  1. Somewhere in My Memory, directed by yours truly. Hope you folks enjoy it!
  2. The piano arrangements book will be released on February 9th - at much more reasonable price than downloading each piece individually! http://www.amazon.com/Hobbit----Unexpected-Journey-Piano/dp/073909159X/ref=sr_1_3?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1358516933&sr=1-3&keywords=the+hobbit+shore
  3. I wonder if the alternate opening would be featured on the U.S. blu-ray, at least as a deleted scene or something. That could be cool.
  4. Nope, he was there. He was in the background at a table as Danna walked up.
  5. Eh, John won the GG for Geisha, but lost it at the Oscars. So one never knows.
  6. All the nominees were good this year, I have no qualms! Congrats!
  7. I haven't seen or read Life of Pi, but I wouldn't call Les Mis a "feel-good" film!
  8. And it's official, Saturday night. Second Balcony Center Row B: Seats 38, 39, 40. I look forward to meeting you all!
  9. Yes, very often for choral text. Since choirs commonly sing in languages other than their own, text in foreign languages is often written phonetically to ensure proper pronunciation.
  10. And a lot of them are abridged, or come from the bonus tracks on the SE soundtrack.
  11. I'm pretty sure I'll be purchasing tickets and making the drive up for the Saturday performance - so hopefully I'll see you all there!
  12. 1. Born on the Fourth of July 2. War Horse 3. The Empire Strikes Back 4. E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial 5. Hook 6. Star Wars 7. Jaws 8. Jane Eyre 9. Schindler's List 10. Lincoln That wasn't very easy, and the 10th place spot isn't 100% certain, but that's as close as it will get for now! The top 5 were easy and without a doubt are 100% how I feel, the rest sort of fudges it. Other scores that made my short list while compiling this, just for fun: Nixon, Raiders of the Lost Ark, Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban, Home Alone, Jurassic Park, Memoirs of a Geisha, Munich, Home Alone.
  13. Recorded for the album, I assume. They're expansions on the material in most cases, concert versions basically. That whole album would hold up very well in the concert hall, really.
  14. I think those are really the best representations for those scores, especially E.T. - he really nailed it with that album. Not that I don't love the complete scores, but the albums are really something special.
  15. I saw this in regular 2D the night of release, didn't think much of the film. Today I'll be seeing it in HFR 3D.....God help me.
  16. There's some heavily rearranged music from the destruction of Isengard there too. I'm confident that all the 'tracked' music was re-recorded. Yup! I forgot about that, but you're right about the Isengard music.
  17. Pretty sure it was, the clarinet statement of the Shire theme as Bilbo is speaking after Thorin's hug (2:04 in STB, cut short about halfway through), then a short rising string bit (2:34 of STB) after that (I think as we see the eagles fly away?) is straight out of that track.
  18. Really, to my ears, most of the reused/repurposed music isn't tracked but are in fact new arrangements and recordings. Things get iffy with the moments of "The Breaking of the Fellowship" in the middle of the film and "Samwise the Brave" at the end, those may be tracked because the edits in them don't flow very well. But most other cases of reused music seem to be new recordings. Also, after seeing the film, I feel pretty certain that "Edge of the Wild" is an alternate for the "Overhill" sequence.
  19. I think they were in the habit if restoring some cut material in the concerts, but this sounds like it would be a big job.
  20. I do wonder what all this would mean for a theoretical CR type release in the future. To be honest, even though from an artistic standpoint the music situation in the film seems to be in pretty poor shape, I'm glad that we have an album preserving Shore's original intent. I just wonder how the worthwhile unreleased music will make it to market.
  21. The Water Tower release really does seem better - but the packaging material itself still pales in comparison to the material used for the SE's of the original films.
