    ITS NOT HAN’S THEME.

If anything, it’s another theme for Leia, first, and a theme for her romance with Han, second. I wouldn’t be surprised if the timing of its unvailing has to do with Fisher’s death.

Ironically Williams interview with Craig L.Byrds Published in the 1997 FSM magazine-Williams called it Han's Theme. Of course in the very same issue Lukas Kendall even wrote an dissertation that Han Solo doesn't have a theme. But this new arrangement here is devoid of Leia's theme thus making it uniquely rendering  it as Han's Theme. Come to think of its its the only motif we have for Han even though it represents a love theme between Han and Leia.

  2. As I said before, I find it uncanny than he didn't use any motif from Leia's theme. I just feel that its exclusion is to focus entirely on the Solo Character and this just might be the very new theme Williams was working on for SOLO. It has to be. If it is then expect this new arrangement to appear on the SOLO ost too!

And hopefuly Williams once done with Episode 9 will decide to do anew Anthology compilation album which would likely include this version too. but time will tell.

The Chandos is great, and not just for the SCOTT... suite.

The Complete Score is also great, and played well, but don't expect much in the way of full 5.1 sound. It's more like stereo, with rear speaker bleeding. This does not, in any way, take anything away from the music. Both are brilliant entries, from England's finest.

Coastal Command is another fascinating suite I'm looking forward to since I had heard the 'U-Boat Alert' cue on another compilation cd a decade ago.

That is apparently the Chandos artistic direction. All their re-recording covers look more or less like that. But it is not the cover but the music that counts, right?

I already bought the complete score re-recording of the Scott of the Antarctica by Martin Yates and RSNO

so I thought to check out the 40 minute suite plus Coastal Command and The People's Land while I was at it. These BBC Philharmonic/Rumon Gamba re-recordings are usually pretty ace.

I recently bought both of these albums and yet to play them though.

It's marvelous! The newly-released cues are wonderful, and we're able to hear great variety and thematic development previously confined to the film. The liner notes are good, but I would love to read a more extensive write-up of the history and production of the score. In a fascinating twist-- there are moments in the score that I was previously convinced were tracked in, editorial creations-- that are NOT; and vice versa. There are nearly 15 minutes of music that were not available for this release (explained by Doug and others as possibly being the work of other writers/orchestrators, and not part of the archives in which Kamen's work was stored). For my part, this is a loss, as I think they're glorious and accompany some grand moments in the film (notably, Robin emerging in silhouette after the Celt battle with his theme performed by horns and haunting, full, high register strings; and part of the gallows scene: from the moment that Will Scarlett is tied to the explosive barrel, through the hanging of the young lad, Robin's severing of the noose, and the first flaming arrow barrel explosion). Other than that, however, I think it's fantastic. (that was long and specific. sorry!!)

It must have been a case of missing files or what they [Intrada] could gather. If they had found them then it would have been presented and the actual co-composer/orchestrators would have been duly credited for those additional cues. Just my cents here...

  6. Doug Fake has updated!

    3rd Disc is the OST.

    1/21/2018

Make sure you touch bases here Monday evening, January 22. We have a terrific 3-CD set arriving for release on Tuesday the 23rd. It’s the soundtrack to a smash-hit film from the Disney vaults, long enough to require two CDs to present, plus alternates galore as well as some special extras. The movie was scored by one of the most popular writers in the business. There was an original album (now quite rare) with highlights that featured an artistic presentation by the composer so we’ve included that as well. It’s fair to call this score a masterpiece, with rousing action, smoky melody and over-the-top razzle-dazzle… and the movie’s production and directing crew don’t get a whole lot better either!

  7. Roger Feigelson also added a new clue "gumshoe" at FSM which is American slang for 'Detective' circa 1930's. (I missed that quote before I read Bruce Marshall's comment)

So... ":That's it! The Rebels are there"  "General ! prepare your Troops for a Surface Attack!"  ;)

  8. Too many Bruce's there .LOL. I suppose I got confused by em. They talk in the same tone though. So thanks for clearing that up !

I'm still stumped on the 3rd disc. Maybe its the OST or a different alternate mixed in cues like they did in RAMBO II.

But the Broughton 'Favourite' Clue that Doug mentioned somewhere on his Facebook makes me really think he was talking about those Roger Rabbit shorts.

P.S. Here is that quote from Nov 7th.  " Taking a break from working with Bruce Broughton on one of his personal favorite scores to celebrate my friend Afrooz's birthday. As for Bruce: This puts us at more than 50 albums together!"  Interestingly he has posted pics from Disney Archives offices on the same date.

  9. Bruce Marshall (Kritzerland) on FSM is claiming that it's WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT? The film is celebrating its 30th Anniversary this year. So it could be it. Disc 3 is probably the various Roger Rabbit shorts by Broughton. Oh!! I now remember reading a clue that Doug Fake dropped about working on a favorite Broughton subject a while back. So this mammoth set could be....
