He couldn't make an original science fiction movie if he tried.Whoops, I've done it now. INCOMMIIIIIIIIING!!!!
Melange 446
It could be said that 2001 is a film that is an aloof witnessing. It's fly on the wall, that's why many mention this sense of distance. And the same witness who watched the apes, then watched HAL and beyond. It's a silent witness with no emotional investment. #SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
I disagree. 2001 is a very emotional film, even though the characters do not act in an overtly emotional manner.

John 2,032
Just stumbled upon this... excellent review for what I believe to be the greatest film of all time (sorry, Citizen Kane, Godfather, and yes, even you, my beloved E.T.). It works on so many levels. It’s a profound statement on humanity and its future, an astonishing visual achievement, and a milestone in the art of cinema. Kubrick never held the hand of his audience and that is just one of many reasons why his movies are so brilliant. He made true "motion pictures"; every scene and image is meticulously crafted and left onscreen just long enough in order to elicit the most provocative response from the audience. It wasn't just groundbreaking; it completely changed the way people made and view films. For the movie industry, there is “before 2001” and “after 2001”, as a clear line of just where everything changed. karelm and A24
