I love Powell’s X3 score! I told him that when I first heard it in 2006, I said to myself, “when JW steps down from composing, this guy needs to write Star Wars.” 

You perfectly summarized why it’s just an awesome score. Really hope an expansion will come soon.

That link now has a definitive release date for the score album: Friday May 17th, the same day the film opens

The trailer makes it look like Powell's music will be mostly something for in between the songs.

The video description has a link the pre-order the soundtrack with songs performed by Brittany Howard.
