A pity they didn't commission a new Christmas carol by JW for the cover CD - or at least a new arrangement of Star of Bethlehem or Ring the Hogwarts Bell. ;-)

Oh well, The Shepperds' Farewell by Berlioz will have to do for now.

An option for some people might be to check if their local library has a magazine service.  I just checked and I was able to subscribe to this magazine from my local library.
Newsagents here in Australia import a lot of British magazines so I will be on the lookout for the printed version too!

Purely by coincidence, the episode of "The Baton A John Williams Musical Journey" that I released yesterday discussed the score to War of the Worlds. This just happened to be the next film in my chronological survey of JW's film scores, and I knew nothing of this announcement of the expanded CD release.

If you have not heard this episode, you can listen to it below. The episode features some music not heard in the original release, so you can hear stuff that you will be getting in this new release.

Probably a good time to re-post this very generous scoring featurette on the film:

Williams discusses several things of note here, including the low male chorus and the high-pitched female 'scream' in the Intersection Scene (that I think was absent from the OST version of that cue, but is included on the Intrada version).

Here's how I've done it: get the Blu-ray file of the concert, and use MakeMKV to convert it to an MKV file - but only export the 24/96 stereo audio track (this is the only one you will need). Open this MKV in VLC and use the convert/stream function to convert the MKV file (containing the video and 24/96 stereo audio track) into a WAV audio file (my one was about 3GB in total). From there, split and separate the tracks as you please, and convert it to your preferred format (Apple Lossless for me).

Truly wonderful. Really well-done, well-produced performance too, given the limitations of this format.

Especially cool to see the maestro in his personal studio, with all those personal effects & books.

"Hi! I'm John Williams" is the cutest thing I've ever heard.
