John Williams & Berliner Philharmoniker 14th/15th/16th Oct 2021
Steve replied to MaxTheHouseelf's topic in JOHN WILLIAMS
I think the BR Orchestra is a bit overrated. But lists are lists. Who cares 😄 -
Yes, true. We will likely never know when he conducted big bands in concert before his orchestra career. He said himself that these '78 concerts were like a starting point in his career as a public conductor of symphony orchestras.

1978/07/28 John Williams conducts the LA Philharmonic, Hollywood Bowl 1978/07/29 John Williams conducts the LA Philharmonic, Hollywood Bowl These were the first concerts he conducted in the Hollywood Bowl and some of his very first public concerts. Source:https://www.latimes.com/archives/la-xpm-1998-aug-06-ca-10429-story.html Another suggestion regarding the concert-category: It should differentiate between a full concert and a guest appearance e.g. when he conducted the two encores on 2023/08/11 it is a guest appearance rather than a concert. Also since 2014 he had a co-conductor in many concerts. So maybe it should be differentiated between: Concert, Co-Concert, Guest Appearance.

Great concert. I hope they will release it on Blue Ray. Not sure how much was edited afterwards. I think the performances were mostly very good. Nice to see Gabor Tarkovi on principal trumpet, he was former principal trumpet of the Berlin Philharmonic. I liked the version of Schindler's List, however I found the violin sounded a bit like an electric violin. Yeah Williams looking like his age, which is ok. Still amazing that he can fly to Japan to conduct a concert like this.

Mike Matessino: "At least 5" new Williams releases due this year

Didn't Intrada say they had a "couple" JW releases in the pipeline? I wonder if one will be released this year. It's about time. -

Wow, that's just laughable. They could easily have sold 10,000 units or even more if available at Amazon. -
Ok, Fawkes was recorded and released from Vienna II. Makes four pieces. I would welcome and surely buy it. But I can also see a Japan only release. Let's see! At least we have the stream. Btw I wouldn't mind another recording of Far and Away. However the Berlin verison is hard to top, if even possible.

Just ordered for 29.75 $ Estimated shipping date; 18th October (hopefully 2023) Estimated shipping time: 7-21 days. Maybe it will arrive before christmas -
The Fury. I bought the varese Album on eBay recently and can't stop listening to it. Tried to get the Lalaland too but it's almost impossible to get. While I also enjoy Dracula, it's a bit too monothematic for my taste. Maybe I should give it another listen.

Why can't they just let everyone pre-order who is interested and then press the requested number of dics? This is really laughable for such a big company. -
Good work. Some suggestions: It would be useful to add the name of the orchestra in the concert category. It would also make sense to differentiate between concerts conducted by other conducters and Williams himself (e.g. concert premiers by Slatkin). I will post many concert additions later today or this week.

Thanks! So it is the shorter verison. It is cut twice if I remember correctly.
