  1. Oh yeah, Timeline; I'd like that. But please in connection with a better movie that actually captures the spirit of the novel (where did all the money go to in Donner's film?)
  2. Although I would have liked to hear Williams' approach to Dune (maybe for the upcoming (?) Peter Berg version ;-)), I absolutely love Toto's work. It's in fact pretty much the only (mostly) electronical score I deeply enjoy (unlike such atrocities as Tangerine Dream's "Legend" or Moroder's "Neverending Story" (how good there were decent alternatives...). Otherwise, there was a rumor once that Spielberg/Lucas were trying to get the rights for LOTR when the widely unknown Jackson announced his plans. Back then I was really hopeful to hear a Williams score, but I guess we received quite a satisfactory Shore score instead. But an interesting thought it is, no doubt... As for Ladyhawke, yeah, you're right.
  3. That pretty much sums it up for me. I have often wished that Obi-Wan would have played Qui-Gon's role (maybe Neeson demanded more screen time ;-) ?) and that Anakin would have been more at the age level of, say, John Connor in Terminator 2, so that his podracer and starfighter adventures would have been much more believable and at the same time it would still have been very understandable that he doesn't want to leave his mother behind in the hands of slave traders. I would argue you can miss your only close relative even if you are already a teenager.... And we would probably have seen an actor who actually could have... well... acted (no guarantee there, though, given some of Lucas' choices). I do also agree that certain elements were just there to impress without having much function. I particularly dislike the scale of the podrace... I mean, it's a harsh backwater planet, but in TPM it actually looks like Disneyland, crowded with tourists. Just doesn't convey the feeling of Tatooine for me. Still, I do enjoy watching it (ignoring most of Anakin's, Jar Jar's, and Nute Gunray's dialog :-)). It just could have been a lot better...
  4. I found an inexpensive copy of "Return to OZ" by David Shire; I'm looking forward to this, remember it to be quite nice.
  5. I like the chase music parts of the cue and the A theme moment mentioned, but I'm also very fond of the full motive of the cross of Coronado and the iconical moment when Indy takes up the whip. I love how emotional that short version of the A theme is, and how it merges with the cross motive afterwards...
  6. Recently bought it. I gave it a 3,5. It's a nice score, but really more a compilation of his older fantasy (and other) themes than an original composition. Incredible that Horner doesn't even attempt to conceal his reuse of tunes....
  7. There are several statements of the A theme in Indy's very first adventure from LC (all of them in the section only recently released) that I really enjoy. I particularly like the ones when young Indy picks up the whip and when he receives the fedora. I also like the variations in Map/out of fuel from TOD, as well as many others...
  8. i hate that cue .It's the same thing played over and over for 3 minutes .No shred of cue development I agree. I've never been impressed by the score; quite uninspired and boring imo. But this one cue is furthermore extremely schmaltzy; I actually consider it annoying. Guess taste is really nothing to argue about :-) Swimming from Water Horse is on my list of extremely good pieces that I can listen to over and over again. Others would be The Blue Planet from (surprise) The Blue Planet by George Fenton, Buckbeaks Flight, Father's Study, Journey to the Island from Jurassic Park, Prologue and Main Title from Dune (Toto), Cerebro (or whatever the cue was called) from X-men 2, Discovery of the Treasure from CutThroat Island, etc, etc...
  9. Although I know about its flaws, I really like the movie a lot. There is something about all these unique early 80's movies... And I love the soundtrack. The prologue is so beautiful, perfectly fitting the introduction by Princess Irulan. The whole score is full of strange ideas that for some reason work in the movie, like the electronic baroque music for Baron Harkonnen. I only wish David Lynch would have had three hours or more to tell his story; maybe it would have made more sense to the audience. The TV version has interesting new scenes, but is awfully edited...
  10. Good idea; did the same thing recently with Matrix Reloaded, but paid less for a new and sealed copy at Amazon market place ;-)
  11. I can really recommend the Matrix DE CD. There are some nice new pieces; definitely worth listening...
  12. Received my Batman TAS CDs yesterday. Didn't really have much time to listen to them yet, but it sounds pretty good...
  13. Okay, let's see.... 1) Main Theme from Jurassic Park 2) Island Theme from Jurassic Park 3) Anakin's Theme 4) Across the Stars 5) Force Theme 6) Imperial March 7) Emperor's Theme 8) Grail Theme 9) Ark Theme 10) Buckbeak's Theme Well, nothing off-mainstream here, but the classics are imo always the best...
  14. I voted for Jurassic Park (and I mean both principal themes); I think I like the grail theme from LC and the Star Wars force theme at least as much as the JP themes, however. The Superman theme never really grew on me for some reason...
  15. Oh, I couldn't resist to buy the Golden Voyage of Sinbad (always wanted that, and it even is the cheapest of the bunch). But it is interesting that they chose to fully release that score, when the older (quite lengthy) score album is still readily available. Oh, now I see why it was cheaper: no limited edition...
  16. That's an easy one; I always liked the ROTS score (at least much better than AOTC), and while KOCS is also not bad, it can't compete.
  17. Managed to win the limited edition of "Godzilla" at ebay for a reasonable price (and I hope I don't end up with a bootleg :spiny: ) Looking forward to listening to it...It's largely new to me (since I usually can't bear to sit through the movie; it's soooo bad...)
  18. :spiny: Thought you would agree ; However, I was thinking, isn't it amazing how Bond manages to put on the full Clown's costume and elaborate make-up (seen in your Avatar) in less than 2 minutes; 5 minutes before the atomic bomb is set to explode? Only Bond can do things like that...
  19. Golden Compass. Had to listen to it a couple of times, but now I start to really enjoy it....
  20. I don't have as much time for watching movies as I would like, but I still do it frequently; saw all Indy movies recently, a couple of Bond and Harry Potter movies, and the Lord of Rings films are next. I admittedly sometimes play them in the background when I'm busy, but I usually really try to pay attention and really enjoy them (and their music).
  21. I watched Octopussy and For your eyes only yesterday...my favorite Roger Moore Bond movies
  22. There are many, and they are impossible to rank. Some of my favorites are the Final duel and Funeral pyre/Light of the force cues of ROTJ, Imperial probe and City in the clouds of Empire, the beginning of Confrontation with Count Dooku and Finale in AOC, Arrival at Coruscant in TPM, and, of course, Parade of the Ewoks.
  23. Second that. But maybe it was because I had "job interest" in his lengthy discussions of evolutionary theory... The end of it is admittedly much better than the first half (and why could Spielberg not simply elaborate on that instead of going to San Diego with us?)
  24. As far as I remember it was one of these Q episodes. Q loved to annoy the Crew by decorating them in that way...
  25. I will give it a try, just not now. The only Chrichton book that ever disappointed me was "State of Fear."
