  1. The menu and everything else was OK, but I remember there being something off from the moment the movie started, it had the information on the borders as you can see in the screenshot, but the film also transitioned from one aspect ratio to another and back again. There was also something wrong with the audio, and I can't say if it had deleted scenes or anything else out of the ordinary, cause after the first couple of minutes I didn't bother with the rest of the film. More than a little bummed as I was totally stoked to watch it in Hi-def. Now that I mention this, I was wrong before in saying I got a replacement copy. I know the company had to stop selling it and re-master it, but it would take time, so the store took back that faulty edition and I ordered the US remastered edition instead. I don't think I will be getting the 4K disc, as that one I have still looks damn spectacular.
  2. Oh sorry, english being a language I learned (and still learning) through movies, music, and message boards.
  3. There will be significantly more bandwidth available in the entire world for a few days.
  4. Here here ! Very well said... Essentially my thoughts as well, except Aliens was the game-changer for me. I only saw this now... What a cute tribute !
  5. I have a funny thing to tell about a European blu-ray release of The Fifth Element which was in stores for a time. Never thought it could be possible but I had gotten a workprint version of the film (very similar to the image below of The Transporter). Because that was the one being sold by a dutch blu-ray manufacturing company that isn't exactly known for its quality assurance. A few complaints later they had no choice but to remaster the disc, and send me a new copy free of charge.
  6. Well the film is in my top 10 of sci-fi films. It's as emotionally moving as it is intellectually engrossing. Also a bit of an audiovisual masterpiece in my book. The in-camera trickery is absolute genius. There's also a sense of genuine wonder in the film, from the first moments we see little Ellie contact her deceased mother through radio waves until the great interstellar journey she undertakes much later in life. Zemeckis couldn't have made a more perfect movie about what it means to be human. The Silvestri score is firing on all pistons, handling the emotion, excitement and awe, in subtle, refreshing ways. The main theme is both understated and heroic. A perfect fit for the character, without ego, but with a spirit and drive that's commendable. To remain human and humble in the face of fantastic discovery. Some interesting uses of synthesizer are found in tracks such as 'The Primer' and 'Small Moves'. These move along nicely, without coming off as cheap or cheesy. There are only two real action cues, 'Ellie's Bogey' and 'Good to Go'. Especially the latter one is riveting and tense, just as good as anything big that Silvestri can come up with in more action packed films. I also love the theme for 'I Believe Her' and it gives the whole emotional climax a meaning of its own. When all is said and done, only Ellie knows of the mystery that has befallen her. The ending isn't about the heroine's victory and that cue is just what her character needed. The final cue is a big mix-up of all the ideas that the score touched on and what a perfect way to end the (much too short) album.
  7. From Tadlow's homepage for the Salamander: "New Score & Orchestration Reconstructed by Goldsmith expert Leigh Phillips"
  8. To be fair, I haven't been excited about a David Arnold score in at least a decade. His last few Bond films didn't really appeal to me. And the last one I own is The Musketeer from 2001.
  9. And best thing of all, a total lack of mice. I hope we can expect something similar for the sequel, which recycled some material but still had some worthy music not available.
  10. Yeah, if at all possible. Who was that guy again that did the amazing job for The Salamander, translating the score as he heard it into notes?
  11. Secret of NIMH is fantastic, and too short an album. A shame that a good part of it is lost. I'd buy a complete edition in an instant.
  12. Well in this case, that fact is way more believable then when Arnold was still listed as composer. I don't get it, Devlin is the producer, he was the one that put Arnold on the forefront in 1994 with Stargate. He couldn't have been more impressed with Arnold's score and writing style. Now he wants generic mediocrity in his films? What a sellout !!!
  13. I wish I wasn't obsessive compulsive in trying to clear the map of all those annoying side quests. There is one I had to climb the giant bridge that's on the east side of the map, to get some rare light bulbs. I think I died about ten times trying to complete it, always restarting a good distance from it, not very fun. But it was cool when I finally got up there, as I got this amazing view up top, as well as genuine vertigo.
  14. Dying Light is pretty huge (in terms of quests). It's one of those games where I'm always getting sidetracked from the story missions. There's also a whole bunch of fetch quests that take some time to complete. I've barely played the campaign. Also the difficulty ramps up big time at nighttime. To the point of frustration. Those volatiles will get on your nerves Quint. Still I enjoy it, in short sessions. Zombies, man ! They're awesome... And standby mode is my friend. Fat chance.
  15. Probably, I've seen bits of it. Is it like Ben Hur? (which I love).
  16. Red Dead Redemption is the only one of those bunch I would take time to listen to. Great theme, some Morricone inspired moments (of course), just skip the crappy Undead Nightmare expansion score.
  17. I hope the storyline will be more interesting than Halo 4's, because I thought that was the only weak point. I've played it three times and I still get don't get it, apart from the MC-Cortana dynamic.
  18. Well that's good news, because that's the one I've ordered (Perseverance release). I only know the overture, and I decided to get the re-recording, because I simply had to have one iteration of Capricorn One, Goldsmith nut that I am...
  19. OMG ! Why ??? Will it be another modernized cash-in with zero charm? Most likely...
