The only idiotic part is that it's true -- every male in that movie is an idiot. Lemme guess, that makes it relevant and relatable?

Different doesn't have to be stupid.

I don't care about any goddamned novels or cartoons, if I need those to better appreciate the story being told, the story isn't being told well!

TLJ was even a more glorified Rebellion 2.0 vs Empire 2.0. The New Republic plothole was ignored instead of fixed.
And we are made to believe that 2000 people are a menace for the First Order instead of the rest of the Galaxy who didnt even appear apart from Casino City. Sure its because of the TFA plotholes that made our heroes easily destroy starkiller base...the lifework of the First Order... our Deathstar 3.0 where Captain Phasma on gunpoint deactivated the whole Starkiller Base SHIELD just to save her life... she alone could and would do that... ridiculous

People like you are the reason Hollywood got lazy and stopped caring to write scripts without a myriad of plotholes. For people like you the superficial entertainment is enough, films dont have to make sense even within their own franchise.
Its a sad time for cinema....

How does that make any sense? Bloodlines is a sad try by the Lucasfilm Story Group to somehow try to damage control this trainwreck of a story and find any explanation at all for the stupid starkiller shot onto the New Republic Starsystem.
    It still makes zero sense.

No sane people would station their whole fleet only in one system when there are 1000s of worlds in the galaxy!!!
No government could work and function for 1000s of worlds when all military and governmental power is concentrated on only 3 planets. (its such a joke plotwise in TFA)
This cant ever be explained at all because it doesnt make any sense. If you have any clue about politics and how the world works you realize that, no matter how many books by Lucasfilm try to fix that....

I mean WTF are you talking about? What could be more lazy and more brainless than to make films with a Rebellion 2.0 against Empire 2.0 when the Rebellion has ALREADY WON THE WAR and is in control of the galaxy as the NEW REPUBLIC.

Now how does it make any sense that the New Republic is wiped out including their fleet when one star system gets destroyed. WTF???
The galaxy has 1000s of worlds and the ruling party only has military and control over 3 planets....its like it was written by a 3 year old kindergarten kid

Then you have 2000 people called the Resistance who are a fucking joke in terms of military force and nobody ever explains why the First Order or the New Republic even care about this little splinter group. One First Order Star Destroyer has more people than the whole Resistance and we are made to believe that they are a menace for the First Order?

It all makes no fucking sense unless you follow the logic of 3 year old kids...thats why many fans are insulted

Demodex, i almost envy you that you can switch off your brain so much during watching to not see nor realize all this lazy ass shit.

TLJ and to smaller extent TFA are lazy brainless entertainment, because they make absolutely no sense plotwise within the Starwars Saga and Universe.

People like you seem to switch off their brains and dont think about backstory, the world making sense, character motivations and worldbuilding within a franchise in general.

But there are lots of people who care about these things, who dont want brainless stupid popcorn entertainment with a myriad of plot holes because the writers are lazy as ass which in turn now  leads to 2 franchise films that contradict the other 6 franchise films.
Thats how you anger a fanbase!

If only Bette Davis was alive and a young woman at 25 playing Rey. She could breathe real smoke life, nuance and powerful emotion into such a dull character. Daisy has nice abs, but lacks the screen presence to carry these movies like a real screen legend could.

Going by the events of TFA, Luke Skywalker left two clues to his whereabouts. When Luke was needed to "set things right" and come out of hiding, Lor San Tekka (a senior believer in the ideals of the Jedi Order) and R2-D2 (Luke's personal droid) would present the clues to the appropriate people/person, who would seek out Luke for help. While it's likely that Luke didn't expect the visitor to arrive with his original lightsaber, throwing it over his shoulder - and over the cliff, no less - is a ridiculous event meant to shock/anger the audience.

It's disappointing that many don't see - or don't care - what's happening to Star Wars. It's Kathleen Kennedy and Co. who have a "complex", presenting thin new characters, while destroying the cherished older ones.

I don't see the logic in angering half your customers. Don't they want them for return business?

"Spit in the face" is an idiom. Perhaps even hyperbole. But his point, which is that it was calculated to anger half the audience, was already substantiated.

They were going to include him in Episode 9 regardless ("See ya 'round, kid.") and probably asked him to stop saying that he disagreed with their writing of his character.

While having Luke throw the lightsaber over his shoulder over the cliff was probably the last thing people expected, you're right; subverting fans' expectations wasn't the sole reason. Rian Johnson was captured saying that it excites him if "half of the audience" of his movies are "really really excited about it" and the other people to come to him after watching it "literally saying it was the worst movie I've ever seen". So the other reason for Luke actions was to disgust half of the audience. A disenchanted, demoralized Luke Skywalker could have simply given the lightsaber back to Rey or lightly dropped on the ground. What happened in the film was a spit in the face at the fans.

Eh. So people care about beloved characters and are affected by art. And people don’t care for political messaging in their entertainment (cf., Roseanne, NFL). True, some TLJ-haters voice exaggerated opinions, especially over the internet, but when every other post is a tirade against these supposedly ubiquitous extremists, it’s a straw man, and it’s no less tiresome.

Look, it's inevitable that SW, and other toxically masculine franchises would be forced to conform to the new world order of social justice, and become a little bit more feminine, a bit more foreign, a bit more dainty, and a bit more limp-wristed. It's the future, so get with it.

But, to me, they bungled the execution.

You come across as the kind of guy who likes brainless popcorn entertainment and don't want to think deeper about the background , the world and the motives of the story and its characters.

Is it really ok for you if a film does not to make any sense within a franchise as long as you are entertained???

Last Jedi is hated by so many fans because it makes absolutely no sense storywise within the Starwars Saga. Its a parody.

In ROTJ, Luke threw his lightsaber in defiance of the Emperor's commands to strike down his father and completely turn to the Dark Side. In TLJ, throwing the lightsaber over his shoulder -- over a cliff, nonetheless - was played comically, to subvert fans' expectations.

No doubt Disney complained and put the squeeze on him. He decided to play nice by back-tracking some of his statements. In his more recent interviews, you can see it face that his feels betrayed and that fans deserved better.

I ask since Mark Hamill is on record telling Rian Johnson that he "fundamentally disagreed with nearly everything" he had written for his character. It's a safe bet that Luke throwing his father's original lightsaber over his shoulder - and over the cliff - in front of Rey was one thing about which Hamill disagreed.

With an all-in budget of ~$600M (including marketing and other expenses), Solo will not be profitable in theaters. Financially, it will be one of Disney's all-time greatest disappointments.

It should be for the Disney executives. Will they make leadership changes at Lucasfilm before after Episode 9 starts filming later this summer, during (as with the directors of Rogue One and Solo) after it's released in December 2019? Professional reputations and lots of money are at stake, not to mention the public's perception of Star Wars under the control of Disney.

Not a chance. Disney spent hundreds of millions on advertising/marketing. People knew Solo was coming.
