  1. I didn't mind it as much in The Hobbit because the sets themselves were really cool.  Great production design.  I think I had this discussion before with someone about Hook, but I actually like the heightened reality of obvious sets.  Guess it's why I enjoy classic films a lot.

I'm not saying I want every movie to be like that or anything.  But yeah, I don't enjoy CGI sets very much.

  2. I am Disco Stu, and Disco Stu is definitely not me.  Just a stupid internet alias I chose 15 years ago because I like The Simpsons.  Whenever anyone makes some reference to me being into disco music, I get confused for a second and then realize they think my name is because I love disco.

Now, I do enjoy a lot of disco music but it's not any kind of enthusiasm or whatever.

I think Lincoln will stick around in the US but almost more for the idea of it being a great movie. Nobody really loves watching it but it looks and feels like an American masterpiece and people will admire its intellect and craftsmanship impersonally and reverentially, because it's Spielberg and Day-Lewis taking on this iconic figure and in a pretty definitive way. Any future biopics about American presidents will be compared to it, US politicians will reference it in their speeches with a near-religious tone like Hillary, while most American citizens will only really remember seeing Lincoln in 8th grade history and being bored, but they'll all have seen it!

Actually Lincoln is one of my favorite movies ever made and I love watching it.  I think it's a masterpiece, not just the idea of it, but the flawless script, wonderful performances, and rich themes (and duh, my favorite Williams "Americana" score).

I put it has my #3 movie of this decade so far:

  4. It's by far the worst, most tiresome Disney trend.  I'm mostly on board with Pixar, Disney Animation, Lucasfilm, and Marvel.  But this line of remakes of their animated classics is fucking awful.

At best, the movie will be well-made but pointless (Cinderella) and at worst a boring abomination (Jungle Book).

As I understand it, that's no confirmation he'll work on the show. It's just an "application" to be the composer of the show.

I hope he doesn't get it.  Sounded generic to me.

Well that would be a fun pickle, did you guys here about the restored version of A New Hope that leaked online? Not the Unspecialized version someone payed a lot of money found a original print and restored it! They are currently working on a 4K restoration!

This seems like you misheard a real news story.

Lucasfilm has apparently, maybe a "restored"/"remastered"/whatever 4k transfer of the original film.  So it wasn't just some person.  And it hasn't leaked online, Gareth Edwards just let it slip in an interview.

  7. Very happy for you @mstrox that everything has turned out great for you and your family.

My daughter was born at 9 lbs, 7 oz. and my wife birthed her naturally with no drugs. Women are definitely tougher than we are!

Anyway, I'm having a son!  Very excited.  Pregnancy is very normal and there's definitely only one baby in there!
