  1. My thoughts: - Some here have called the melody that is repeated throughout the teaser "generic." Perhaps, but I still think it could plausibly be a Williams theme. However... - The orchestrations, at least for the most part, sound nothing like Williams. Modern trailer music house stuff has a certain style (some would call it "epic") and there are several spots where you can clearly hear this style. The maestro just does not write this way. So this is certainly not Williams music un-tampered with. - In summary, the teaser's music is definitely not composed and recorded by Williams without significant changes, but it could, I suppose, be composed by a trailer music house based off of a Williams theme. I personally think Williams had no involvement whatsoever in this teaser music -- I was hoping that we would get something similar to Hook or Harry Potter, but unfortunately Disney seems to have gone a different direction. - Several years ago we had an interesting situation where Williams had already recorded a lot of music for Tintin (back in February 2010) and yet the music heard in the Tintin teaser (released in May 2011) did not have any involvement from Williams. But when a new trailer was released in July 2011 it included a short snippet of Williams' score, and future trailers included even more. Spielberg's film's final trailers tend to feature Williams music (if the scoring sessions have already taken place) and hopefully the same will be true for The BFG. Until then, though -- if the BFG teaser did indeed not have Williams music -- it looks like we'll be waiting at least a few more months to hear the premiere of Williams' score. That moment can't come soon enough. Although we will have TFA to keep us occupied for a while .
  2. Wow. This is just excellent music from Williams. (And he looks healthy!) I've had the beginning part (with Luke's theme) stuck in my head all day.
  3. Here are the nominees for the category "Best Score Soundtrack For Visual Media" at the upcoming Grammy Awards (http://www.grammy.com/files/58thpresslist12042015-updated.pdf): You can vote in the poll for which score you think deserves the award. Unfortunately, no Williams this year, of course, but hopefully next year he'll win something for TFA.
  4. https://twitter.com/scoringsessions/status/673987923323129857: Check out AFM musician Bruce Dukov's unique take on John Williams' STAR WARS fanfare I actually haven't gotten a chance to watch the full video yet, but I did notice there's a new photo of Williams, taken at the scoring stage, near the end of the video.
  5. Perhaps Ren's theme and that of the First Order in general will be the same, similar to how the Imperial March was Vader's theme and also often used for the Empire in general. We already know from the Making Star Wars report that there is a march for the First Order in the film, and it seems far-fetched to think that when Ren is shown he will get his own unique theme, while every First Order scene without him will have the march.
  6. It just aired. I was kind of disappointed in it. By the way, there was some new music, but it sounded like generic trailer stuff. Luckily, the spot did not utilize that terrible version of the Force theme that's been used a lot recently. There was some "Yoda and the Force" in the spot
  7. Possibly. But, then again, they've never been very specific. They always call the clips "special looks," whether they are clips directly from the film, TV spots, or a full trailer. Anyway, I'm trying not get my hopes up too much in case there's no new Williams stuff, but I'd certainly be ecstatic if there was.
  8. http://makingstarwars.net/2015/12/new-preview-for-star-wars-the-force-awakens-to-air-on-abc-family-this-sunday/ https://www.facebook.com/ShadowhuntersSeries/videos/533869310122606/ Apparently an "exclusive special look" at TFA will be aired tonight on ABC Family. Could there be some new Williams music? This is all just speculation of course, but I'm still kind of expecting Disney to release a music video or something similar, like they did with the prequels. If they're going to do that, this would seem like about the right time.
  9. He's presumably referring to one of those recent TV spots -- not the full length trailer. He said in the original post that he was watching TV and, "They broadcast a tv trailer for the upcoming STAR WARS."
  10. Perhaps this is common knowledge around here, but Conrad Pope just confirmed on his Facebook that he was not involved in the production of the Force Awakens score (bolding is mine): https://www.facebook.com/conrad.pope/posts/10207402507493840?comment_id=10207402953264984&reply_comment_id=10207403075308035&comment_tracking=%7B%22tn%22%3A%22R9%22%7D
  11. I really wish I could be in Lucerne this weekend. Alas, all I can do is post pictures from Twitter. Here's another photo someone posted from the event:
  12. This comes from someone (Armen Ksajikian) who, based on their posting history, seems to work at the Sony Scoring Stage. So they're probably pretty reliable. Ksajikian was replying to these two posts: Great to see all these positive reviews. I believe we haven't yet seen a single negative review of the score. Saved for later... I suppose it is possible that for those working on the recording of the score, most of the modern film music is so low quality that Williams' stuff, even not at his best, sounds incredible to them and that's why we're getting all these positive reviews.
  13. I found this in the comments on Pope's post, referring to Williams' TFA score (https://www.facebook.com/conrad.pope/posts/10207402507493840?comment_id=10207402953264984&reply_comment_id=10207403075308035&comment_tracking=%7B%22tn%22%3A%22R9%22%7D): This comes from someone (Armen Ksajikian) who, based on their posting history, seems to work at the Sony Scoring Stage. 14. Well. First I believed that Amazon France tracklist. Then I started thinking it was fake. Now, with all the digital pre-orders showing 23 tracks, I think it's real again. Luckily, the confusion will be cleared up in only a couple weeks.

  16. Don't know if this was already posted, but here's a photo of the percussion section at the TFA recording sessions: https://mobile.twitter.com/DougAdamsMusic/status/669548275708665856
  17. True. After December 18 the music will surely become the focus and all of us will forget about album covers, credits, etc. The only reason some (like myself) are focusing on those small things is to pass the time in the absence of score (of course, other than those 15 seconds from the AMA clip).
  18. Yeah, it would be cool if they featured something like that, or this:
  19. You're right, the composed and conducted credit is much better. I agree that the music by credit diminishes the maestro's work, in a way.
