  1. TLJ is already the end of the ‘Skywalker Saga’ as such. Unless Rey turns out to be a Skywalker after all. (I wouldn’t complain.) Daisy Ridley doesn’t expect to do any more Star Wars movies after 9, for whatever that’s worth.
  2. Rotten Tomatoes audience rankings 97% The Empire Strikes Back 96% Star Wars 95% 94% Return of the Jedi 93% The Mandalorian, Season 1 92% 91% 90% 89% 88% 87% 86% The Force Awakens; Rogue One; The Rise of Skywalker 85% 84% 83% 82% 81% 80% 79% 78% 77% 76% 75% 74% 73% 72% 71% 70% 69% 68% 67% 66% Revenge of the Sith 65% 64% 63% Solo 62% 61% 60% 59% The Phantom Menace 58% 57% 56% Attack of the Clones 55% 54% 53% 52% 51% The Battle for Endor 50% 49% 48% 47% 46% 45% 44% The Ewok Adventure 43% The Last Jedi 42% 41% 40% 39% 38% 37% 36% 35% 34% 33% 32% 31% 30% 29% 28% 27% 26% 25% 24% 23% 22% 21% 20% 19% The Holiday Special
  3. It’s obviously trying to be Game of Thrones. But unfortunately it comes off more like “Lothar of the Hill People.”
  4. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07BRFRXQ7 Coming April 6. It will include the new recording of the TOS closing theme, played by a 74-piece orchestra (unlike Courage’s original 29-piece ensemble).
  5. Ah, I see. Well, that’s kind of the point, isn’t it? Old Hollywood, grand and uncynical? I dunno, I find it satisfying and congruous with the rest of the Trilogy. Victory Celebration sounds distinctly dated to the 90s. Peruvian pan flutes?
  6. Dudes, no love for the Yub Nub? The righteous bass line?
  7. Ah well maybe I’ll get some of them. RotJ, probably, to see what a “real” Lapti Nek and Ewok Celebration+Finale sound like. I wonder if SW will have the Main Title segue into the Finale (?) as on the OST (?).
  8. What do people think about classifying the “New Han and Leia” concert piece under TFA rather than ESB? Of course it is a quote of the ESB theme, but, isn’t its added melancholy due to the contemporary sad events portrayed in TFA? I imagine it as Leia contemplating their relationship at the time of their bittersweet reunion in TFA, or after Han’s death.
  9. I listen to the Lockhart the most. It’s eighteen minutes of pure delight. I must admit, to my untrained ear the OST a bit of a slog, outside the material present in the suite. And of course the suite develops my favorite material, in eminently listenable form. I’ll probably listen to a fuller recording in some form or other (leaning towards the FYC) from time to time, but the Lockhart recording definitely the most. It scratches the itch just fine. It also strikes me as perhaps more youthful and adventuresome than Williams’ recording, but, I’m shooting from the hip here and will have to listen to back-to-back comparisons sometime.
  10. Wouldn’t it be The Jedi Steps from TFA? When I hear that melody played first by the cello and then repeated an octave higher by the silver flute I think Luke and Rey (Rey being a female clone of Luke both in-story and dramatically—in TFA, of course, not in TLJ). Compare the parallel harmony at the beginning of “Luke and Leia”.
  11. Thanks for the quick and thorough info, Jay. Are there any spreadsheets or similarly thorough analysis covering this sort of thing? I’ve been searching for days and have had embarrassingly little luck.
  12. Quick question — which are the concert suites? Am I right that it’s… STAR WARS The Little People Work Princess Leia's Theme EMPIRE The Imperial March Han Solo and the Princess Yoda's Theme JEDI Luke and Leia Parade of the Ewoks The Forest Battle
  13. I was going to say TPM is the most memorable SW score outside the OT… but… I am reminded that TPM would have been much better with OT music:
  14. I like “The Resistance” (track 14 on the TFA FYC), especially the bit towards the end, which I believe is Poe’s theme and probably not part of the Resistance motif proper. Still, it wouldn’t be in my top ten. Of the Sequel music, only “The Jedi Steps” (or some version of “Ahch-To Island”?) would potentially qualify, for me, or maybe Rey’s theme, but I’d have to make sure it isn’t bumping out any beloved OT material. Similarly, of the Prequel music, Anakin’s theme and “Across the Stars” stand out, but not sure they’d bump out anything from the OT. Let’s see. 1. Luke 2. Leia 3. Luke & Leia 4. The Force 5. Han & Leia 6. Cantina Band #1 7. TIE Fighter Attack 8. The Asteroid Field 9. The Emperor 10. Inner City Tough one! Sorry, “Imperial March,” you were overused.
  15. On some level, I am fine with just listening to a published album and enjoying it as an experience in its own right (hence retaining the placement of the concert pieces, for example). On the other hand, I know fans do excellent work, and if I can enjoy more of the score in better quality, that would be nice!
  16. Thanks, Bespin. That’s the exact sort of methodology I had in mind. Can you explain your placement of Destruction of Alderaan? Wouldn’t it be 1-08e? Or is the issue that “Blasting Off” is out of sequence? Smeltington, is there anything really significant I am missing, like a track here and a track there that I can lift from the SE sets?
  17. Greetings! First post. I apologize for such a newbieish question, but, I searched for a similar topic and nothing really came up. I acquired the set named in the thread title, and have been listening to it in my car. My question is, do you listen to the three main discs as-is? Or do you mix in (or even replace with) the tracks from the “previously unreleased” disc? And if so, can you post your list? Are the tracks on the main discs more or less presented in film order (concert pieces aside)? Any existing analysis that you could point me to would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
