  1. The Killing Of Marcel is my favorite track. Very haunting and unique, excellent use of instruments and other effects.
  2. You made me realize how few masters are left. Let them live forever through their music. I don't expect John Williams to go much farther than The Deathly Hallows, if he does end up composing it. So let's hope for a nomination and win from whichever of the following: Indiana Jones IV, Lincoln, Interstellar, and Harry Potter And The Deathly Hallows. Has Williams received a lifetime achievement award from the Academy yet?
  3. I gasped when I heard it on the news while getting ready for school this morning. In memoriam, I listened to his music all day.
  4. I mentioned The Thing a few posts up, it's in a list of my favorites. Excellent score, haunting and eccentric, the way Morricone does best.
  5. Someone stole my topic, I had a Morricone thread and now I can't find it. Oh well this one seems more successful so I'll go along with it. I completely agree with the post quoted from IMDb, Ennio Morricone is the greatest composer of all time. I was shocked to read a post in my thread that said I've only heard The Mission and The Untouchables. The man is a genius, plain and simple. I enjoy nearly every John Williams score, but I enjoy EVERY Ennio Morricone score. My favorites...Once Upon A Time In America, The Good The Bad And The Ugly, A Fistful Of Dollars, The Mission, Two Mules For Sister Sara, Once Upon A Time In America, For A Few Dollars More, The Untouchables, Days Of Heaven, etc. etc. EDIT: Oops!! Seems my thread was molded with this one, apologies from before.
  6. Are you implying that he's not a great composer because of my comment? I don't quite understand. I have not heard all 300+ of his scores, because about half are for Italian films not released in the U.S. As for his films and scores released in America, I have heard most of them, and yes, they are all magnificent. If I wasn't so loyal to John Williams he would be the #1 composer of all time, IMO.
  7. The Mission is very beautiful and touching, but he has 300+ scores that are all magnificent. A Fistful Of Dollars For A Few Dollars More The Good, The Bad And The Ugly Once Upon A Time In The West Once Upon A Time In America Duck, You Sucker Il Mercenario The Thing Two Mules For Sister Sara Days Of Heaven The Untouchables ...to name my favorites.
  8. The only time I've heard Williams repeat himself is with Prisoner Of Azkaban and Munich. It's a subtle 5 second cue that's only on the 2-Disc Expanded Score of HP. It can be heard toward the end of the film where everyone is found in the shrieking shack.
  9. Not sure if this has been made or not, but from the time I've been here I haven't seen his name mentioned at all. So let's begin discussing what I believe to be the second greatest composer ever!!
  10. These polls aren't as popular as I would have hoped...oh whell... Here are James Newton Howard's Top 5 scores: 1. The Village 2. Signs 3. Lady In The Water 4. Dinosaur 5. The Fugitive Runner-up: Atlantis: The Lost Empire
  11. After what seems all the votes this topic is gonna get, let's make the final five! Here are Danny Elfman's Top 5 scores: 1. Edward Scissorhands 2. The Nightmare Before Christmas 3. Batman 4. Batman Returns 5. Beetlejuice Runner-up: Corpse Bride
  12. I just searched iTunes and it's there. Purchased and downloaded immediately, I had no idea this was coming out so soon. Happy surprise
  13. 1. The Village 2. Signs 3. Big Trouble 4. Lady In The Water 5. The Fugitive

  15. Yes it is, beautiful piece of work. I have that cue along with the Reqiuem For A Dream score. The score is something amazing and is one of my favorite soundtracks because I can listen to every track. It's a mix of John Williams and Harry Gregson-Williams elements, making it truly unique. As for Lux Aeterna, despite it's use in about 50% of trailers, is still an excellent composition. Although I don't think Clint Mansell originally composed it, I think it was Mozart. Mansell is actually a terrible composer, more of the rock-metal side similar to Tyler Bates, which explains why the score has a John Williams side and a Harry Gregson-Williams side.
  16. Exactly, I knew everyone would immediately click Hook or Cutthroat Island, so I decided to give Hansy a little credit. Muppet Treasure Island has some great music, some of Zimmer's best. It has hints of Hook in it, with some preludes to a developing Pirates Of The Caribbean theme. If we've voting on Pirate scores, where the hell is Pirates Of The Caribbean and Peter Pan?
  17. I was into rap and heavy metal for a period of my early life before I got into film scores, but now I despise the stuff. Now I'll switch day-by-day between film scores and classic rock. Favorite Composers: John Williams, Ennio Morricone, James Newton Howard, Danny Elfman, Michael Giacchino, John Powell, Harry Gregson-Williams, Hans Zimmer, Thomas Newman, and Eric Serra. Musical Artitsts: Bob Dylan, Pink Floyd, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, David Bowie, Elton John, The Who, The Doors, Santana, Creedence Clearwater Revival...
  18. Great votes so far. I'm going to wait until we can get some more posts, then make a final Top 5, which we can all agree to be Elfman's best work.
  19. 1.) The Nightmare Before Christmas 2.) Edward Scissorhands 3.) Big Fish 4.) Batman 5.) Beetlejuice
  20. I forgot to mention Holst. The Planets are definitely at the top. My favorite would be Mars, who would guess coming from a HZ fan.

  22. Best: Air Force One Worst: Hollow Man Although I'm not that big of a Jerry Goldsmith fan.
  23. We are one and the same. Glad I read your post because I would have said the same thing word for word. I own over 400 DVDs, all of them are in perfect condition and organized in a closet. I rarely let anyone borrow them, and when I do there is always a bad result. I lent my Limited Edition DVD of Munich to my uncle, he returned it and the case was squished and creased, I was upset. My CD's are all in perfect condition, I never buy anything used unless it is rare and out of print, in which I would only buy it if it's in pristine condition. I use the CD once, only to import the music onto my computer which in turn I put it on my iPod. Then I store it nicely on a shelf and can happily say I own it. I hate it when I buy CDs from Varese and find I paid $6 for them to ship my CDs in a thin cardboard case with no bubble wrap. My Heartbeeps and Home Alone 2 inserts are creased.
  24. This poll is too general, needs to be more specific. Instead of fantasy/sci-fi, do a poll for each. I picked Prisoner Of Azkaban, one of the few scores I can listen to every track.
  25. I'm not too familiar with classical music, but I love Bethoven, Mozart, Bach, Tchaikovsky, Caruso, etc. Basically anything used in a Woody Allen film, that man has good taste.
