  1. The new James Cameron extravaganza. Can't wait!!!
  2. My modest wishlist: 8O CDs: Munich, Memoirs of a Geisha DVD: The King of Queens (4th season) iPod nano in white (4GB) That about covers it.
  3. I still haven't . . . What about the Munich CD? Does anyone (in Europe OR the rest of the world) alrewady own it???
  4. Wrong!!! Longest-living composer: John Williams 8O
  5. Last year, some people in the audience cheered and applauded when John Williams's name came up after Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban. Then I smiled to myself. I think JW is more widely known than one would assume . . .
  6. Well I'm sorry, but Goldsmith wrote for truly terrible movies throughout his career. In that sense he was never an A-list composer. King Solomon's Mines, Dennis The Menace.... Sheesh.... Well, Jerry had to write for movies that were slightly inferior, because John Williams took all the good ones!!! That's what I think. And if you think about it, there aren't that many good movies out there . . .
  7. Amazon.de confirms that... Well, I saw it on amazon.at!!! LOL
  8. I don't think I've announced this on this MB before, but I'm Japanese; my great-grandfather was American, but aside from that I own a Japanese passport. But since I was born in Vienna, Austria, my way of thinking is more Western-oriented, I guess. But all my relatives (and my mother) live in Japan and I feel very close to that country. As to why there are so many people from Holland -- I guess that's just coincidence. I'm actually more surprised that there aren't more American fans -- JW is an American, after all, and you'd think there would be more American than Dutch fans.
  9. Somehow I don't think that JW will take a break. Maybe not 4 scores again next year, but certainly 1 or 2. At least, that's what I hope . . . It all depends on whether Spielberg will release a movie next year.
  10. I just saw that the score is being released on January 20 in Austria!!!!! AAAAAAUURGGHHHHHHHHHH!!!!! I'm gonna immigrate to America!!!!!!
  11. "One of the most prolific composers of the 1980's" implies that the composer in question isn't all that prolific anymore . . . and JW is still very much prolific. And ToD has already been released once. It's just not available anymore. But then again, who knows? Maybe I'm being just a tad too pessimistic. :?
  12. I think in Austria we don't even have the release date for the movie, let alone the soundtrack!!! God, I wish I were someplace else (where I can get my JW CDs on time)!!!!
  13. This is all highly subjective, sure, but you have to ask yourself this: What other composers have written music that I like more, or what other composers have written more music that I like than JW. If you can't name anyone, than (for you at least) he's certainly the best.
  14. What do you think? 8O I'm really curious as to the result.
  15. Yeah, as a matter of fact, it does. It's not edited like in the previous edition, so you can hear Spielberg and Williams talking a lot more about the score. For the true aficionando, I think it's worth the buy. P.S. There's no footage of the recording sessions, though -- I think they didn't even bother back then.
  16. Does anyone know the release date in Germany or Austria???
  17. Well, as to SPR. Of course, Hymn to the Fallen is the centerpiece, the track everybody keeps coming back to. That's what I thought, too, until recently. Then I discovered the second and third tracks, as well. Especially Omaha Beach is really a masterpiece in a quiet, subdued way -- I love the way the music accompanies the haunting montage in the film. The theme (for this is the true theme from SPR) is really fantastic -- it has the effect of balm on frayed nerves, almost. If you listen to it a few times, you'll get to appreciate it more, I guess. It just takes awhile as opposed to the bombastic Star Wars or Harry Potter cues. I almost get goosebumps listening to this piece. Also, the brief clarinet solo halfway through is amazing (in the film, the scene where the mother falls to her knees at receiving the news) . . .
  18. I'd have to say "Saving Private Ryan." The first three tracks are amazing. Then CMIYC.
  19. I'm sorry, which track (or cue) from Jaws is so similar to "Heal The World"??? This is the first time I hear about this. And can anyone make a link to where this was discussed??? Thanks. :spiny:
  20. Well, quite honestly, what can you say about a guy who gives The Terminal 5 stars and PoA and RotS 4 stars??? He's either nuts (not to step on anybody's toes here), or he's started accepting bribes, and JW is the only one who doesn't give him any money. P.S. But I have to agree, I don't care much about his opinion, either.
  21. I don't know if you remember, but JFK was fairly controversial back in '91, at least more then what this 9/11 project would gather. Judging by the story, it only involves the two police officers, and might not have anything to do with terrorist factions or politics (though, who can tell with Stone). Williams wanted to do JFK because he "felt strongly about Kennedy". And I don't know what commitments Williams would have by Fall of next year. OotP wouldn't be released until Summer of '07 and Indy 4 doesn't look set to even start filming until later next year. Tim Well, Kennedy's assassination happened almost 30 years ago (in 1991). 9/11 happened 5 years ago. I think there's a difference, and even if it was "just" about the two police officers, people all around the world might feel strongly about such a film. It might even be publicly denounced . . .
  22. Well, I bought my first JW album (also my very first CD) when I was twelve -- Schindler's List. Now I'm 24 . . . so I've been listening to John Williams half my life, too!!! But I've known about JW even before that -- my favorite movie has been E.T. ever since I was six or so.
