.jw-collection.de/films/jw_oscar.htm

  4. Check out this CD: http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/B00...9485133-4234207 It's the soundtrack of a German movie with quite a few versions of "Gloomy Sunday".
  5. The LP "Rhythm in Motion - Johnny Williams and His Orchestra" was released by Philips (SBBL 669/847162) in 1961. Here are the front and back cover of the LP: For more information on "The Early Years", check my website The JOHN WILLIAMS Collection
  6. I started this project on Jan 10, and a month later there is a really fine collection of piano recordings available at my website. Thanks to those who sent me their work! Today Andrew Hewitt from London contributed five pieces to my download section. You can now listen to piano renditions of - Princess Leia's Theme (Star Wars) - You Are The Pan (Hook) - Theme from JFK - Remembrances (Schindler's List) - Artificial Intelligence I'm also very happy about a new viola solo my wife Katrin performed. Go to "Viola Solos" and listen to "Monica's Theme". You can find my website here
  7. I like your site - well done!
  8. Hi Stefancos, is there a chance of getting a copy of this CD? I like new renditions of familiar themes...
  9. Hi there! It would be great if I could add your contribution to the "piano project". Please write to me at Markus.Hable@t-online.de

  12. Sorry, the "Guest" was me.
  13. Here we go again... Oliver just recorded a wonderful piano rendition of "Hedwig's Theme". And then he did something very special - he mixed Katrin's viola solo and his piano solo to create a hauntingly beautiful version of "Fawkes the Phoenix". Both tracks can be downloaded at my website. Thank you, Oliver!
  14. Oliver Reichhardt just sent me the complete version of his piano recording "Fawkes the Phoenix". Check my website
  15. Incited by all this piano activity, Katrin Hable has recorded a viola rendition of "Fawkes the Phoenix". Check my website

  19. Thanks for the encouragement. And I'd like to thank the people who wrote to me and offered their help So far I received several scans of sheet music and two piano mp3s, and I expect a CD with five piano tracks in the mail tomorrow. Then there are the three piano tracks that are due by the end of February - so I think I can open an new download section on my website pretty soon. Keep 'em coming...
  20. @ scissorhand @ Kradia If you have recorded your piano solo on MiniDisc, you need to - connect your MiniDisc with your PC soundcard - play the music from the MiniDisc and record it with a WaveEditor Then you have a large wav file on your hard drive that you can - burn on CD or - compress to a small mp3 file If you need to know more or don't have the necessary tools, write to me at Markus.Hable@-online.de
  21. Two links that I posted on this board were removed by Ricard because of "legal problems". I respect that, of course, but since you all know about my little piano project now, I'd like to continue "in private". If some of you send me their piano recordings, I will surely present them on my website or provide you with a CD-R of the piano collection. So if you can play the piano and want to "borrow" sheet music from me, please write to Markus.Hable@t-online.de Thanks.
  22. The Eagle has landed... Dr. Jones sent me his piano recording of "Call of the Champions", so I think my little project is getting started. Thank you, Dr. Jones! @ scissorhands: Thanks for your support. Could you please send me sheet music for - Yoda's Theme - Out to Sea @ Ren: I take whatever you send me... As I said, I have a faible for the "simplicity" of an interesting melody so your recording doesn't have to be "long". (Check Katrin's viola performance of "The Imperial March".) On the other hand I've never heard piano versions of the sheet music printed in the "Greatest Hits" book so if you chose to play one of those, it would be a great listening experience for me.
  23. Thanks for your interest! @ Bart: Sounds great! @ Kradia: I'd like to hear piano solos. Check the viola solos on my website - it would be nice to have similar recordings not by a viola but by a piano player.
  24. I'm looking for somebody who can play the piano? On my website http://www.mahawa.jw-music.net/viola/index.htm you can download viola solos of JW themes that my wife Katrin performed. I have a faible for "basic simplicities" - I mean I love JW's orchestral sound, but I find it fascinating that at the very heart of complex pieces with all those dozens of instruments is very often a gentle and "simple" melody consisting of just a few notes. That's why I like Katrin's versions of JW themes so much - they touch the essence, the "idea" of JW's music. And I would very much like to hear piano versions of JW themes. Now I can't play the piano, and my wife says she isn't good enough. My idea is to find somebody who is willing to play JW themes on piano and record this music (e.g. on MiniDisc). I would then make mp3 files of those recordings and present them on my website. (If Andreas doesn't mind? ) You could choose the themes you want to play, of course. As for sheet music, I can offer scans from the book "Greatest Hits 1969-1999". I can also provide you with the notes Katrin used for her viola performances. It would be nice if some of you out there could help me get this thing going. Please write to Markus.Hable@t-online.de Thanks. -Markus PS: These are the contents of the "Greates Hits" book Main Title from Star Wars Flying Theme from E.T.
