  1. When is the April streaming date? Perhaps they are “officially” sold out so that fence sitters and procrastinators will be more inclined to purchase it digitally. I mean, it’s almost April already, and a “sell out” could boost digital sales. Then months later they can find more inventory after the demand for the physical cd has time to skyrocket. It’s what I would do if sales slowed to a trickle.
  2. I love it. It’s daring to be different than the first score. I think the (admittedly hokey) Native American motifs are lovely, and the action music with choir is pretty thrilling. Some powerful writing for trombone in the climax.
  3. Wowww! Outstanding and thank you for sharing the finished work but your process also. Bravo!
  4. @Steffromuk That Star Wars Anthology cover is masterful! I've seen that Tom Jung art as a b&w sketch. Did you color it, or did you find a color source? I love it.
  5. Thanks, Thor. I was eyeing those director compilations as well. Although I have yet to check how much of those are duplicated on the box set.
  6. I wonder if this is a good entry level purchase? Philippe Sarde Box Set
  7. @Thor @filmmusic I wouldn’t mind exploring Sarde, beyond his American films (Ghost Story, Tess, Quest for Fire, Manhattan Project) but it’s hard to navigate when he’s so prolific and I don’t speak French, nor do I know the films.
  8. He can’t stay down with three barrels on him. Not with three he can’t.
  9. I guess an artistic choice for the publisher and editor to show what went into the article, rather than just show another Williams photo. It’s not too uncommon to see that sort of thing in print mags.
  10. Yes precisely. I made a conscious effort to check my baggage at the door this time. I don’t think I’ve ever been hip, but sometimes a little time and distance allows the dust to settle so one can appreciate a piece without cynicism.
  11. So I want to pledge, but what’s the point? Doesn’t look like it’ll make it. I won’t lose my money. But if it somehow makes its goal and something “weird” happens, then I could actually lose my money? It’s the out of comparable project goal amount that makes me uneasy. Someone convince me, because I’d really like these, but my gut feels off.
  12. No. The photos and article are identical. The last page of the magazine has a nice photo of Goldie Hawn presenting Johnny with his Oscar. and the contents page has a behind the scenes pic. But Variety is a weird magazine. There are more pages of ads congratulating Lenny Kravitz for his Star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame than there are for JW.
  13. No, you were right. Honestly, it’s the Vejur ostinato that doesn’t thrill me. I truly wish I were wired to appreciate the Cloud and Vejur Flyover more. Maybe that’s it. Maybe I need to just study them. They aren’t completely featureless. I do like some of the chaotic woodwinds and percussion on top of the lower registers in the final minute of Vejur Flyover. It’s very Poltergeist. I consider the Thunder Road theme from Explorers to be cut from that same heroic nobility cloth as well.
  14. “I can’t imagine why…” you waited this long to pick this up!
  15. That’s not at all surprising to me. I know for many people, that’s the appeal. I think it’s totally cool too, how different people feel very passionately about the contrasting qualities of the score. Nothing but respect from me.
  16. TMP has higher highs maybe than anything else, but (controversial opinion) there are Vejur cues that begin to weigh the score down until the Spock Walk ignites it again. So, start to finish, for me, it’s not TMP all day, every day.
  17. So it’s been a few decades… …And if you remove some of the context, or baggage if you prefer, this is a fucking beautiful masterpiece all its own. I’ve not seen the film nor listened to the score in ages. But I gave the film presentation of the 4CD set a listen. At first, I wasn’t feeling it with the synth and the contemporary sound of the Gaelic stuff for the port sequences. So I told myself to forget about Enya, and listen as though she never existed. But then the score shifts into Rose territory, and I told myself to forget about the Celine Dion song which eclipsed everything during the original Titanic mania. Then, with the action pieces, I felt more comfortable in familiar Horner territory. And then… It was An Ocean of Memories which crystallized everything. Goodness, that was beautiful. And it gave the Port Themes a proper orchestral presence. And that’s when the synth choices earlier in the score made sense to me. The flashback… it’s not real. It’s the past. The score’s synthetic nature is consistent with the digital technology necessary to recreate the Titanic in her glory. What’s real is the memory. And the authenticity of orchestration with “real” instruments is, like the memory, eternal and more lasting, more tangible than the digital recreation. An Ocean of Memories is SO… EARNED. I teared up. I loved this listening with fresh perspective, and I can’t wait to dive into the bonus material.
  18. You don’t want to scroll past another person saying Star Trek TMP, so … Explorers is probably my favorite, start to finish. Breezy, wistful, soulful, quirky, brave, silly, sentimental. So much heart in the music for Explorers. I just adore it.
  19. Ask yourself, Disney. Why do you give the Legend Award? Is it for his glory, or for yours?
  20. I’m there Friday and would be happy to meet up.
  21. Now that’s how you do a trailer. Looks like it’s exclusively on theaters.
