Koray Savas 2,260 Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 So we know your musical adrenaline rushes, but what do you listen to when you're depressed or generally in a bad mood?I'm fond of..."Miserere" by The Cat Empire"Oh! Sweet Nuthin'" by The Velvet Underground"Sad, Sad Song" by M. Ward"A Better Place, A Better Time" by Streetlight ManifestoPretty much the entirety of the albums of the last two songs, Transfiguration Of Vincent and Everything Goes Numb, respectively, do it for me.

Naïve Old Fart 13,025 Posted May 15, 2012 Posted May 15, 2012 I can listen to sad music when I am happy, but I cannot listen to any music when I am sad.
indy4 160 Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 Wait...you listen to sad music when you're sad? When I'm sad it's the most bombastic and brassy stuff I can find. If it approaches being experimental or being sad I won't go near it.
MrJosh 1,205 Posted May 16, 2012 Posted May 16, 2012 I can listen to sad music when I am happy, but I cannot listen to any music when I am sad.Same here...I also don't want to listen to something if I'm angry/ bad mood, I feel like the next time I hear it, I'll just remember the sucky time I was having....I tend to associate memories with music I'm listening to pretty vividly, as I'm sure others do.

The songs I've picked tear me down and immediately bring me back up.
Jill Sandwich 11,168 Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 The thread title makes no sense to the topic. Zoloft is supposed to make you feel better, not "wollow in your sorrow"!So my meds are:Judge DreddPredatorCuthroat IslandIndependence DayBatman ForeverLooney Tunes: Back In ActionThe Elephant Man

If it approaches being experimental or being sad I won't go near it.I second this! If I get in a pissed off, depressed, or sad type of mood, I will generally listen to some action type music to lift up my spirits. Generally "Russell's Packin'" from Independence Day, "The Ultimate War" from Hook, or "The Battle Of Hoth" can do that.
Datameister 2,586 Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 When I'm depressed or sad, I generally don't want to listen to any music. For me, music tends to just worsen a bad mood. I might try a score that has sentimental value for me, like Star Wars or The Lion King or Mary Poppins or something, but usually I'll get annoyed after a few minutes and shut it off. It's only when I'm feeling decent that music becomes a joy for me.I will say, however, that playing loud, fast, violent music on the piano can be pretty cathartic when I'm not feeling my best. Especially if I haven't played too recently, if it's a nice piano, or if I really get to smash my fingers into those ivories.
Incanus 5,890 Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 If I am feeling down I usually either not listen to music at all or listen to something which actually enhances the sadness. The saddest music has enormously cathartic effect I find, it helps you with your grief and some of the most beautiful music ever written happens to be sad. When I am in a bad mood I usually listen to aggressive music which basically works as a way to let my steam out instead of venting it on innocent people.

When I'm sad, I either don't listen to any music or listen to some of the most melancholic yet beautiful music I own. Schindler's List is often most effective in these times. When I am in a bad mood I usually listen to aggressive music which basically works as a way to let my steam out instead of venting it on innocent people. This goes for me as well. And no cue works better "The Siege of Gondor" to really let out some steam

It's very cathartic to pound out some angry Rachmaninoff or just to improvise something pounding and angry. Ahh...I feel better already just talking about it. lol.
Wojo 2,458 Posted May 17, 2012 Posted May 17, 2012 "The Siege of Gondor" works. So does "The Ring Is Mine," or whatever the name of that track is when Frodo loses it."Bridge of Khazad-Dum""Belly of the Steel Beast""Ave Satani"

Not Mr. Big 5,011 Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 I listen to the Social Network to get in a bad mood.
Williamsfan301 12 Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 what would the side effects be of having musical Zoloft?
Koray Savas 2,260 Posted May 18, 2012 Author Posted May 18, 2012 Anxiety, constipation, decreased libido... y'know, the usual.
Williamsfan301 12 Posted May 18, 2012 Posted May 18, 2012 Anxiety, constipation, decreased libido... y'know, the usual.gas with oily discharge, increased bowel movements, an urgent need to have them, and an inability to control them.(from an actual radio spot for a weightloss drug)
