scissorhands 16
The Daugherty, the Rorem and especially the Rouse are great works too. A must buy!

scissorhands 16
No movies, they're concert works.Rouse's Friandises was premiered in the Juilliard anniversary, in the same concert in which Williams conducted some other works.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
No movies, they're concert works.Urgh...Still that does not automatically mean that they are bad, I suppose....
scissorhands 16
Actually, it means they're better. Daugherty is the most accessible thing for a film music fan.

Ray Barnsbury 8
Cool news! Is "Escapades" comparable to the concert pieces on the soundtrack, or is it more of a different arrangement (besides the sax being more prominent, obvisouly)? Henry B 50
So is there any way to access the enhanced portion of an SA-CD other than by using an actual SA-CD player?

QMM 4
Cool news! Is "Escapades" comparable to the concert pieces on the soundtrack, or is it more of a different arrangement (besides the sax being more prominent, obvisouly)?More or less. The three movements aren't exact copies of their respective tracks; the additions are pretty much just more sax solos and other little tweaks. A24 4,338
This CD isn't what I would call cheap. Is there new musical material in the concert version?

TownerFan 4,983
Cool news! Is "Escapades" comparable to the concert pieces on the soundtrack, or is it more of a different arrangement (besides the sax being more prominent, obvisouly)? The first two movements are pretty much the same as heard in the OST album (Track 1 and 3, "Catch Me If You Can" and "Recollections"). The third movement is a bit different (called "The 'Float'" on the OST, track 2), the alto sax has a much more prominent role and there are quite a few very nice extensions, especially a more rousing and exihilarating coda. I heard the suite played live in Chicago in November 2007, with JW conducting and Dan Higgins playing the sax solo. Definitely one of the highlights of that concert. Neimoidian 14
I put it on my long purchase list. I only hope it won't be OOP until I finally decide to buy it.
Maestro 147
For those interested in only purchasing the JW contributions on this CD, it's now available for download on ClassicsOnline. The price breakup is a little funky, but it's still a lot cheaper than $20. TownerFan 4,983
Might get "Joy Ride" (The Float)You should get the whole suite. It's a very good recording, very well played and recorded. Marsalis brings out a more jazzy edge to the piece, imho.
