  1. Well I thought the same as you Maglorfin, that i would never meet him, living in Britain. But last year on my travels across america, my arrival in LA coincided with his concert at USC and i managed to get tickets (they were surprisingly cheap, but i guess i got in there early). Out of sheer hope i took three cd's with me - Jaws, Close Encounters and Star Wars, and prayed that we might be able to meet him afterwards. We saw a small crowd gathered around a trailer behind the auditorium and stuck around. He appeared and posed for photos with the orchestra, and then began signing autographs. No one spoke to him, so when i got to i said something pathetic about travelling all the way from england. Still, it was possibly the greatest moments of my life. I'd love to meet him again, but i still wouldn't know what to say. And i think it wouldn't compare to that first meeting.
  2. After the first four hours of this season i was amazingly annoyed by the sloppyness of the writing, the plot twisted so expectantly that it seemed like an average show. How many times have they negotiated with terrorists in this season? Kinda going against US policy. Even if hundreds of attacks were occuring, i sincerely doubt that any president would be so complicant with such a strategy. Wayne is a crap president. And it follows every 24 season previous that whatever is happening in the first few episodes is something insignificant and we'll get the "big picture" by episode 12 or so. And then they go and shock me with one of the best plot twists ever. Apart from the fact that they've failed to mention Jack's family before, it was really cool to see that puppet master (who's no doubt working for someone bigger). And cool to see Jack's lack of brotherly love for him. Very impressed by the turn around. Hope it continues in the next few episodes. Still the best show on tv
  3. Well, i just got back from seeing the film, and i liked it very much. It's the best in a long time. Pretty much like the book after the first 3rd, mostly just different settings (and changing the game of baccarat to poker was only natural considering how popular it is now). The music is dissapointing in places, but there's a couple of cues that scream John Barry rather than Arnold, which i loved. And what's with the titles of cues spoiling the film? Sure, i knew what was going to happen in a vague sense cos i've read the book, but some people will buy the soundtrack knowing little of the plot and see the title of track 23 and have the film ruined before they see the film. At least with the Star Wars prequels anyone without their head in the sand will expect Anakin's Betrayal. But for this, lets's use a little common sense. Back to the film, it really is Bond Begins, a real back to basics (with a couple of stupid little gadgets and plenty of product placement), and an excellent new Bond in Daniel Craig.
  4. I got the 2 disc Schindler's List the other day (cos it was only £6.99). Such a powerful film and score, but where was the special features? The interviews and documentary on the Shoah Foundation are inspired, but i would have loved to hear something bout how they made the film. That's just my opinion, don't let me disuade you from buying it, just know what to expect from it. (It's probably worth it just for the film i suppose)
  5. I can't comment on the sound or picture quality as i haven't watched the first disc yet, but i watched the documentary, and was severly disappointed. Not much had changed, especially from the vhs version from 5 years ago (which had an hour of documentary), except a couple of little stories and extended bits of the edited stories. Nothing substantial. And the running time - it was 1 hour 48 minutes, not 2 hours. People may say that 12 minutes ain't but when you're a big jaws fan it is. The on the set featurette is nice, but not quite enough. Not really worth buying if u already own the 25th anniversary edition, but what can i say, i'm a sucker for anything Jaws related. I almost bought the Limited Edition but it was a whopping £33. Thats a little too expensive for a commenrative booklet, some lobby cards, a soundtrack highlights CD (i already have the soundtrack, obviously), and a poster (which i already have, twice).
  6. I'm desperately waiting for the release here, but i'm pissed off bout forking out another £20 on just a new documentary. And what's the deal with me being banned from posting here?
  7. I saw Dean Stockwell last month at a convention in Milton Keynes, UK. I asked him if Quantum Leap was making a return because i had seen the same details on IMDB.com, but he said he didn't know. Later, in a talk, he said that loads have people had asked about it and said that "Executives" were talking...but that's all these people do - talk. He said he would love to do it again and one of the reasons it hadn't been done earlier was that Scott Bakula had commitments to Enterprise, but now that's been cancelled Mr Stockwell can't see any reason not to do it. Personally i loved Quantum Leap, but was disappointed with the ending, where it said that Sam just "never got home." So maybe this new Quantum Leap project (if it ever happens) :? will have a happier or more thought out ending
  8. Mr. Holland's Opus was a sad one for me, at the end when Richard Dreyfuss breaks down and cries. He deserved an Oscar for that. Road to Perdition - The ending and Tom Hanks dying again in Saving Private Ryan and again, this is pathetic, even though he didn't die there were several points in The Terminal where i was tearing up. That's terribly embarassing. The Mission - Where De niro cries half way through Catch Me if You Can - That wonderful scene by Chris Walken For all the films i just mentioned, i wasn't crying like Gwynyth Paltrow or Halle Berry, but just had a lump in the back of my throat or shed one tear. Except Mr. Holland's Opus, that one i cried like a baby.
  9. Is this the biggest joke in the world or what? And on a Horner website, i'd like to quote one of these so called experts: "First, I like John Williams music, but I do not like every score he has done. To this day, Jurassic Park is my favorite score by that man. Other than that, everything else he writes (with the exception of his themes) is usually a fragment of his previous scores. And this is fine, it's what he does, and it's his style." Now, i don't know whether this guy's refering to the number of sequels that JW does (which is not just a coincidence of circumstance, but a result of such wonderful films and scores spawning sequels and prequels) or he's not heard the full range of JW's scores (could The Sugarland Express sound any more different than Jaws, and they're only a year apart, or Jurassic Park from The Terminal?) But if we looked at Horner's work, and i'm sure this has come up before, but the first cue used in Aliens is the exact same cue used in Patriot Games and Clear and Present Danger. Some Williams scores may sound styistically similar, but not identical. And before any Horner fans get on my back about this, saying i hate Horner i'd like to point out that i loved the Braveheart soundtrack, as well as Deep Impact and Clear and Present Danger. I used to hate Horner but when i heard these i had to realise that he was good. But Horner is only good at emotional themes, and they're all very similar. But what do i know, i'm just a film fan and it doesn't really matter anyway.
  10. It's a confusing film. Both in storyline and quality. I still cant decide whether it was a good or bad film (but i know i loved the car chase sequence - the bullet-time ending was fantastic, and Link's reaction is what we were all thinking) Link was a great character, but what exactly happened to Tank. I know that the actor who played him had a dispute with Larry and Andy over pay or something, but how did they explain his disappearance? The Architect was confusing as hell, but i did get that they destroyed Zion six times and created the Matrix six times (i think), and that Neo had to choose 20 or so people to restart Zion or something like that. I'll have to watch it again cos i didn't see the preview of Revolutions, and the action was too good to see just once. Proudraj - who wants to congratulate us brits, we managed to fill the whole screen for once (it seems that Americans queue up for days and always fill the cinema)
  11. i've not seen the film yet (my excuse is that it's only released today in Britain, but i am watchin it this evening, i've just got to do an exam now) but i think that Davis did a great job for the first (especially the ending) and the techno score fit perfectly into THAT film.
  12. Where did u get those addresses from? Raj- who's tempted to try his luck
