  1. Yeah.. that seems about right… the movie is so weirdly paced (and one of the visually ugly) that it never really stops for any theme to shine. Think about any montage in the original trilogy, or the Birth of sandman scene.
  2. The The action music (specially the climax). The themes. The unused love theme. The way that it respects the previous scores and sounds like one of them, while still sounding like Young. Elfmans themes themselves never sounded better (Goblin theme for Harry’s attack, or the main theme during “Saving MJ”). A 5 star masterpiece
  3. 1. Spider-Man 3 (Young) 2. Spider-Man 2 (Elfman) 3. Spider-Man (Elfman) 4. Far From Home (Giacchino) 5. Amazing (Horner) 6. No Way Home (Giacchino) 7. Homecoming (Giacchino) 8. Amazing 2 (Zimmer) 9. Spider-Man game 10. Into Spiderverse (urgh) (Pemberton)
  4. The brief Horner and Elfman statement are so beautifully handled, made me go back and listen to Horners Amazing Spider-Man.. and funnily enough, I don’t like the theme that much on that score. The way that it plays on track 19 here tho, with the choir is just perfect. Best moment in the score.
  5. That is disappointing. Seeing how smartly Giacchino incorporated themes from other composers before (Speed Racer, Mission Impossible, Jurassic and etc), I thought that he could be the composer to properly do really go full blown past themes.
  6. And it is not as if some of these composers doesn’t get good opportunities as well. Lorne Balfe has a marvel and an original movie with a good concept this year, Benjamin also had some interesting projects lately. I can’t imagine someone like Dan Romer being able to handle the pressure and being able to leave his confort zone. Agreed on Lennetz tho. He deserves a good assignments
  7. True. Having said that, that car race scene is top tier Spielberg.
  8. Tye Sheridan is a great young actor (watch Mud or Joe). He was badly directed in RPO - as we’re the other actors. In that film, it seemed that Spielberg was just in for the action scenes, which were great
  9. Yeah, a lot of skippable cues. Things only pick up on "Have a Nice Fight". But yeah.. the main theme is okay, but nothing special. The worst of the 3 Nami-Giacchino collaborations
  10. IMO Rogue One has great usage of previous JW themes, and also bad ones. Yes, the Force theme sounds awkward in some places, but I think the imperial themes sounds great, and the blink and you'll miss quote of Leia's theme is fantastic. The spotting of the themes usage were fantastic, even if they execution sometimes wasn't. Yes! It is a great theme, so yay! PS: Taking the opportunity to promote this great (perhaps the best) iteration of the Dr Strange theme that went unreleased
  11. Lost is a proof that Giacchino is a master in leit motif writing, themes developing and etc.. Star Trek, Speed Racer, Mission Impossible, Jurassic World, Rogue One all prove that he can integrate themes from other composers well. (The only counter example is creating a new theme for Iron Man in Spider-Man Homecoming - and a very bad one at that). His quick mention of his Medal of Honor Underground theme in Ratatouille, or the Ratatouille rats’ theme in American Pickle, or the way that he evolves the Death Star motif into the imperial March in RO makes me believe that he is the man to provide a cohesive multiverse score.
  12. No way. Sure his Oscar winning performance in Scent of Woman wasn’t great, but it is impossible to watch Irishman, Angels in America, Charlitos Way, Godfather, Insomnia (and the list goes on and on) and think that he is overrated. He was great in fricking Jack and Jill for heavens sake!
  13. Not that I know of.. I meant the cue that plays during a montage in the middle of the film.
  14. I’ve watched. It is fine music, nothing fantastic but some good bits. Doesn’t his best animation output (Incredibles, Ratatouille, Up) but also it is much better than Zootopia. On par with Coco Id say. The highlight is a montage cue in the middle of the album. The themes are pleasant enough, but not too memorable. The first cue was pretty as well but it was cut short due to a gag (that happens a lot in the movie, unfortunately). There is a musical number which is nothing special in the middle of the movie as well. And the credits lists “Themes by Mick and Michael Giacchino” and “Music by Mick Giacchino”. But like American Pickle last year, it sounds 100% like a Giacchino score. Looks like he is creating his clone army for world domination haha
  15. Powell HTTYD is obviously the winner here, but take that out of Powell and you got a bunch of 3 star scores with as many highlights as extremely annoying bits, and a bunch of those scores don't do nothing for me (Rio, Ice Age 3 and 4, Happy Feet 2...). Horner has done great on Land Before Time, Balto and my favorites An American Tail duo. But its Giacchino for me.. in the animated movies is where he shows how great of a composer he can be. Incredibles 2, Up and Inside Out are great, Ratatouille and The Incredibles are awesome. Coco is extremely underrated (a very mature score!) and I even find Cars 2 fun (leaving only Zootopia as his sole weak animated scores)., so yeah, he gets my vote for quantity and consistency.
  16. This may be Giacchino's worse score yet. Bummer.
  17. I have this extra ticket for sale as I won't be needing it anymore. https://www.ebay.com/itm/192641735409
  18. Powell and Giacchino do it sometimes (Ice Age 2 and 3, Mars Needs Moms, Doctor Strange, Spider-Man Homecoming, Star Trek), but they seem to be the only ones doing it. I kind of like Giacchino's end credit suite in Rogue One, even if it is edited. But John Williams also did that for some of his scores (Harry Potter 3, The Last Jedi)
  19. I don't think it is the entire code, but their sub-concious and memories seemed to be stored there instead of all in their brain balls. Like a cloud storage for the hosts data.
  20. It means that there are no more back-ups for the hosts. Once dead, they won't be able to reset like before. In Dolores' opinion, that's the only way to be free.
  21. Did anybody else thought that the transition from “Dice & Roll” to the end credits was awful? As someone who likes a good transition from the finale to the end credits, this was the third time in a row that the transition was very disappointing. The End Credits editing isn’t very good as well.
  22. Ok guys, I will be the one raining in the parade. I didn't hear the score in the album yet but it really took me out of the movie a couple of times! It was trying to make all actions seem epic and with high stakes when it could have been much more playful. The begging of the train sequence is a great example where the score could go lighter. It has some great moments and the new Williams theme has some good statements (tho a little overused and simplistic I'd say), but it made some sequences unbearable! Gosh, compare Williams' "Slave Children Crusade" with a similar one from this movie. The Williams one is fun, simple, and really benefits the movie, while Powell tried to do the same but inserted 928 more layers it sounded bloated. Well, I'll be the first one voting for Rogue One. It may sound rushed in some parts, but at least in the movie, nothing comes close to "Your Father Must Be Proud" from that score/ Rogue One 1 x 93 Solo
  23. Anyone watching the second season?
