My vacation has come to and end as well. What was supposed to be a 2 week vacation (starting last week, ending after this upcoming weekend) turned into just 4 days off, as I worked Mon-Tue last week and am back at work today. In between I had a great camping trip with about a dozen friends, a yearly tradition for the past 12 years. 4 glorious days of no internet, no phone, no tv, no electronics. Lots of relaxing, swimming, drinking, eating, and relaxing. Great times.

Gotta finish up some perpetually delayed projects at work so I can take that second week off I am dreaming about. Gotta love feature creep!

Belgian perhaps?

Maybe. I was thinking on a Romance speaker from Western Europe and went with French. I might have been completely fooled, though!

what do you call a real holiday?

Posted

a holiday in this country is not a vacation.

Christmas is a Holiday,

my time off this past week was a vacation.

Big difference.

Oh, then I call a vacation vacaciones, and when there's a celebration of some kind is fiesta. Sometimes they overlap.

Yeah, Brits don't go on vacation, they go on holiday. A fortnight in Majorca more often than not ;)

I prefer the Brit version, using "vacation" in English sounds weird to me.

How about 'Intermission'?

yes but what do you call an actual holiday like Christmas?

I'm actually quite a bit of a semite-philic. The Phoenicians, Akkadians, the Andalusis.... Great stuff.

OMG! Those are made of Legos! Somebody call Merkel!!! :o

Christmas. It's just called Christmas. Or, "the Christmas break."

according to google brits call an actual Holiday a Holiday just like a vacation.

A holiday is a vacation, yes. If that's what you mean. Christmas is Christmas. We don't use vacation to describe anything. Although we use a variant of it to inform others the toilet is now available.

Great Britian has many HOLIDAYS, New Years Day, Valentines Day, St David's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Halloween, Christmas Day, and many more I didn't name. Some are religious, some are National, some specifically National, some are secular.

Joey likes to repeat his material over and over and over and over and over again....

jason doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about. No surprise there.

I wondered the term Holiday, which in this country does not mean a vacation.

I wondered what Holidays occured in other countries, but apparently no one celebrates actual Holidays anymore since no one can answer the question.

chaac, I just wondered if anyone in Europe celebrates religious, secular, or national holidays.
