I heard hints of the prequels’ funeral theme in this episode.

Obi-Wan Theme debuts at Star Wars Celebration, conducted by John Williams
rpvee replied to Jay's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
I was there in that room and definitely cried. I’ve seen the maestro live many times mere feet away, but being caught off guard with a sudden performance by him, and with the debut of a major new theme no less, was quite something. When I last saw him in Pittsburgh last month, I thought DC next month would be the next performance of his I’d be at. Just wow. -
Unexpected random encounters with the music of John Williams
rpvee replied to Fabulin's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
I’m in CA for Star Wars Celebration, and took a trip to Laguna Beach. Was walking along an ocean-side path and came across a string quartet practicing the Jurassic Park Theme for a wedding. Williams music on one side, beautiful scenery and ocean waves on the other! IMG_8020.MOV -
Amazing to hear this in full quality! There’s some background noise that makes me think this was indeed taken from one of the Boston concerts vs. a dedicated recording session. If that’s the case, I’m even more excited for this release since it’ll be the first time a Williams concert I attended gets an official release!

Another great concert! Williams was missed during the first half, though learning he was above in a box seat before Across the Stars was cool, and turning to see him listening to his own theme as a fellow audience member was surreal. Anne-Sophie also made note that she recalled the theme being from Episode II: Attack of the Clones - my influence? lol Second half with the maestro himself was spectacular as always. He again ended with The Imperial March, which makes me wonder why he didn’t do it in Philly. Amazing evening!

Nope, that guy was two seats over from me. I definitely wanna try to get a fist bump myself, though! Also, how about that prick trying to get his violin signed during the standing ovation? Walked right up to the front of the stage and called out “Williams!” before security took him away and maybe even kicked him out. Williams did a polite and subtle “no”. Cringe.

Amazing first half! He started to do his usual speech about not remembering which of the nine Star Wars films Across the Stars is from, but I held up two fingers right in front of him and he gleefully reacted and announced that it was from the second film “with Natalie Portman”. What a neat moment! Gonna remember that forever.

A handful of rather close seats just opened up. I was able to upgrade to front and center, which blew my mind. Had to call the box office to see if I could convert my current tickets to the new ones (since they’re the same price), but was told I had to buy the new tickets and then go through a refund process for the old ones, which involved emailing Carnegie a picture of them torn in half. A bit convoluted, but well worth it!

Apologies if this has been clarified already or if we still don’t know, but any idea if the film pieces from Boston’s Symphony Hall will be from the live performances with the audience, or if they were recorded during a proper recording session around the same time? And either way, it’s same to assume the eventual video of those themes would be from the actual concerts, right?

John Williams – The Tanglewood 90th Birthday Celebration (8/20/22)
rpvee replied to Andrej's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
Thanks for the heads up about this, grabbed a ticket last night. Section 8 of the shed. Already hardly anything left in there. Also, Williams still isn’t listed as a confirmed guest. -
Absolutely fantastic news, and there’s something quite nice about the fact that TROS will no longer be Williams’ final Star Wars project. This series will be the closest we might ever get to an extension of the nine-episode saga, and specifically Lucas’ original six. Williams coming up with the main theme for it raises my hype level and expectations even more, when I thought they couldn’t possibly be higher just from the subject and characters alone.
