Question rephrased for a clearer view: Don't these soundtrack editors sometimes use different cues to make one cue? Although I think "cue" is the appropriate word, it might be more context- related then the word "track". ---------------- Alex Cremers

I never even pushed the commentary button. Spielberg is right to dislike the whole commentary idea. The more you know, the less magic there is. "You see that metal shiny expensive looking massive wall our main character is trying to push aside. Haha, that's just aluminum foil, man. Remember, we didn't have a budget for this scene so we...blah, blah, blah... " I would only listen or hit the commentary button with a movie that I just couldn't give sh*t about. And why do I wanna do that for. I hope and pray that Raiders of the Lost Arc will be one day released in the Superbits series. 'Cause I definitely only need the first one. At first I couldn't understand the phenomenon that is Shawn Murphy. I didn't agree with his mixing style at all. But he changed the Williams sound when probably change was needed. Most of his recordings sound more "wet" attempting to make them sound bigger to appeal the movie-going masses. And yet , sometimes Shawn rules them all. Some of his recordings are really top notch. Maybe Shawn isn't always mixing in same studios with same monitors. Perhaps there lies the reason why his sometimes high standards aren't always reached. But when Shawn is in fine shape his stuff truly amazes me. ---------------- Alex Cremers-who just dug up an old thread.

Well, playful has won over seriousness. Dreamworks is a clear winner here. However this was expected since the tune for Dreamworks is so "him"(Williams). The Ladd company logo tune could easily been something that Alex North had written. ---------------- Alex Cremers

The good news is that here he's not recycling. Not that he does it alot but lately I had my doubts. IMO, the first listen was a pretty boring run but underneath the surface there is beauty to discover. For me John doesn't need a sonic techno touch in his music. But I wouldn't mind if he explored some new orchestral styles like he did in The Mecha World, which for me, is easely one of his best efforts in years. Really, I'm not waiting for another epical Patriotesque score (I hope he's not doing Alexander The Great) which are so typical Williams. I think Williams is talented and rich enough for trying something new and still sound like Williams. But that's a whole other issue. ---------------- Alex Cremers
