I personally didn't like the how the rhythm worked out in the background for Across the Stars. Bounty Hunters Pursuit though - awesome! That was one of my favorite cues from that score.

Just purchased and viewed Nixon. I enjoyed the movie a lot, although I was dissapointed not to hear all of The Turbulent Years during the intro sequence. It would have been cool if Stone had used it like they had used the prologue for JFK. Anthony Hopkins is the PERFECT Nixon, I think this may have been one of his best performances. One thing I have to say though...he made made me feel sympathetic for Nixon, and I don't feel he warrants that sympathy.

If this is all true...then the original trilogy is TRULY ruined, imho.

Source Lucas WILL release all the films in a special boxset in November this year. He will also release a Prequel boxset seperatly for those who already have the original trilogy boxset. Later C-3PO knocks the sign off the door the Wampa's are behind stating their there and when the Stormtroopers enter the base they open the door only to be attacked by the Wampa's who then can be seen escaping as the Millennium Falcon blasts off out of Hoth 6. As a brass player I can say that I learned a lot about strings, including terms I had known before but never knew their meaning (pizzicatto, con arco). Also conducting along with some of his scores that have many time changes but cover basic time signatures (Adventures on Earth) has helped me practice and become more responsive with my conducting skills...thereby helping me to do better in class. I have learned A LOT from reading and conducting his scores, I cannot even begin to list everything!

I don't have the signature edition, so it may be half. I was just going by ear. If it is half the horns, then the could explain the "trumpet adding color" effect. That way you hear both the regular horn's tone AND the brassier stopped tone.

Well at least in the beggining...I think the reason you hear trumpets playing with the horns and WWs is because the horns are using the "stopped horn" technique. Basically, the hornist stuffs his/her fist into the bell to completely cut off the flow of air leaving through the bell. It causes a muted and very brassy sound that can VERY easily be mistaken for the sound of a trumpet, especially in an ensemble setting.

I just got Escapades today...which pieces do the pieces in the suite correspond to? I admit I don't know the score for this film very well...

Hmm...THATS why I could never find it in there! That was my favorite part.

Well I guess I can be the exception to the rule. To be honest, all I've ever heard from it is the suite, never the soundtrack, and while I like the suite I don't think I would enjoy the entire score. I plan on giving it a chance someday though.

Yep, thats the suite it is. I don't personally own it, but that is only becuase I never really cared for Close Encounters.

Well I personally love Adventures on Earth. I'd go for that one.

Awesome! I can't afford full sets, though I may get the full set for his Star Spangled Banner. Its only like $95 and I think it would be a cool rendition for my future marching band. (when i graduate from college).
