  1. Yeah, Goldsmith came back after four movies for Star Trek V: The Final Frontier.
  2. He looks like Igon with a Proton Pack from Ghostbusters.
  3. Wow! There was an LP release of TPM? Must find. Must find.
  4. "If the Nazis take over Austria, I have no doubt, Herr Zeller, that you will be the entire trumpet section." Classic.
  5. I only have Temple of Doom. Still haven't opened it yet.
  6. This is frightening. I just bought the Star Trek: The Motion Picture DVD last week and thought it was fabulous, but the director's old age and mortality was heavy in my mind while watching. I must also commend him as editor of Citizen Kane, one of my favourite films. I also got a kick out of his cameo in John Landis' The Stupids.
  7. Forget the Oscars. We should have the JWfan Awards, where the award goes to John Williams everytime.
  8. Attack of the Clones - Fine Score. Horrible sound quality. That hiss is so distracting.
  9. Behold... The Zimmer Factory... :nopity: :nopity: :nopity: :nopity: :nopity: :nopity: :nopity: :nopity: :nopity: :nopity: :nopity: :nopity: :nopity: :nopity: :nopity: :nopity: :nopity: :nopity:
  10. If Patrick Doyle churns out something really good, they'll probably dislike it even more. "I WONTED KLAUS BADELT!11!!!!"
  11. I don't really listen to classical, so most of Horner's rip-offs from that genre are over my head. His film score rip-offs are bleeding obvious to me, but he sometimes makes them enjoyable.
  12. They should get Johnny to re-score 2001: A Space Odyssey. That way, I might not fall asleep.
  13. For some reason, I'm not keen on someone else mucking around with Williams' material. Go and write your own stuff!
  14. You will believe a square-chinned pretty-boy can fly.

  16. The 21st Century has a few good movies but no great movies yet. People shouldn't jump the gun by stating "OMG! DIS MOVIE IS GR8!" A film needs time (usually years, maybe decades) for audiences to make up their minds about it. There are so many movies coming out now that I'm not really interested in seeing. All my mates reckon I'm turning into a film snob because I just don't want to waste my money on the crap they watch, but at least I'm saving my money... you know, for better stuff like Star Trek movies.
  17. The finale of The Final Conflict is almost unbeatable with its grandeur. Damn fine music.
  18. I imagine this thread will gain verrrrrry positive posts, but I'm in Horner-mode at the moment and thought a thread like this would be appropriate. Star Trek II - The Wrath of Khan ***** - My favourte Horner score. 'Nuff said. Willow *** - A very pretty score, but I really have to be awake to enjoy it. Rocketeer, The ***** - A true spectacle. Never a dull moment. I wish he'd do more like this. Some of the action underscoring reminds me of Jerry Goldsmith's King Solomon's Mines, but I don't care, it's fantastic. Legends of the Fall *** - Not bad, but overrated. Bit disappointing. Braveheart **** - Emotionally charged and the celtic stuff is good, but in this score only. Otherwise, he goes overboard with this sort of thing in other scores. Titanic ** - Some nice themes, but it's overall unlistenable. Horner could have got an Oscar for any other of his great works, but this?! Gah. Nice cover though. Back to Titanic ** - More of the same, only worse. Beautiful Mind, A *** - The Bicentennial Man references must have gone over my head, but it's an easy listen. Troy **** - I love the fanfares. Given the limited time Horner had, it ain't bad aside from those annoying ethnic wailing cues that have become a modern Hollywood cliche thanks to Gladiator. I'll have to track down more by this Britten fellow.
  19. The score to First Blood goes against the genre. It's much more emotional and filled with effective suspense cues that the blindfolded would never guess comes from a so-called "idiot-action" flick. Rambo: First Blood Part II is the weaker score because it lacks the original's heart, but on its own, it's highly enjoyable on album. From the first track, you know you're in for something unusual but exciting and thrilling from those weird macho synthy pulses.
  20. How is it dated? What's so distinctive about Raiders from 1981? :?
