The originally planned opening of the film with the duel of young Luke and Leia. 1M7 Journey To Hell Presumably this is the unused opening of the ‘Journey To Exegol’ album track, replaced by tracking from 6M13 Rey’s Trip to P. 1M10 Ready To Be A Jedi The big initial statement of Kylo Ren’s theme comes from this cue. I’m not clear what scene this was intended for based on the title. 1M11 Talking To Luke The novelization appears to contain this deleted scene: 2M8 Pesante Pesante is a musical indication that means “heavy”. Uncertain what this cue was intended for. 3M8 Tunnel Monster As I speculated, it’s indeed 3M8. 4M3 Chewie’s Interrogation Surprised that the reveal was supposed to be this soon after Rey supposedly blew up Chewie’s transport (in 4M1 Rey’s Incredible Hand). More to come… Smeltington, Brando, mikal_grig and 8 others 8
Popular Post BrotherSound 2,487
A few more notes on the additional cues: 4M1C 8M4C1 8M4C2 8M4D Chant 8M5B Choir Overdub 8M8C Chorus There’s a surprising amount of unused chorus overdubs! I can’t really think of another JW score with this many overdubs or sweeteners. 4M22 The Feeling I guess this really is used where intended, when Rey realized Chewie is still alive. 4M30 It Fits! As I guessed, this is the insert for 5M10 Landing At ? for lining up the dagger with the Death Star wreckage. 5M8A More Maz Not where I expected ‘More Maz’ to fall, based on the novelization. Apparently there was an additional Maz scene just after the escape from the star destroyer (in 5M8 Geneology) at one point. 5M11 Instinct Must be JW’s intended music for the first conversation with Finn and Jannah, replaced by tracked music from TFA. I imagine this will make for a nice extended version of ‘The Old Death Star’ someday, between 5M10 Landing At ? and 5M12 Off The Waterfront. 7M5A Good Ships I’m guessing this insert for 7M5 March Of The Resistance may have added more of the resistance theme before it was just replaced with tracking from the March of the Resistance concert arrangement. 7M6 Uncharted Territory Apparently another deleted scene found in the novelization: 7M40 Emperor’s Attack Palpatine drains the life force out of Rey and Ben. 8M5B The Crowd Joins In 8M6 The Last Fight 7M42 Hero Fight The fight between Rey, Ben, and the knights of Ren is underscored with a combination of these cues. 8M1 Approaching the Emperor #2 8M3 v1 [untitled] 8M9 Rey and Palpatine The original versions of Approaching the Throne, More Action, and I Am All The Sith. 7M44 Name That Tune Insert for 7M38 I Am All The Sith. I believe it so named because it contains Rey’s theme, the emperor’s theme, and the force theme in quick succession. 8M11 Dropping The Saber 8M11A Dropping The Sabre Alt I was confused why ‘Dropping The Saber’ showed up earlier than expected in the GEMA cue list, in a place that didn’t sound anything like the opening of ‘Farewell’. Turns out 8M11A is actually an alternate version that uses Rey theme (and is the version actually used when she drops the saber), and 8M11 is a different version that doesn’t. 8M40 The Kiss 8M42 Falling Debris It appears JW wrote a third version of this scene that went entirely unused. The film uses the second version, 8M14 Ben To Rey, to cover both these scenes, apart from the actual kiss, which is covered by an excerpt from the first version 10M1 Rey and Ren. 9M30 Emperor’s Theme v1 9M31 Emperor’s Theme v2 9M32 Emperor’s Theme v3 9M33 Emperor’s Theme v4 9M34 Emperor’s Theme v5 Presumably “wild” (not synced to picture) versions of the Emperor’s theme that could be freely sprinkled into the score. 9M31 is used in the scene where Ren presents Boolio’s decapitated head, and 9M32 is used when Rey vows revenge. Chant Chant Rev Chant 2 Chant 2 Alt Some kind of Sith chants that went unused. (The Sith chanting actually heard in the film is from the sound effects team.) Anthem of Evil Possibly the choral portion of the ‘Anthem of Evil’ album track. I’m guessing that track combines a concert arrangement section with film cues, a la ‘Window to the Past’. The Rise of Skywalker Not terribly surprising to find the concert arrangement went by the same name internally, but that’s not always the case. See: ‘Rose’s Turn’. Note there’s some photos of the likely recording session for these chants: the chorus is set up here with percussion only, with no other instruments present at all. Can we assume they would also use this setup for the opening of Anthem of Evil? I want a TROS recording sessions leak, SOOOO FREAKIN BAD!!
