  1. There's only 10 dragon fights in the game but they're all great. And very, very hard.
  2. It's long as balls. I'm 80 hours in and only halfway through the storyline.
  3. I don't think Jackson has lost all artistic merit but it's clear he's taken a dive since the early 2000's. Namely he's forgotten how to edit a movie, though to be honest there were early traces of that with the ending to Return of the King. I still like some of the films he's made of late, including King Kong despite it being an hour and a half too long. He's not George Lucas but he should not have made The Hobbit.
  4. There was some strong acting from most of the leads. Thorin, Gandalf, Bard, and Thranduil were very well portrayed. Out of the other dwarves Balin was great. The standout though is Martin Freeman who was perfect as Bilbo. It's a shame he gets lost among the extraneous stuff. The movies would have been immeasurably better if they focused on him as the real main character.
  5. The game poses the question at several points what the real difference is between Joel and the bad guys, particularly David. Of course he's not as bad but they're all barbarians doing what they think they must in order to survive, namely butchering a ton of people. It is also alluded to that Joel was a member of one of the roving gangs of hunters prior to the events in the story. As for the ending, it is supposed to be ambiguous and uneasy in terms of Joel's actions. And given the brutality of the gameplay throughout and the building co-dependency that forms with Ellie and Joel (informed by the original loss of his daughter) makes it an appropriate, inevitable conclusion. Also, sick Tayne avatar Mr Big.
  6. I hope the current 3D trend as a whole is petering out. It's purely a marketing fad that doesn't add much to the viewing experience in my opinion.
  7. Man you are right about that. Christmas is ruined.
  8. Got a PS4 for Christmas and was finally able to log into PSN today. I really hope Sony learns from this and beefs up their preventative measures because over three days down is just unacceptable. It's worth mentioning that what happened wasn't actually a hack. It's what's called a DDOS attack that's meant to flood the servers so much that they go down. That combined with the Christmas traffic is what caused the outage.
  9. This one felt over extended, of course, but it also somehow felt incomplete at the same time. I imagine there are a lot of important pieces that will be on the extended edition.
  10. One great movie trilogy, one not so great. I've still found some enjoyment out of The Hobbit films but it is largely because of my affection for Jackson's Rings trilogy that I have been disappointed. Those movies meant a lot to me and still do, albeit in a different way than they used to. Whereas before I preferred the gigantic spectacle of Return of the King I now prefer the smaller Fellowship, which I think is definitely the best out of all of them. Now I've gotten to the point where I'm kind of sick of Jackson's Middle-Earth and that sucks. But I'm definitely going to see The Hobbit Part 3 and at this point just have to latch on to what good is there.
  11. It will take talented people really working with the material to make something good out of it. That hasn't happened yet. Maybe the Last of Us movie will change that. Sam Raimi's behind it and the game's writer, Neil Druckmann, is writing the script. It's got promise.
  12. I'm very fortunate to have seen it in true IMAX 70mm at a theater fifteen minutes from where I live. One of less than twenty in the whole country.
  13. If it can make music, can it not be an instrument?
  14. Not jazzed about the title. It sounds like a tagline and breaks the pattern set by the previous first entries in the two trilogies. Their titles started with an article, then an adjective, and then the noun. A New Hope. The Phantom Menace. The Force Awakens doesn't fit into that pattern.
  15. Seconded. Anyone who hasn't, subscribe. Marc's another wizard of great talent.
  16. I guess I'm gonna be seeing Marvel movies for the rest of my life.
  17. It was a pretty good trailer but I wouldn't call it great, which is weird to say given how hyped it is and how enjoyable the first was.
  18. That's the biggest problem with their plan. Marvel doing the solo origin movies first gave them a safety net; if something didn't work they could recalibrate for the eventual team film. DC doesn't have that option, they're going straight for Justice League with only one prior release. If Dawn of Justice doesn't deliver they'll be in big trouble and they're current odds aren't the best given Man of Steel's shortcomings and Zach Snyder's fierce mediocrity as a director.
