  1. Christopher Nolan is a lot less pretentious than people assume he is. He's just a big showman like Cecil DeMille
  2. 1. Dark Knight 2. Oppenheimer 3. Inception 4. Tenet - a great and criminally underrated B-side Nolan film 5. Dark Knight Rises -messy but monumental and dramatically satisfying 6. Batman Begins - slow and kind of muddy looking compared to the later entries 7. The Prestige -good movie but I don't care for the twist 8. Insomnia - just a normal thriller. Not much Nolan 9. Interstellar - it's good but I still mainly see the Spielberg film that wasn't (veteran JWFanners will remember this was THE upcoming JW score). Haven't seen Dunkirk, Following, or Memento. It'd be cool if Dunkirk returned to 70mm Imax
  3. I feel like the courtroom music went very well with the vibe Nolan was going for (though in general, portraying that moment as a triumphant kind of "gotcha" moment was one of the film's few missteps for me. It makes a bit too much noise about how Oppenheimer was unfairly mistreated, despite the fact that most everything RDJ says about him is true)
  4. I feel like Villaineve's musical vision is pretty boring and sterile (Jòhann Jòhannsson's more textural work served it better than Zimmer's "big picture" type approach)
  5. It's very loud but does little for the film emotionally (unlike Oppenheimer and Zimmer's own Nolan scores).
  6. Dial of Destiny and Oppenheimer are very good and different scores
  7. Let people have fun christ None of this matters
  8. Saw the film last night. One of the best films of the last few years, maybe Nolan's very best. The juxtaposition of all the nuclear shit and RDJ and Oppenheimer's petty drama was brilliant. It didn't have memorable tunes or whatever some people here wanted but Ludwig's score was a major contributor to the film's success. He's able to use a lot of trademark Zimmerisms without just sounding like a copy of Zimmer
  9. That doesn't seem in line with the movie Kubrick made. At most maybe a producer pitched the idea at the early stages
  10. I've never heard that until now but I'm leaning towards "I don't think so".
  11. "Generic for John Williams" and "generic for Lorne Balfe" are two entirely separate planes of existence
  12. The Dial of Destiny is a boring Macguffin that doesn't make anyone want to see the movie. It's just like a National Treasure contraption
  13. Just a lot of classic Hollywood "roman" techniques like sus chords in french horn and the diminished brass stabs. The Lost World esque timpani part reminded me of Spartacus.
  14. I still take more issue with Thor's take that it doesn't sound Roman. It's pretty unmistakably Roman
  15. Fuck I want to see this in 70mm so bad. The Dallas screenings are sold out until August (except for like the 2am ones)
  16. Looks kind of boring. I'll probably pass
