  1. In 1998 we heard TPM was gonna be a great film. In 2001 we were told AOTC was gonna be a dark and epic lovestory that would set right the things that were wrong with TPM. And here in 2004 we are asked to forget that the first 2 films rather sucked and put our faith once again into the hands of Lucasfilm. Even if Ep III tuns out to be good, it would be to little to late. 1 right does not amend 2 wrongs. We heard all this from the studio and the people making the films. Of course they're going to say that it's gonna be great. I've never heard "Yeah, we tried our best with this film, but don't bother cause it really sucks." Everybody forms their opinions after they see the movie for themselves. Reaction by the press and fans was very negative for TPM, and so so for AOTC. We'll see for Ep.3, but everyone involved in the making will toe the company line. That's thier job. I like TPM, and very much enjoy AOTC, but I know I'm in the vast minority and won't change any minds, so I'll just leave it at that.
  2. Seconded. Quite a beautiful little cue, and a nice change of pace from the normal fanfare based "map and red line" cues.
  3. I still care, for one. I know I'm in the minority here, but I don't see the prequels as a sign of the apocalypse. I'm quite looking forward to Ep.3. I think it'll surprise a lot of people who haven't been that thrilled with Eps. 1 and 2.
  4. BIRTH OF THE EMPIRE Comments? Personally I like "Rise of the Empire" better, but I won't quibble. And hopefully this won't turn into yet another tedious Lucas bashing thread.
  5. Star Wars: A New Hope SE Empire Strikes Back SE Return of the Jedi SE Phantom Meanace OST and UE (and my personal Ulitmate Edit) Attack of the Clones OST Hook OST and boot Raiders of the Lost Ark- '95 expanded release Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade OST and boot ET 20th Anniversary The Patriot AI Superman- Rhino 2 disc Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets Summon the Heroes- 2000 NBC release American Journey And, in just over two weeks, Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban! Oh, and about that SW box set: 8O
  6. I would have loved to hear JW take a crack at a Star Trek film. He couldn't have done better than Goldsmith on TMP, but maybe on one of the later films. LOTR wouldv'e been great too if he had the time to do it. What we got is very good, but not without its flaws.
  7. That's exactly what I'm referring to. Listen to the concert piece Luke and Leia, then listen to that section. The rythym's been altered slightly, but it's there. I'm sorry I can't put it better than that. Maybe someone who speaks music that hears what I hear can give a more satisfactory explanation.
  8. Actually, I'll back you up on this (since it was in my top 10 too 8O ). This was my fav AOTC cue from day 1. The statement of the Imperial March was possibly the most intense written yet, and the huge statement of the love theme is awesome. By the way, anyone else notice that the last few notes before the end credits crash in is a statement of Luke and Leia's Theme from Jedi? Very nice touch.
  9. -How many Williams c.d's do you own? 19 so far -Do you have every Legit releases or most of them? Nope. -Do you only get the film scores or/and the concert works. Mainly film scores, I have the Olympic concert pieces. -Do you plan to eventually get everything? Maybe one day... -Are you obsessed aquiring every note Williams ever composed? Not really. -Do you get Williams scores even if you don't like them for sake of completeness? Hmm, again not yet. -Do you get stuff you never even heard? Oh yeah, especially when I was starting my collection. I found a copy of Hook, and got it just because I had heard how good it was. I wasn't disappointed. -Do you have the various bootlegs that are floating around? Not the boots per say, I downloaded the complete Last Crusade and Hook from the Internet. And I got Episode II when the boot hit the 'Net, but I still bought it. -What's your "Prize Posession". For a time it was Episode II when it was still a bootleg before the CD came out, now it would be all the Star Wars, as they are my favorites. -What's your Holy Grail? Complete releases of Episode II and both Harry Potter scores. -Do you have some complete scores from rear channel DVD extractions? No. -Do you buy the Boston Pops c.d.'s? No, I don't think I've ever seen any in a store. I might one day. -Do you buy the Williams compilations by other orchestras? No. -What are any major holes in your collection? Schindler's List, CE3K. -What do you plan on buying or aquiring in the near future? Maybe Minority Report and Catch Me if You Can if I ever get around to watching the films. -Are there certain types of Williams c.d.'s that you don't like and avoid even if they are available?(60's comedy scores,americana...) Probably his really early work from the 60s and early 70s, I'm not much interested in that right now. -Any major Williams scores(Star Wars,Indy,Superman,JP,Potter..ect...)you never heard on c.d. presention? Temple of Doom. -Are you only a Williams fan for mainly for certain specific series of film scores because you are big fans of the movies and don't really care about the rest?(Harry Potter,Star Wars) I became a Williams fan through Star Wars, but the last few years I have been branching out to most of his other major works.
