toothless 963
Quote A firework display under the colors of Olympism Anne Hidalgo, Mayor of Paris, gives an appointment to Parisians, tourists and visitors to watch the fireworks, on the evening of July 14th, realized by the company Ruggieri. This show was built around the great values that Paris defends for its bid for the Olympic Games of 2024. Through a dozen frescoes, the Iron Lady will invite us to discover its city and will share with us the values of France, Paris and Olympism. Also, there is a 2H classical music concert that takes place before the fireworks (maybe another opportunity to ear some williams music) Here's what last year show looked like Bellosh and Will
Will 2,215
Are you sure the "trailer theme" they will do is actually by Williams? Cool that they're doing trailer music, though. Unusual! As a side note, Kathleen Kennedy needs to call them up demand that the ceremony not use American music to promote the French Olympic bid. We want the games to come to LA! toothless
toothless 963
Well I edited my post as the copy past did not work There is more than the trailer music ------- 3 minutes ago, Will said: We want the games to come to LA! Will 2,215
Another reason to want the Games to come to LA is that maybe JW would write a piece for it. It's his hometown, after all. This all assumes that he's alive in 2024. Think positively!
toothless 963
I'll give you that --- EDIT : Just to clarify : The music during the fireworks and light show is not played live obviously but the concert before well yes as it's a concert Will
Will 2,215
In fact, the "Olympic Fanfare and Theme" was premiered at the 1984 LA Opening Ceremony. 11 minutes ago, toothless said: Not a chance Actually, I just did a Google search and it looks like both might get an Olympics -- they might award 2024 and 2028 at the same time! http://www.latimes.com/sports/sportsnow/la-sp-ioc-bach-20170707-story.html Here's hoping they do LA first, so there's a chance of a new JW piece. The chance of him still being alive in 2028 will be smaller (yes, I know this is a really dark sentence ).

So there's no reasons to rehash this piece once again in LA, is there ? Will

Miguel Andrade 1,263
Did the actual concert had any Williams music? A few years back, they included the Star Wars main title -- I want to say that it was Daniel Gatti conducting, though I'm not sure.
toothless 963
No there was no music in the concert before the fireworks show And indeed 2 or 3 years ago they included the Star Wars main title

They were simply willing to negotiate, and they got financial concessions for waiting. Unfortunately, none of those concessions will make John Williams live longer. Of course, since I don't actually live in LA, I don't care that much. I'm not sure if you live in Paris or not, but if so I'm happy for you (well, assuming there aren't cost overruns!) toothless 963
I did not even know this thread existed Indeed it's a win-win situation where Paris can FINALLY host the olympics again and LA will have financial compensation. It's great news Of course it lessens the possibility of a John Williams piece… PS : I do live in Paris and look very forward to the olympics Will

toothless 963
Yes this year was complete trash I don’t understand given it was so much better other year. This year the music had no relations with each other and was not synchronized with the firework. I guess it was a rush job due to COVID...
eitam 364
And by the way, earlier on that day, during the traditional July 14th military parade (smaller scale this year, due to covid concerns), a military band played the second half of Summon the Heroes, followed by Olympic Fanfare and Theme. Can't say that I'm overly impressed by the performance... But cool anyway.
