Cool! You're like the Jerry Goldsmith version of what I do! lol

Question, you didn't use the films sfx... was that because they used other music in these scenes? (never seen the movies)

Good job, Jim! Goldsmith's is GREAT. I haven't seen the movie, what was this cue replaced by?

It was a little impractical for thes cues:

Looney Tunes has a hideous song throughout this sequence.

The X-Files has a loud alternate percussive cue.

The Two Towers uses alternate music for the opening section of the piece but none for the rest. I could mix in the film audio here.

I also wanted the music to be the primary focus, but some of the other cues I'm working on will definitely give me the opportunity to mix in dialogue and effects where appropriate. :|

That's still cool. I try to use the film audio if possible with my edits, but I know what you mean... sometimes you just cannot get around it and have to simply use the music against the visuals...

Didn't realize FSM did something like that. That's quite cool.

I'm not going to spam this guys thread with an argument with you. You go to you my youtube and check out the videos I've posted. They almost all have the original audio with the unused/alternates mixed in then.

Then you tell me what is "realism."

Sometimes you can't, but quite often you can.

Which means it's not impossible... just that you don't prefer it.

Anyways...

What are your next videos you plan on doing?

I once took a rip of the SFX only track from A Bug's Life and put The Great Eatlon from Lady in the Water up against it. It's disturbing and amazing how well they went together, not only timing-wise, but also generally how well the music fit.

Nice job, Jim. Good idea putting these on YouTube.

I like the music for the duel in the carbon freezing chamber left in TESB. I've tried syncing that up several times on my own. It works on so many levels.

Just watched the TTT restoration - great Job :)

I have to say though that I think the scene worked better without music. Gandalf's voice during the 'fying through space' but was almost like music itself.

Wow, they were fantastic... it was like hearing an isolated score :)

And the piece used over the first scene in Bag End, what cue is that, if not an edit? It sounds like the beginning is Shadow of the Past, but then segues into something I've not heard before and then joins KISS, KISS at about 5.20.

It's not on the original album or the complete recordings but can be found on one of the FOTR EE DVD menus.

Nicely done on these projects Jim! I absolutely loved The Matrix Reloaded unused cue. I had always wondered how well Don Davis' original cue would go with that scene. While Davis's original cue is good for some reason I guess I'm more partial to Rob Dougan's version. Probably because I'm just to used to hearing Dougan's version while watching the scene.

Anyways keep up the good work hope you do more of these restorations. :)

Excellent. Although I do think that in all of these cases, the absence of music (or the alternate used for the carousel sequence) worked better for the movie. Which just goes to show that De Palma not only knows about the music that should be in his movies, but als about the music that shouldn't. :D

Approaching the House is quite amazingly over the top, isn't it? Perhaps it was dropped because it reduced the impact of Gillian's Power at the end of the film.

Exceptionally well done. Bravo Jim!

I just can't see it working together with Robin's scratching fingernails. The sequence works well based on the sound approach in the released version.

Of course, the entire movie is over the top. That's why I love it. :D

Here's my first attempt at this (sorry about the poor quality - I'm far from expert at this kind of thing ). It's the complete "Killer Storm" cue from The Omen. In the film, only the section from 1:30-2:48 was used. I can see why they cut the first part of the cue, but they should definitely have left in the ending. See for yourself: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iGrqwFhm3OY

Looking at it now, I probably should have mixed the music a bit louder, but it still works OK.

That's all happening in his head.

Jim if you take requests, can you do the laternate cue of "Spock's Arrival" in "Star Trek: The Motion Picture"?

Posted

Good job, but I'm glad they re-did that one, the original cue doesn't really work very well IMO.

I thought it worked surprisingly well. In fact, it made the scenes and emotion better (in my opinion).

Just another reminder of what we lost when he passed away.
