  1. Quality of the film aside, it doesn't help that portions of Young's score was either dropped in favor of re-using Elfman's material from the first two films or re-recordings of his motifs. But the action scenes are pretty much intact, save for one bit during the construction site finale.
  2. Spider-Man 3 -- Christopher Young Still bummed that this doesn't have a proper release. He deconstructs and plays around with Elfman's thematic material more -- but still in that musical family. It's amazing how many themes Young composed for the film (that got cut out) -- and it's all wonderful. The lack of electronic percussion doesn't hurt the score. I actually prefer his arrangement of Elfman's opening titles theme over Elfman's original two.
  3. Alien Ridley Scott's best movie, period. It still feels contemporary, and the slow buildup still works well. The shocks still pack a punch, effects are seamless and Sigourney Weaver's performance still engaging. Even though Scott and editor Terry Rawlings butchered Goldsmith's wonderful score in the film, how they used it with the "Freud" cues makes the film so wonderfully effective.
  4. Ivanhoe - Miklos Rozsa I actually got my hands on a mint copy of the original 1995 Excalibur re-recording for $16. And it doesn't disappoint -- still sounds vibrant, punchy and expertly performed by the Sinfonia of London.
  5. I feel pretty confident Wallfisch is going to quote Elfman's Batman theme (especially since Keaton has officially signed on), and possibly his Flash motif.
  6. The film began production in London yesterday, and the studio confirmed that Wallfisch will reunite with director Andy Muschietti (IT, IT: Chapter 2) to compose the score. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/heat-vision/the-flash-movie-enlists-composer-benjamin-wallfisch
  7. Apparently, the person who leaked that Alfred Molina was on the set for NWH also said , but hasn't been confirmed by the trades.
  8. Alfred Molina Details Doc Ock's Return in 'Spider-Man: No Way Home' Guess that means Maguire and Dunst are back in some fashion.
  9. Ivanhoe (1952) It’s not a bad film, a decent swashbuckler with a fantastic Miklos Rozsa score and a stunningly hot Elizabeth Taylor as Rebecca. Seriously, Taylor is distractingly beautiful compared to the dowdy looking Joan Fontaine as Rowena. The score, Taylor and the technicolor cinematography do a lot of the major lifting .
  10. The big five studios (including Disney) reupped their deals with Kodak last year to buy more 35mm stock. https://www.hollywoodreporter.com/behind-screen/studios-up-kodak-deals-keep-celluloid-film-alive-1274709
  11. I wonder if Mangold and Papamichael will go back to 35mm stock to stay with Spielberg's aesthetic or will they continue shooting digitally?
  12. Disney bought the rights to distribute and market future Indiana Jones movies a year after they purchased Lucasfilm. Paramount still owns the distribution rights to the first four and will have financial participation in any future Disney IJ movies, i.e. The Avengers and Iron Man 3.
  13. I'm curious if Waller-Bridge was asked by Spielberg and Kennedy to doctor the Indy 5 script before she signed on to star alongside Ford. The cultural pandering by Hollywood for Chinese audiences ended in 2018. Besides, Indy already went to Shanghai in Temple of Doom. According to trade reports, Spielberg is "hands on" producing this movie. While I don't think he'll be looking over Mangold's shoulder, he'll probably pop over to the set and give notes on dailies. It's not like his hands-off approach to the Jurassic World movies.
  14. Phoebe Waller-Bridge is in talks to play the female lead, Williams returning to score https://deadline.com/2021/04/phoebe-waller-bridge-harrison-ford-indiana-jones-5-1234672236/
  15. Zombie For a movie beloved by horror fans, this doesn't have much to offer other than the gratuitous gore and pretty Dominican Republic locales. Lucio Fulci manages some effectively eerie scenes like the opening sequence but undermines that with ludicrous plotting, gonzo scoring by Fabio Frizzi and even worse acting. Too bad there's no Rifftrax on this. This was made for bad movies like these.
  16. "Krypton" was tracked into JL for one scene. That's why it's not on the Elfman OST.
  17. I have the "Tribute Film Classics Highlights" CD that has the best portions of the Hermann, Korngold and Steiner works TFC re-recorded. It is well worth the $5 if you don't want the full re-recordings and need shelf space. Most of the highlights are 3-4 tracks each from certain albums (like Adventures of Don Juan, Mysterious Island and Battle of Neretva), while a handful are just 1-2 (The Kentuckian, Fahrenheit 451).
  18. Full quote for those too lazy to click: "We’ll definitely refer to his original theme, and I’ll no doubt be coming up with new motifs for new situations and characters. I'm not going to ignore it. I don't believe in that. There's this weird thought process in Hollywood every time you do something new that you’ve got to let the original musical themes go and start fresh. I think that doesn't serve an audience well. So I like doing variations on a theme that I know for a character that an audience already associates with them. I think that's important. When I did Avengers: Age of Ultron, I was very careful to find places to play around with Alan Silvestri’s theme. And I enjoyed it."
  19. Neverending Story II - Robert Folk Folk is channeling Horner in Krull mode (and a bit of Williams' The Empire Strikes Back) -- and it is absolutely delightful. Not a fan of the new cover of the eponymous title song, Limahl did it best the first go-round.
  20. That is my favorite Steiner score -- period. Fun movie too, even if it's not one of Flynn's best. Tribute has done some AMAZING film score reconstruction and stellar re-recordings. Stromberg, Morgan and Bonn really invest a lot of time and love into these.
  21. Tom & Jerry (2021) It's marginally better than the woeful 1992 film (where T&J committed the sin of TALKING), but this turns into a film about human characters in a hotel -- with Tom & Jerry as supporting characters. Kinda misleading. And the vast majority of Tom & Jerry's antics are just unfunny. I don't know what Tim Story was thinking, but you don't score cartoon antics with R&B needle drops. And two, not including the titular theme is akin to doing a Bugs Bunny cartoon without Carl Stalling's arrangement of "The Merry-Go-Round Broke Down." It's inoffensive and kids will love it, so go for a matinee or stream it on HBO Max.
  22. Gunn is going to start work on GOTG V3 (and a holiday special) after he locks picture on The Suicide Squad and finish directing his episodes of "The Peacemaker." That DC project is going to be after GOTG V3. It's worse, just for the fact Pfeiffer isn't in it. She was fantastic in BR, even though I hated the movie overall.
  23. She does look like she could be related to Cavill or Russell Crowe, if the shirt Muschietti showed is any indication. I like her so far.