  10. Deep Space Nine. The most dynamic and best characters, serialization (all the best TV shows are serialized, except soap operas ), and of course the war. TNG is good, but the lack of character development for anyone except Picard and Data (and Worf's hair) and episodic style don't work for me. TOS is way to camp for me, and the less said about Voyager and Enterprise the better.
  11. I agree completely. The last couple of movies were better than popular opinion, especially Nemesis. Maybe Berman should try to figure out why DS9 was the best Trek series ever, instead of bemoaning its complexity. I didn't watch any of Enterprise this past year, but I will give it another chance next year, more due to most of my favorite shows (Buffy, Farscape) ending last year. But I'm giving it a short leash. Main Theme from Final Fantasy VII- Nobuo Uematsu, the John Williams of video games
  12. Sorry, but that was NOT written by JW. There are many people who automatically attribute anything they hear from a movie to him, and that sometimes bleeds over to video games too. It is a superb piece of music, but not by our man.
  13. Just because it's in the article doesn't mean it's true. There are many lazy reporters out there that don't check their facts, especially those not on main "hard news" beats. He probably just saw the credit for COS and assumed it was for both the HP movies. I wouldn't get too worked up over this. We know what he did.
  14. Nobuo Uematsu is the man, the JW of video games. And the two Chrono (Square RPGs like FF) scores are great too. And so are most Lucasarts (Monkey Island!), and Nintendo (Zelda) scores.
  15. I beleive it says in the SW:ANH SE that both pieces are written in the same key.
  16. For a long time it was Star Trek: The Motion Picture, but now it is Howard Shore's incredible Lord of the Rings.
  17. I agree. With all the wonderful new themes, COS had the potential to be a top tier score. What is there that is new from Williams is first rate. The Flying Car has become one of my favorite cues ever, and I love the increased use of Harry's theme. But there is just too much that's been "adapted" from the first movie. The only reason that SS cues are "adapted" and not just plain tracked, like AOTC, is because they were re-recorded and slightly changed to fit the scene they're in. A potentially great score only allowed to be half great.
  18. In the "anatomy of a scene" special they do for Dumbledore's office on the second disc there is a few minutes of JW and Chris Columbus discussing the score. They say the usual stuff, but what's interesting is there is NO mention anywhere of William Ross or his contributions. They even show a clip of JW conducting, even though we know that Ross conducted this particular score. Guess the rumors about their disapointment with his work were true... And I'm still getting over seeing JW conduct without his black turtleneck on. Maybe it was a double. LOL
  19. Too add one... I believe that there is a new theme for Anakin. The dark, sad fanfare that plays when he falls to his knees on the grave of his mother is it I think. It plays again sometime after the scene shifts to the Lars garage. I think I've heard variations of it during the film, but I'm not sure if it's on the CD. I need to hear the whole score independent of the film to say for sure.
  20. I feel a definite SW flavor in the air... 1. Return of the Jedi 2. The Empire Strikes Back 3. A New Hope (or Star Wars for all you picky traditionalists out there 4. The Phantom Menace 5. Attack of the Clones 6. Hook 7. Superman 8. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade 9. Raiders of the Lost Ark 10. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone I've always considered all the SW scores as a whole my favorite of JW's works, so my rankings of those five are kinda random, but I followed the rules.
  21. Because the SW scores are linked together by a huge number of themes, almost becoming one score, written a little at a time, like the story in the films. While the Indy scores have similar feels, there is only one recurring theme, and the movies are much more loosely linked. Because all SW scores are my favorites, I see them equally (which I will catch heat for, I'm sure). And because I felt like it.
  22. 1. The Star Wars Saga 2. Hook 3. Superman 4. Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone 5. Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade 6. Raiders of the Lost Ark 7. ET 8. Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom 9. Jurassic Park 10. The Patriot - I'm sure Chamber of Secrets will have a place here, but I'm waiting to see the movie.
