  1. Thank for the quote Yavar. Will listen to the interview later. Eidelman is one of the great and most underappreciated composers working right now. I wish he could get a new film or TV gig soon.
  2. Mississippi Burning is great, and super powerful too. I really couldn't recommend it enough.
  3. Comrade Detective - Kraemer Body Heat - Barry The Fly - Shore The Fly II - Young
  4. It's a real great emotional human drama at its core, and there are also fantastic scenes set in a space shuttle that were straight-up thrilling to watch. It's probably my favorite movie of the year. It's just an example of everything firing on so many cylinders, and Gosling's performance is terrific. As soon as I got out of the theater, I knew I wanted to see First Man a second time, which is much rarer these days. I was beyond super impressed.
  5. Saw First Man on Saturday. Thought it was fantastic. My review. https://dailyuv.com/968792
  6. Saw the latest A Star is Born remake on Thursday. I was quite impressed with it. My review. https://dailyuv.com/968328
  7. Saw The Wife this weekend. Quite enjoyed it. It's a solid drama with some great performances. My review. https://dailyuv.com/feed/967789?location=norwich-vt
  8. Saw The Nun last Thursday. Thought it was very mediocre. My review. https://dailyuv.com/feed/967326?location=norwich-vt
  9. The Favorite - Yorgos Lanthimos latest is sort of like a big royal baroque mess. The cinematography is top-notch, and you can tell the lead actresses (Coleman, Weisz, and Stone), are having a "ball" in their respected roll. It's also really hilarious, witty, and feels like a change of pace for Lanthimos, being much more accessible then his last few films. Super impressed. - 8.5 / 10
  10. Can You Ever Forgive Me - Saw this at the tiff screenings at Dartmouth. Great. It's awesome to see Melissa McCarthy in a different role then usual, and she's very good, but Richard E. Grant was especially outstanding as the best friend. I didn't even know much about who Lee Israel was beforehand, and I still found the art forgery story very interesting. - 8
  11. Cinema Paradiso - Such a beautiful film, and a wonderful tribute to film as a whole. I still cry everytime I watch this. - 9.5 / 10
  12. Sadly I knew this was coming, he had been looking sickly for a while now. Hooper is a great Hollywood send-off, and the original The Longest Run rules. RIP!!! Sadly, apparently no. He died before he could film his part. Could have been a great final film too.
  13. Saw BlacKKklansman over the weekend, and I thought it was very good. My review. https://dailyuv.com/feed/966650?location=norwich-vt
  14. The Adventures of Robin Hood - About as good as classic Hollywood cinema gets. Still one of the best swashbucklers ever. - 10 / 10
  15. Yep. The main theme is obviously patterned after The Great Escape, wonderfully so. Still one of my favorite Powell and for that matter Gregson Williams scores, so much fun. The track Building The Crate used to get a ridiculous amount of play out of me.
  16. My review of Crazy Rich Asians. https://dailyuv.com/feed/966181
  17. A pretty catchy song now I've listened to it apart from the film. Lyrics are nonsense of course, but the main beat and hook is nice. Not a huge fan of modern popular hip-hop music, but this is good.
  18. Lol, never noticed that, but I can see the similarity. The dinosaurs are now invading Singapore. Who could have seen that coming? Also I really like the sneaky crime jazz that's heard throughout the score the most, particularly this bit. Makes me think there's a robbery / break-in, in process.
  19. Crazy Rich Asians - Very nice romantic comedy. Starts out well, though it does devolve into melodrama and cliches typical of the genre by the end, though the writing and cast helps it work. Constance Wu is very charming, though I still can't stand Awkwafina, and found her very irritating and not very funny. Pleasant stuff. - 7 / 10
  20. Love Simon - Really enjoyed this. Couldn't relate to the main characters sexuality problem, but I did like him and his arc. Good stuff. - 7.5 / 10
  21. Crazy Rich Asians - Tyler - This is really solid. A good "big love theme", mixed with some decent old style big band jazz, and some oriental stylings. I'm not a huge fan of Brian Tyler, I find his loud blockbuster / action scores to be very samesy, and anonymous outside of his main themes, but whenever he does a smaller non action film, where he's not required to use an RC-ish / modern style of music, the results can be pretty good and enjoyable. This score is no exception. A nice surprise in an already decent score summer.
  22. I think it was my mom who introduced me to her, and I became a fan instantly. Huge loss! She had such a great voice, even up until her death, and a huge back catalog of hits spawning decades. They didn't call her the queen of soul for nothing, after all.
  23. I have, I saw it for the first time a few months ago. It's a great small film about cooking and food. Also after watching it, it made me hungry, and that's probably the highest compliment I can give a film of its kind.
  24. Ooh, sounds good. I'll give it a listen later, but so far it seems promising, having John Takis on is great, big fan of his liner notes. Also I haven't listened to it in years but I remember Nightmare As A Child having a real freaky sounding 60's score. Looking forward to The Invaders discussion, though obviously that won't be till the end of the year, but I can wait. The other episodes sound just as good / interesting, especially you guys starting the discussion on his work on Thriller.
