Which John Williams Expanded Releases did you skip buying?
1977 replied to King Mark's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
And the digital download of the prior release is still available: https://music.apple.com/gb/album/the-cowboys-original-motion-picture-soundtrack/1444014230 -
In the end, was the Disaster Movie Soundtrack Collection a good buy for you?
1977 replied to Josh500's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
If you get the McNeely disaster compilation you're all set, as it features a generous suite covering the highlights of Inferno, and also has the themes from Poseidon and Earthquake. https://music.apple.com/gb/album/the-towering-inferno-and-other-disaster-classics/76314766 The CPPO disaster comp is also pretty good. It has a gorgeous rendition of David Shire's The Hindenburg with vocalese instead of trumpet. https://music.apple.com/gb/album/the-disasters-movie-music-album/136065334 I struggle to listen to music while doing other things, also the fact that all my audio equipment is packed up doesn't help. -
The Varese re-recording of The Black Cauldron wipes the floor with the film tracks. It's such a fantastic album.

I absolutely do. It's just that the last few years I've not really had much time/energy to listen to music, or read books, or watch films. But being a collector I still buy a lot of stuff, knowing that when it's sold out it most likely will never be available again. -

At this stage I do not have plans to sell them, but things can change. I very seldom read liner notes unless there is something specific I want to know. I wouldn't know what to do with spectrograms TBH -
At least once each (except for Midway, but I know it well from the film, having taped it off TV in the '80s).

Well if I had to pick only 3 Silvestri's to own, these would be them. Different strokes.

These are all titles I'm glad I have.

To clarify, I hardly ever listen to anything. I just buy the stuff because it's limited and it will likely never be released again. -

Well if it helps I have all Williams' scores (multiple versions) and never listen to them. But at least if you have it, you have it. Don't think it will ever be released again. -

Technically I bought it but it's still stuck overseas, along with Minority Report. You should get it. If memory serves you spent a ton on The Poseidon Adventure though, so I understand your hesitance. -
Indeed. I asked them why at a stage and they seemed puzzled by the question. "Why would you need artwork at higher than 600x600 resolution?? What for??" LOL

I kind of did the same when I started collecting Goldsmith. I only bought stuff from the time of The Wind and the Lion and onwards, but then I heard The Blue Max and that idea went out the window... You do like John Williams, right? -

How much of your film score CD collection was bought used?
1977 replied to Bayesian's topic in General Discussion
For regular releases I'd say 70%, for LEs, precious few. I've been collecting scores on CD since '88. For me the secondary market only really opened up around 20 years ago though. I don't care about having new stuff, as long as the price is commensurate with the condition, and of course with the proviso that the discs must rip perfectly. On balance I would say that nearly all my JW stuff was purchased new, save for a few of the Phillips Boston Pops albums. -
Heads up... For those that care about such things, Disney has released this for streaming and download purchase. It appears to be the remastered 2018 edition. https://music.apple.com/us/album/baby-secret-lost-legend-original-motion-picture-soundtrack/1511586029 https://play.google.com/store/music/album?id=Bmbzyywbyjzd5fuqvgzq6e5wbvm https://open.spotify.com/album/0QM4b47C38p1sLXwBxbNI6?si=FEB6uPlpQAK052uwtUgHKw Disney seems to be stepping up their download game. First Duck Tales, now this. I wonder what else they have snuck out there?

Think of all the money you have saved -
Yeah, I get it. It's a score that I love but the presentation on either score album does it no favours. I think a 30 minute whittle with some micro editing would work wonders. I feel the same about Elmer's The Black Cauldron. The Varese 30 minute re-recording is sublime, the complete score I find a chore to listen to.

The most expensive OOP score releases missing from your collection?

Is it good? I'm not too familiar with Burwell outside of Rob Roy. -

Ah yes, I forgot about Spaceballs, I'd love to add that one to my collection too. Strange that it has never heen re-issued. MGM is usually an easy in for the speciality labels. I would pick up the download (sans bonus tracks) but none of those MGM downloads are available in my country for some inexplicable reason. Why is that, if I may ask? -
I've occasionally bought something (usually due to other people's enthusiastic comments or out of fear of a sell out) and on listening wondered what I had been smoking. For example, Henry Mancini's Condorman. Am I the only one?

Lost in Space box Land of the Giants box That's it. I wouldn't mind having them but the price...
