mrbellamy 7,461 Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Whoa: http://variety.com/2015/film/news/melissa-mathison-e-t-screenwriter-dies-dead-1201633801/
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,081 Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Thats sad.So BFG will be her final film.Rest in peace
Director of Poltergeist 8,228 Posted November 4, 2015 Posted November 4, 2015 Sad. She wrote my favorite film of all time.RIPI had no idea she wrote the new Spielberg flick. That does give me some hope.
Lady Dimitrescu 10,077 Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Lousy headline from Variety alright.
mrbellamy 7,461 Posted November 5, 2015 Author Posted November 5, 2015 It really is, looking at it. "The ex-wife of Harrison Ford" wtf.
Lady Dimitrescu 10,077 Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Probably because of SEO. Unfortunately, Variety probably throught Harrison Ford's name would track better as a keyword than Melissa Mathison on its own.
Director of Poltergeist 8,228 Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 Even the URL is kind of horrible. It says "dies-dead".Anyway, fuck Variety and their penis breaths. crumbs 1
Matt C 542 Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 That's a shame. It doesn't really specified the cause of death, just a vague "died after a brief illness."
Quintus 5,784 Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 She wrote domestic life authenticity on par with Spielberg's own honest work on CE3K and imbued it with a powerful sense of fantastical heart. RIP.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,081 Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 "Alligators in the sewer."
Not Mr. Big 4,836 Posted November 5, 2015 Posted November 5, 2015 I'm not too familiar with her body of work unfortunately but I do believe that E.T's script is essentially perfect, ranking near the top of my favorite scripts of all time. I look forward to exploring her filmography (especially The BFG) in the near future. Reese in piece.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 11,081 Posted November 12, 2015 Posted November 12, 2015 Great article on Melissa Mathison with some moving comments from Spielberg.http://time.com/4109365/melissa-mathison-steven-spielberg/ Director of Poltergeist 1
dmin7b5 0 Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 Very sad, a great loss. I just recorded the End Credits piano part from E.T here, what a great movie and score.
Melange 448 Posted November 14, 2015 Posted November 14, 2015 That's a shame. It doesn't really specified the cause of death, just a vague "died after a brief illness."It seems to have been updated, as it says the following............died Wednesday at UCLA Medical Center of neuroendrocrine cancer, her brother Dirk Mathison said.
