  1. Oh I’ve pondered. It’s hard to channel all my excitement into the specific coherent questions. Also, I asked earlier about the track listing and it seems like everyone is waiting until the podcast airs or the set arrives to answer. So I didn’t ask anything else. But yes, I'm certainly curious about it.
  2. The Lost World didn’t because it would have needed to be a three CD set, which would have made it more expensive and probably harder to put out. I think Danny Elfman probably insisted on Spider-Man which is why that happened.
  3. I’m personally praying for Nixon, but I’m happy when any John Williams score gets released or expanded. I’ll buy The Patriot just like I buy all the others. So don’t worry, Patty, there’s room for you on the shelf next to all your brothers and sisters. There’s Ami, she’s new, she’s still getting used to things, too. You gals’ll be fast friends.
  4. Oh red definitely is. Red white and blue just maybe isn’t. Once they decided to go with something more blue in the background color, I think the red had to go so it didn’t look patriotic of some kind.
  5. Hmm. Like I said, it’s been a while since I’ve listened to it. I clearly need to spin this set again.
  6. Oh I completely agree about Cluyten v Karajan. Karajan’s wall of sound sometimes impresses me very much I love a lot of his recordings and his Beethoven is fine but I prefer something a little more rugged and cut of the earth than something striving for aural perfection. Re: Immerseel, I don’t think the tempi are ever faster than Beethoven’s written tempi but I could be wrong about that. It’s been a minute since I’ve listened to this cycle. Or do you mean moments where the orchestra is out of time with itself?
  7. Cluyten’s cycle is indeed great. I’m rather fond of the whole Szell cycle although the 9th is the greatest of his. I also think Bernstein has a decent one. Wyn Morris has a highly underrated one as does Kubelik. Immerseel’s is certainly interesting. HIP but with leeway.
  8. I may be too excited to be objective but I LOVE the cover. I never thought I’d have a Blue Hook Ultimate Edition. I hope someone reveals in that podcast that it’s a purposeful reference to TPM set because that’s honestly too good. I suspect that it may just be that red white and blue didn’t feel like Hook’s color palette. Personally, it took me by surprise in the best way.
  9. The fact that this is the second blue John Williams Ultimate Edition has to be a coincidence, right? But honestly the blue truly is very striking. Not the direction I’d have ever thought to go but it makes you feel the absence of the red which is kind of classy somehow if that means sense don’t make me explain it because I cannot AND I love that it is called the Ultimate Edition. That’s just so perfect. My playlists have always been called that so this feels almost personal. And I know it’s because the people who worked on this score are fans and clearly love it very much like we do and it shows with little things like that. Big thanks.
  10. Dorati!!! I love listening to different versions of the same work. This is what got me into classical music. I wish we got more recordings of film music. I love the Gerhardt Star Wars albums. It can make music sound so crisp and fresh; to hear it played just slightly differently than before. If I want to listen to a version of Beethoven’s Fifth, I can choose a version that supports my vision of the work, even if that vision changes by the hour. Do I want a historically informed performance that follows Beethoven’s metronome markings to the letter, a performance that takes his suggestions but utilizes plenty of rubato, or of course I could listen to a performance that throws the playbook at the window, like the Boulez. I love this. It gets even more interesting when you find works that have choices to be made like Mahler’s Sixth.
  11. I’m curious how the different sections are divided. Additional music are album versions? Bonus tracks are…? I’m certain the booklet will have this information too I’m just curious it also could be in this thread somewhere. I haven’t had time to read it every thing properly
  12. I’m honestly squeezing out happy tears as I have already ordered. 285470 I may have it tattooed. I had a feeling it was coming. I really can’t begin to describe how happy I am. I didn’t want to order more than one thing in the cart because I want it to come as soon as possible with no hold ups. I will order everything else in a minute. Idc about shipping costs. Not today. It’s the day we’ve been waiting for, believers. And it’s beautiful.
  13. I’m thinking this is going to push the timeline back on getting actual complete Indys and that’s the biggest negative for me. I also think that they should have included the original three albums, especially if they weren’t going to include the fifth Concorde disc. It would have helped justify the price point considering how hard to find they are and how cheap the individual Concorde discs are in comparison
  14. I’m excited and hopeful for this year’s batch to be something special but every year is great in its own way. I’m not worried.
  15. I will buy this CD just to support Franglen and because it was way better than any of us expected it to be. It deserves to be on the shelf. One of the best surprises of recent years is just how good this score is.
  16. It does have a slightly different sound; a little Stalling-esque, maybe. If that’s true, it is almost a dark extension of the video demonstration music. The dinosaurs are alive and have come through the screen to eat you! (Which besides being just what happens in the movie, the raptors sort of actually do this in the kitchen sequence when the raptors appear behind drawings of themselves.) I know I’m reaching a little here but when you make smart, intelligently structured art, connections form you may not even have been aware of yourself when writing. Anyway, that’s my head canon. Hungry Raptor is the score’s Stalling Around sound taken to its violent conclusion. Whether he did it on purpose or whether it was just all floating around in his head doesn’t much matter
  17. I can’t wait to hear all five versions of Reunion in Boston.
  18. I just picked this up. I can’t wait to hear the complete score! I’ve always loved the album presentation. I thought I owned it but I guess it was another one of the CDs that was lost in that move. But it was an important score to me growing up so I’ve gotta have it. I’ve been buying a lot of scores from the labels recently. Very excited for Black Friday this year
  19. That’s all I needed to know: Order #279130 I just missed it before so I wanted to make sure I grabbed it right away this time. I also made sure I got Jurassic Park and I threw in Saving Private Ryan. I don’t own it yet and I want to support the label.
  20. I think at his age the man has a right to write whatever music he likes. If all he ever writes are more ASM arrangements, huzzah. I have no expectations for him to ever write another thing honestly and haven’t for a while. We are spoiled in this era of his life. Although I will of course be grateful when we inevitability do get more.
