Michael Giacchino's Jurassic World (2015)
Balahkay replied to Sweetmeats's topic in General Discussion
Hmm, I have to say I'm kind of disappointed. I guess I was hoping that possibly Williams would return, but that was just wishful thinking. I'm still interested to hear what Giacchino comes up with.- 1,368 replies

Do you think they will have a 30th anniversary release for "The Little Mermaid" after the 25th anniversary? I just noticed that the release months for the 2014 sets are the same as the months the films were originally released, except for "Sleep Beauty" which was originally released in January. "The Little Mermaid" is being released on the same day the film was released, November 17. The 2015 set of releases don't seem to follow this same pattern, though.

Agreed and some of these are in a desperate need of some remastering, particularly The Little Mermaid.
-
I'm happy with it, but could it benefit from a remaster? It sounds fine to me, but I'm not expert when it comes to proper mixing, dynamics, etc. I'm not sure what was missing, if anything.

Someone else mentioned they thought it could be for a Blu-ray release, but I'm not sure if that's the case. I don't know why Williams would need to review the film and music for a Blu-ray unless if changes were possibly made. Also, E.T. was released on Blu-ray in 2012 and still in print. I highly doubt they would be releasing another Blu-ray after 2 years.

John Williams / Oregon Symphony Benefit Concert April 28, 2014
Balahkay replied to Mari's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Thanks for sharing! Sounds like it was a great concert. The closest I've been to a John Williams concert was Star Wars in Concert many years ago. Unfortunately, he hasn't visited my area. In regards to his comment about not doing another six Star Wars episodes, it has been confirmed that he's scoring Episodes 9 and 10, right? I guess that means he isn't involved in the standalone films, which doesn't surprise me. -
I was referring to the overall style of Hook as an example of the type of score I would expect. Would you rather Williams create a Zimmer type score? That would be new and different for Williams.

Looks like Spielberg wants this one to be next for a 2015 release, followed by The BFG: http://www.thewrap.com/steven-spielberg-attached-direct-bfg-tom-hanks-cold-war-thriller-will-next-exclusive/ No word on Robopocalypse or Moctezuma, but the article says they're "on the back-burner." According to Variety, "The BFG" is planned for a 2016 release. So far, Spielberg is set to direct the cold war thriller and "The BFG" with releases in the next couple of years. I'm looking forward to "The BFG" if Williams scoring it. After reading what the story is about, I can't help but think the score would be similar to "Hook."

Oh, this would be a great project for Williams, away from the Star Wars scores (that are plenty already). I see a Monsignor + Schindler's List in there.. You can never have enough Star Wars from Williams. I wonder what the release dates for these would be? If Williams is involved, I hope it doesn't interrupt Episode VII.
-
Williams is also signed on score Episode VIII and IX. Spielberg has a lot of projects as a producer, but none as a director so far. So, who knows if Williams will be involved with any of those. But it seems Williams will work on a project without Spielberg if he's truly interested such as "The Book Thief."
-
Supposedly, Spielberg is the executive producer, so Williams may be considered when it comes to selecting a composer. Then again, Spielberg served as an executive producer for Jurassic Park III and we got no score from Williams. Anyone know why Williams didn't do Jurassic Park III? Perhaps there was lack of interest or conflicting schedules. Williams did compose both HPPS and A.I. in 2001. Oh, right... I was thinking Jurassic Park III came out in 2000. Could have very well conflicted with his other projects, then.

I wonder if Williams has a secret project this year like he did last year with "The Book Thief"? That was a rather nice surprise... I thought I read that Spielberg is no longer involved with "American Sniper." Therefore, Williams probably isn't, either. That's fine with me... as long as Williams has an adequate amount of time to work on Episode VII instead of being rushed.

I thought that was done intentionally?
-
Well, I fail to hear the plagiarism in the above examples, but then again I'm not musically trained. All I know is what sounds good to my ears.

He didn't plagiarize, he made them better.

The music at Jabba's Palace is also great. I think William's captured Jabba's theme and his underground world perfectly. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SMCykm9FnnI Yes, but Williams' introduces so many new themes for Jabba, the ewoks and the Emperor. Then there is "Into a Trap." Unfortunately, a lot of music was hacked up for film, particularly for the battle of Endor. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7_dHM-1w1LY

What is everyone's opinion is regards to Williams' music in ROTJ? Does it live up to SW and ESB (or the prequels if you think those are superior scores)? Personally, I think it has some of the best musical moments in the saga, especially the music involving Luke, Vader and the Emperor towards the end of the film.

A documentary released (I believe in the UK) in 1980 called "Star Wars: Music by John Williams" features some recording session footage from the The Empire Strikes Back. The whole documentary is on YouTube. Part 2 has some nice goodies. Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AGsbKZnaT8E I know this documentary very well, but the recording of The Imperial March showcasing in the interview is not on the documentary. You're right. Would be interesting to know where that came from and how much video was taken of the recording sessions.
-
Even though it's a fake, it's still a very good fan edit and one of the best available so far... I hope that will officially change in the future.
