I'm fond of...
"Miserere" by The Cat Empire
"Oh! Sweet Nuthin'" by The Velvet Underground
"Sad, Sad Song" by M. Ward
"A Better Place, A Better Time" by Streetlight Manifesto
Pretty much the entirety of the albums of the last two songs, Transfiguration Of Vincent and Everything Goes Numb, respectively, do it for me.
In 50 years Herrmann will be forgotten.

John Williams sucks, he doesn't write with a quill pen, there is no emotion in pencil music ! Purcell is the man !Among all the things I have done in my short and pitiful life, becoming an inside joke on JWFAN is the one I'm the least proud of.

I can listen to sad music when I am happy, but I cannot listen to any music when I am sad.
Same here...I also don't want to listen to something if I'm angry/ bad mood, I feel like the next time I hear it, I'll just remember the sucky time I was having....I tend to associate memories with music I'm listening to pretty vividly, as I'm sure others do.

It's musical zoloft, it helps bring you out of it. The songs I've picked tear me down and immediately bring me back up.Wait...you listen to sad music when you're sad? When I'm sad it's the most bombastic and brassy stuff I can find. If it approaches being experimental or being sad I won't go near it.

The thread title makes no sense to the topic. Zoloft is supposed to make you feel better, not "wollow in your sorrow"!
It's musical zoloft, it helps bring you out of it.
No one's saying they're wallowing in their sorrow, except Alice

I second this! If I get in a pissed off, depressed, or sad type of mood, I will generally listen to some action type music to lift up my spirits. Generally "Russell's Packin'" from Independence Day, "The Ultimate War" from Hook, or "The Battle Of Hoth" can do that.

I will say, however, that playing loud, fast, violent music on the piano can be pretty cathartic when I'm not feeling my best. Especially if I haven't played too recently, if it's a nice piano, or if I really get to smash my fingers into those ivories.

When I am in a bad mood I usually listen to aggressive music which basically works as a way to let my steam out instead of venting it on innocent people.
Ars superior est vita hominum.
"We pop out and come into the world and music is there. We didn't invent it - it's all organised in the atmosphere by divinity or whatever. It's a miracle." - John Williams-
I think music is a stream of some kind. It could be blood. It could be water. It could be ether. Whatever it is it seems to be a living, organic force that’s in motion, that serves humanity and is part of humanity and part of what describes us as humans. We sing, play, dance, all the things that we do. And there is a vibrant and great literature we have been given. ... As musicians, we join the stream. We swim in the stream with all the other millions of music makers. It’s a life force, a strong one, surrounding us and we are part of it. -John Williams-

This is exactly how I feel as well. When I'm sad, I either don't listen to any music or listen to some of the most melancholic yet beautiful music I own. Schindler's List is often most effective in these times. If I am feeling down I usually either not listen to music at all or listen to something which actually enhances the sadness. The saddest music has enormously cathartic effect I find, it helps you with your grief and some of the most beautiful music ever written happens to be sad.
This goes for me as well. And no cue works better "The Siege of Gondor" to really let out some steamWhen I am in a bad mood I usually listen to aggressive music which basically works as a way to let my steam out instead of venting it on innocent people.

Me too, Datameister. It's very cathartic to pound out some angry Rachmaninoff or just to improvise something pounding and angry. Ahh...I feel better already just talking about it. lol.

Anxiety, constipation, decreased libido... y'know, the usual.
gas with oily discharge, increased bowel movements, an urgent need to have them, and an inability to control them.

"Grond - The Hammer of the Underworld" works really well too. Now that's one angry piece!
