  1. SG1 - Started great! Ended stupid. SGA - Started good. Got much better! Was canceled right when it began to be really good. SGU - Started kind of iffy. Has progressed firmly downhill in every episode so far.
  2. A few off the top of my mind that haven't been mentioned yet: The Adventures of Pluto Nash The Bridge to Terabithia I loved The Happening. I strongly disagree with its message, but it's a very well done film. Although, the score (other than the awesome end credits suite) is really dull IMO.
  3. One theme of his that I really wouldn't have expected to like as much as I do is the Waltz from Princess Diaries.
  4. Every single score I've heard from him has been a pastiche of someone else's style. However, he does those pastiches so well, that I still enjoy listening to them. My favorites from him are Cutthroat Island (even though it sounds like a David Arnold space/alien score) and Lair (even though half of it sounds like like Star Wars).
  5. As a Powell fan, I do think it sounds great by itself, but it definately sounds better after seeing it. For someone who has never listened to a Powell score, I would recommend it that way. So, why don't you want to see Paycheck, Koray? I love that movie!
  6. Ah, excellent score. Although, have you seen the movie? It's one of those scores that won't sound nearly as good until after you've heard it in context. It's a great movie too.
  7. To me, that just sounds like humor. Plus it is true. Whether or not you like MV/RCP stuff (in many cases I do) there's really no denying the fact that they use a whole fleet of people for every score.
  8. I'm not sure what you guys are talking about? The site seemed fine (and quite useful) to me. It's written in somewhat of an editorialized style, but I really didn't see any bias there.
  9. Are you serious? That is an awesome Elfman score! No idea about the status of Danna's score though.
  10. I will certainly agree that there are some "individual moments" of brilliance throughout. They just aren't long enough and there aren't enough of them. Which is why the suite at the end works so well. It ties all the individually brilliant cues together into one full fantastic piece.
  11. ET has a fantastic main theme and end credits. The rest is unbearably slow and boring (although it works well in the movie).
  12. "Reach for the Stars" from Richard Harvey's Fantasia. It's an awesome piece, but it particularly holds sentimental value because I spent such a long time trying to find out what it was. I first heard in a trailer for The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles at the beginning of a VHS for Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade. I watched that trailer over and over as a kid and loved the music, but I didn't know what it was. Finally (at around the time I started using the Internet), I began an all-out search to determine the origin of the piece. It took me about five years to find it, and another three to actually acquire a CD of it (which incidentally happenned just a few weeks ago). So, "Reach for the Stars" easily wins for most sentimental value simply because of the extreme ammount of time and effort I poured into finding it.
  13. Hmm, haven't heard anything about this, but I have heard that he's definately planning to release 3D versions of the current six films. I'm looking forward to that.
  14. Finally got a chance to watch this. Absolutely fantastic!
  15. Don't forget this one: http://www.amazon.com/Battlestar-Galactica-Richard-Gibbs/dp/B0001BS4SS/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=music&qid=1255804860&sr=8-1
  16. As I recall (from the movie, haven't listened separately), it sounds a lot like Giacchino's Lost. Or rather Lost sounds a lot like There Will Be Blood? Not sure which came first.
  17. The game was also based on the book, and it borrowed parts of McNeely's book soundtrack (as well as parts of the ESB soundtrack) for the game soundtrack.
  18. What other book soundtracks are there, and are they any good?
  19. Did you read the whole thread or just korays' first post? Because your statement makes very little sense. That was actually just intended as a joke, but I guess it didn't transfer well in text.
  20. Well, I wasn't born until three years after BTTF came out, so no I did not see it then, but I did see a re-screening of it at a drive-in theater a few years ago (along with the DeLorean Motor Club of Maryland).
  21. This is an easy one for me - Back to the Future. I don't know if I could really pinpoint an exact reason why though. Sure, the dialog is hilarious and just plain brilliant at times. Yes, the soundtrack is fantastic. Certainly, the depth of the characters is wonderful. And of course the prominent featuring of my favorite car helps. But none of those really make it my favorite. It just has this certain unexplainable quality about it that makes me love it. I have watched it far more times than any other movie, but I simply can't get tired of it.
  22. Ha! Somehow I would not put that beyond the realm of possibility (although it probably is false). He's credited for Deathly Hallows.
