  1. So given the current trend of movies....how long before Harry Potter gets rebooted you guys think? =P
  2. I was kinda disappointed they killed of David Thewlis offscreen. He was probably my favorite character in the series. You would think they could have put in some kind of fitting last stand moment in the battle montage or something.
  3. It makes sense why Voldemort decides to magically stab and subject to brutal, slow, and probably painful snake bites a person he trusted probably more than anyone else and could have easily killed in a painless second with Avada Kedavra? If Voldy had used avada kedavra, Snape would have been instantly killed and wouldnt have been able to give Harry his silvery tears. See? It makes perfect sense.
  4. I knew that, its just that I think the developer does have quite a bit more influence in how well (or badly) a game turns out to be. That in itself can be extremely fun, if they get the feel of the guns and movement just right. Not to mention the satisfaction of hitting an enemy (impact sounds, gore). knowing id software, this is almost a given. Doom 3 may not have had cutting edge gameplay, but boy was it incredibly satisfying to kill stuff in that game.
  5. it also makes reading (and typing, if everyone were to use them) posts rather cumbersome. i think after a while its fair to assume the majority of people reading would have seen it and its just no longer worth the trouble.
  6. I think we should ban spoiler tags on movies after 3 or 6 months. They are an annoying but necessary tool but there has to be an deadline. If this goes on soon we'll be putting '...when Rhett tells Scarlett to fuck off' in spoiler tags
  7. except Rage is made by id software. Though thats hardly a bad thing at all
  8. Where have you been? That's the rage these days! Turn '80s toys into movies! Transformers has a trilogy, the second GI Joe movie is in the works, and we all know that they can't be too far from making another Masters of the Universe movie. I posted this trailer in the future films thread months ago, but it got no response. I think it looks great. I think there is also a Battleship movie as well as a Hot Wheels movie in the works
  9. forgot to mention, said documentary also features James Garner very angry at a random frenchman...or whatever you call residents of Monaco
  10. Halfblood Prince is a good adaptation of a bad book. It doesn't rise above its source material.
  11. Not exactly Youtube, but an excellent making of documentary of John Frankenheimer's 1966 film Grand Prix, which even now still features some of the most stunning car footage ever put on the big screen. And yes, they did shoot on the race weekends at Monaco, Spa and other now unused but legendary tracks. http://www.veoh.com/watch/v343219hb3gsqqH/f1doc
  12. I really like the LOTR scores, but the CRs are really quite boring in their entirety.
  13. At the very least, it's got a 87/100 at Metacritic while Season 2 has a 84/100. But one critic says: "Unlike The Wire, the pacing is lazy." I really enjoy Treme, and it amazingly captures the feel and spirit of New Orleans incredibly effectively (having been there before). Yes, its not exactly a show with a huge sense of urgency, preferring instead to sometimes meander around.....like a jazz piece...in a good way. I find it to be less a standard tv show, and more of an experience. I can't compare it to The Wire, having not seen that yet (its on my to-do list) I've been watching a few comedies lately, Community (entertaining, but underwhelming after all the praise it gets from my friends) and BBC's Pulling (absolutely loved it).
  14. I actually really enjoy it when JW attempts an ethnic flavor.
  15. But it was a sequel with the most memorable human character from the original. Can't complain there. Human character? Please... The guy had some funny lines. He's just as cardboard as the others though. And I'm not implying these characters have to be fleshed out like Ingmar Bergman would do. Of course not. It's a different kind of film. But again; there is something fundamentally wrong when the two main characters can so easily be excluded from the sequel. There was no demand obviously to see more of Alan Grant or Ellie Sattler. That would be like - again - Star Wars II without Luke and Leia, but with Han Solo only and nobody giving a damn as long as there would be more 'spaceships'. If I had to bring someone back from the original, it would have been Jeff Goldblum. That was one of the things TLW definitely got right. Its been said before, the dinos are the stars of these movies, and the humans just have to be functional at the very least. JP does not have the best character development, but its a lot of fun and I didn't (and still don't) root for the dinos. I'd consider it a job done. And your hypothetical Star Wars II does sound like quite a bit of fun. I doubt we'd get something as highly regarded as ESB, but it could be a good time at the cinema.
  16. But it was a sequel with the most memorable human character from the original. Can't complain there.
  17. The things, as the years go by, I start to think action sequences are normally the most boring sequences of any movie. And the more recent the movie, the more this trend accentuates. Such was the case with Scott Pilgrim. I loved the fight scenes in Scott Pilgrim. They just oozed so much glee and energy
  18. I just watched DH1 myself yesterday for the first time. I thought it was quite a good movie and the best since Azkaban. However, its been a while since I read the books and it definitely felt like some important elements were glossed over making some crucial points seem contrived. Definitely much better than the (good looking) mess that was HBP.
  19. Zimmer-ish music has invaded gaming a long time ago, and I do not believe Crysis 2 is Zimmer's first game score either.
  20. If you look at it from an objective point of view, then yes you can say its very repetitive in structure. However, the world and universe is just so rich that it almost doesn't matter. And obviously, if you have the experience of playing the first this down time (relatively speaking) is very welcome as it allows you to just delve into the universe Bioware has created without the intergalactic wild goose chase/save the universe story of the first. Its all in anticipation of the third and I'm very very excited. And yes I do agree with you about CoD. The singleplayer campaigns are fun, but they are like a James Bond movie. I know if they released a Bond movie every year, I'd get sick very fast. Same thing with CoD. However its such a cash cow it will definitely be pumped out as fast as they can be. And CoD multiplayer? As an old school Quaker I can never take CoD MP seriously. Its a horrifically unbalanced mess, and I hated the idea of perks and upgrades from day one. Because I have enough games that I want to get to first? Fair enough, but it almost seemed like your original post had a tinge of distaste.
  21. why would you want to do that? The Mass Effect games are at the very least, extremely fine experiences. There are far more inane crazes out there, like the Call of Duty one, where it seems like a lot of people buy it blind regardless of quality, which then prompts even more people to buy it because 'all my friends have/play it'. again, regardless of quality.
  22. Aaaah, thats because I'm assuming you haven't played the first one and therefore, you aren't invested in the entire story. Its not a very good standalone story I admit, but I don't think its meant to be.
  23. You should. Its still a great game. And believe it or not, the cops were even more anal in the first game, you would get pulled over for running red lights. Doesn't end the game, just slows you down.
