  1. Neither did I... I always thought that was new for ROTJ. Cool.
  2. The only Williams music I consider skippable are his scores between 1994 and 1998 (even Saving Private Ryan and The Lost World) except for possibly "Stepmom," which I've been warming up to after viewing the film again and subsequent soundtrack listens.

What's the third one? The ROTJ barge music?
  4. Well, every release has had some alterations or additions. You could have said the same thing about putting Ian McDiarmid as the Emperor into The Empire Strikes Back years ago (when the poster for the Special Edition even showed the Return of the Jedi version of the character), and then Lucas just decided to slap that together while filming Revenge of the Sith with completely inconsistent makeup for DVD. It is possible this was considered but Lucas was going to wait until a prequel recording session to slap it together, but then he forgot about it while he was too busy ruining all the new music Williams was recording for his movies. True, but the 1997 Special Edition was the only one with music changes (Ewok Celebration and Jedi Rocks) where new music was written and recorded. That seemed like the best time to record some new music for the original film since they were already taking the time to record some new stuff. I wouldn't be surprised if Lucas wasn't toying with the idea back in 1997 and before. Of course, they could have also easily tracked music from the other films instead of recording new music. In any case, it's not likely Disney will alter the films further, so this music addition may only live in fan edits.
  5. All of those scores are so good that I consider them equal in greatness. I would also include Return of the Jedi and Raiders of the Lost Ark in that list.
  6. It would have happened by now if it was ever seriously considered. I'm surprised they didn't add the theme especially since they took the time to rescore the Return of the Jedi celebration. Tom said he remembered seeing a video about it. Would be nice if we could locate it.
  7. Apparently, this quote came from an interview he did for a Dutch film score magazine called Score. Anyone heard of it? Interestingly, this supposed interview seems to only include this quote. Did they only ask him one question?
  8. I can see why it was dismissed because the theme was never inserted into the original film... nor should it be.
  9. Agreed. His music is really amazing, especially when you listen to it in expanded form. "Beauty and the Beast" is my favorite animated film score. I also think he should have won for "Hunchback." You're probably right. I would have voted for you if I was old enough. I guess Williams can't win them all in the same way Meryl Streep can't.
  10. Too bad it isn't in stereo. The music supposedly got lost after the making of the this documentary (not sure if true). About 30 seconds or so of a Max Rebo song can be heard at starwars.com, but it's in mono.
  11. I gave this score another listen earlier today and it always takes my breath away no matter how times I hear it. Why didn't Williams take home the Oscar for this score? Did he have too many Oscars at that time? Was the score not well received back in 1980? Some of the contenders were very good, but ESB is arguably the best score of 1980 and quite possibly one of the greatest ever written. To create a score at least equal to the original Star Wars is quite an achievement...
  12. I bet the mouse is teaching him a lesson right now... I'm sure he can still write music with a few missing fingers.
  13. I think Giacchino should create a whole new fanfare. Frankly, I've heard Williams' main title so many times that I now cringe every time I hear it. It's time for something new and fresh.
  14. I don't think he will considering he hasn't been involved in the Harry Potter series for 10 years and the fact that he won't be involved with Jurassic World. And he didn't score the final Harry Potter film(s) even though he was seemingly willing.
  15. I guess it's safe to assume that Williams won't be involved in the Harry Potter spinoff films?
  16. I thought my post was the real prank. Of course Giacchino has been confirmed. It was confirmed that he would be apart of the new film in some way when Abrams signed on as director. Guess my Photoshop skills aren't that bad after all...
  17. It hasn't been confirmed, it was debunked at the original post states. The other members are having some fun. Here is the REAL tweet from Giacchino:
  18. This news isn't true and I'm not sure why so many people think it is.. especially considering the source. Disney/Lucasfilm has never mentioned Giacchino being a part of Episode VII. People originally assumed he was simply because Abrams was directing, but that was put to rest when Williams was confirmed last year. Even before Williams was confirmed, Giacchino said himself he wanted Williams to score the film. And Williams wasn't forced to score the film, he wanted to! He also expressed interest in future Indiana Jones films. Not sure why this random article is overriding official announcements with some people... I guess it's something to talk about until the new round of legitimate announcements.
  19. I voted for Zimmer, but I think he's mostly overused instead of being overrated.
  20. This is what Giacchino said in April 2013, before Williams was confirmed and after after Abrams was confirmed to direct: "One of the things that excites me most about 'Star Wars' coming back is chance to hear a John Williams score." "He has been a great teacher to me and good friend and I would love nothing more than to hear more of his music from that universe" and "If it were up to me I would say 'John, you must do it.'"
  21. This is how rumors and misinformation spread. If it doesn't come from Lucasfilm/Disney, then don't believe it or spread it. Yes, rumors can turn out to be true, but if it isn't announced by Lucasfilm/Disney, then it is still just a rumor. Let all the casting rumors be the example, except for the rumors about the original actors, which was obvious they were returning. The official announcement about Williams returning doesn't mention him working with Giacchino or any other composer.
