IrishCal24 0 Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 Here we go again, another re-make. CoomingSoon.net has posted the news as reported by Variety. The report doesn't specify that Spielberg will be directing the movie, just that he's likely to be attached as an executive producer at this point. David Koepp has been tapped to re-write the script; we all know how The Lost World, their last book adaptation together, turned out. However, just imagine the potential for a John Williams WotW score!
Morlock 12 Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 You gotta be shittin' me! So that's the secret project Spielberg and Cruise talked about when they were on Oprah for Minority Report! And I like David Koepp. He may have done TLW, but he also did The Paper, Panic Room, and Mission Impossible, which I liked alot (The Paper in particular). mmmmmmmmm...... JW doing War of The Worlds
Lurker 5 Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 The best news in that article? "Spielberg's plans for Indiana Jones 4 have stalled". Neil
ChrisAfonso 237 Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 Traitor  However, following two links there you get to a Spielberg quote saying that Indy 4 will definitely be made.
Lurker 5 Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 Traitor   I've never wanted to see Indiana Jones IV.Neil
ChrisAfonso 237 Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 So, if it is eventually made, and shown in the theater, you won't go see it?
Lurker 5 Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 So, if it is eventually made, and shown in the theater, you won't go see it?No, I'd go to see it, but lets just say the idea doesn't excite me.Neil
ChrisAfonso 237 Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 So the only way your perception of the movie can go is up
Lurker 5 Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 So the only way your perception of the movie can go is up This is indeed true. However, I'm perfectly satisfied with the three Indiana Jones movies that we have now and see absolutely no need for a fourth film.Neil
Morlock 12 Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 I used to be for a fourth one- but let's just say that know, I wouldn't mind if it just fizzled away.
diskobolus 3 Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 i've never seen the original war of the worlds....
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 what? never, it was just on last week, it was wonderful.Joe, hoping Spielberg, Cruise and company keep the religious ending.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 there are alot of words to describe a persons dislike for War of the World, but silly isn't one of them, there is really nothing silly at all in WOTW.
Morlock 12 Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 I've also never seen it. But I do listen to Orson Welles' broadcast every once in a while. That's a marvelous rendition. But I wish for someone to really make a film worthy of Wells' words. I really wanna see a great rendition of The Time Machine. Such a fantastic story, with one movie version of it being good, but not really capturing the book (IMO) and the other being one of the worst movies I've seen maybe ever- and that was directed by his great grandson! I think Spielberg could do a great job with it. He's so far been IMO very good with book adaptations, and he really seems to transfer the feel of the book to the screen (Again, IMO).
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 seriously how can you people have grown up being movie fans and not have seenWar of the Worlds. Its a wonderful version of Well's tale set in a modern world, at least for the then modern world and the FX's are still great and the awesome sound effects.
Ollie 1,375 Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 If I'm not mistaken Tom Cruise has been attached to this project for a few years. Maybe now it will take off.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,388 Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 I saw it, it a good film that must have blown people away back then. For today's film going audience it is probably to serious and not "self-aware" enough. But I enjoyed the fact that the film played it's story COMPLETELY straight.
HPFAN_2 0 Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 I hope Spielberg improves the movie and not ruin it.
A24 5,156 Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 I've seen this movie already. So many stories and yet so few movies. Will it be Independence Day all over again?
QMM 4 Posted March 17, 2004 Posted March 17, 2004 If it's as good as the War of the World's story arc from League of Extraordinary Gentlemen Vol II, then I will be perfectly satisfied. The best news in that article? "Spielberg's plans for Indiana Jones 4 have stalled". Â Neil banghead
King Mark 3,975 Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 That would be perfect for a Williams score.K.M.Preparing to watch Survivor
Morlock 12 Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 K.M.Preparing to watch Survivor I hope you mean with a cyanide pill
MSM 194 Posted March 18, 2004 Posted March 18, 2004 I've seen this movie already. So many stories and yet so few movies. Will it be Independence Day all over again?I hope so! Then finally we can hear how Williams would have scored ID4!Btw didn't see WotW either, read the book though and loved it.
