Datameister 2,586 Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 To all Jwfaners accross the pond: HAPPY LABOR DAY!Thanks! Oop, gotta get ready for work...
hornist 1,261 Posted September 3, 2012 Posted September 3, 2012 Labor day? I'm still having my vacation...
Jay 46,245 Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 My vacation has come to and end as well. What was supposed to be a 2 week vacation (starting last week, ending after this upcoming weekend) turned into just 4 days off, as I worked Mon-Tue last week and am back at work today. In between I had a great camping trip with about a dozen friends, a yearly tradition for the past 12 years. 4 glorious days of no internet, no phone, no tv, no electronics. Lots of relaxing, swimming, drinking, eating, and relaxing. Great times.Gotta finish up some perpetually delayed projects at work so I can take that second week off I am dreaming about. Gotta love feature creep!
Quintus 6,499 Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Good luck! Though I'm sure you'll do very well.
alicebrallice 134 Posted September 4, 2012 Posted September 4, 2012 Exams! Exams incoming! Agh!what are you studying? if you don't mind me asking.

Jay 46,245 Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 Did Bloodboal just reveal where he is from?
Jay 46,245 Posted September 7, 2012 Posted September 7, 2012 So you only saw that commercial because you're in Barcelona for work? Damn!
Brónach 1,330 Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Maybe. I was thinking on a Romance speaker from Western Europe and went with French. I might have been completely fooled, though!
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 a holiday in this country is not a vacation.Christmas is a Holiday,my time off this past week was a vacation.Big difference.
Brónach 1,330 Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Oh, then I call a vacation vacaciones, and when there's a celebration of some kind is fiesta. Sometimes they overlap.
Quintus 6,499 Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 Yeah, Brits don't go on vacation, they go on holiday. A fortnight in Majorca more often than not
Brónach 1,330 Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 I prefer the Brit version, using "vacation" in English sounds weird to me.
Melange 448 Posted September 8, 2012 Posted September 8, 2012 I prefer the Brit version, using "vacation" in English sounds weird to me.How about 'Intermission'?[media=]
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Yeah, Brits don't go on vacation, they go on holiday. A fortnight in Majorca more often than not yes but what do you call an actual holiday like Christmas?
Quintus 6,499 Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Christmas. It's just called Christmas. Or, "the Christmas break."
Brónach 1,330 Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Lately I've been calling it Saturnalia.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,392 Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Christmas. It's just called Christmas. Or, "the Christmas break."An insulting term to Jews, Muslims, Hindu's and Sikhs.
Brónach 1,330 Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 That's stupid in three different ways.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,392 Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 Guilty until proven innocent i'd say!
Brónach 1,330 Posted September 9, 2012 Posted September 9, 2012 I'm actually quite a bit of a semite-philic. The Phoenicians, Akkadians, the Andalusis.... Great stuff.
Incanus 5,891 Posted September 10, 2012 Posted September 10, 2012 OMG! Those are made of Legos! Somebody call Merkel!!!
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Christmas. It's just called Christmas. Or, "the Christmas break."according to google brits call an actual Holiday a Holiday just like a vacation.
Quintus 6,499 Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 A holiday is a vacation, yes. If that's what you mean. Christmas is Christmas. We don't use vacation to describe anything. Although we use a variant of it to inform others the toilet is now available.
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Great Britian has many HOLIDAYS, New Years Day, Valentines Day, St David's Day, St. Patrick's Day, Halloween, Christmas Day, and many more I didn't name. Some are religious, some are National, some specifically National, some are secular.
Brónach 1,330 Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 What's with yu obssesion with the term? You brought it up on the first page too.
Jay 46,245 Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 Joey likes to repeat his material over and over and over and over and over again....
JoeinAR 1,957 Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 jason doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about. No surprise there.I wondered the term Holiday, which in this country does not mean a vacation.I wondered what Holidays occured in other countries, but apparently no one celebrates actual Holidays anymore since no one can answer the question.chaac, I just wondered if anyone in Europe celebrates religious, secular, or national holidays.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 12,392 Posted September 11, 2012 Posted September 11, 2012 jason doesn't know what the fuck he's talking about. No surprise there. Thank you.
