  1. Is there a set criteria for you whether a movie should be 3D or not?
  2. You could say the same thing about film scores in general.
  3. It's rushed, the characters are retreading ground from the first movie, and Perlman's acting is awkwardly different in many of the scenes. The first one's got problems, too and I can't really say why I like it more. Also, while Doug Jones IS Abe Sapien, I still vastly prefer David Hyde Pierce. Yeah, you've got it.
  4. started watching Hellboy 2 but it got boring so I turned it off. I'll watch it all the way through for the commentary, but... it's just not as good as the original for me (the original wasn't perfect but it was enjoyable). Proceeded to watch Speed Racer all the way through, and enjoyed it again. I am amazed at how many reviewers didn't get this movie.
  5. Love the score for Master and Commander, but Daybreakers didn't impress me really apart from the percussive parts.
  6. I just watched it again and I don't think it being episodic is a detriment.
  7. Daybreakers Bleh. It presents interesting concepts and questions but doesn't follow through with them. Nothing remarkable or memorable, including the score which had been hyped here. Lots of bad cgi, too.
  8. No. I love everything about the movie, script included, up until they pull over and Bobby yells at the passing Army trucks, then it starts to go downhill. The boat scene is great but the movie never hits the highs it has in the beginning.
  9. Academy politics aside, Avatar deserves a nomination because it provided a theater experience unlike any film in a long time.
  10. Interview with Hans on the score at AICN As always, he gives a good interview.
  11. Imaginarium of Dr Parnassus and The Hurt Locker are both available for download on iTunes
  12. It is strange, for it is one of the few Horner CD's I can listen to from start to finish, where I don't feel its gargantuan running time. This has been true for me, too. I've listened to it straight through more times already than all of his other scores that I have (which aren't that many, really).
  13. Master and Commander is probaly my favorite movie of the decade.
  14. and now my enjoyment of the movie is ruined. Wait. No it isn't.
  15. Necessary concessions for beings that we are supposed to empathize with. If they deviate too much from humans then it gets really hard.
  16. Gangs of New York falls apart at the end for me right around that last fight. I haven't watched it all the way through in one sitting for a while though so maybe I need to do that again.
  17. I've been listening to the score a lot since seeing the film and I agree with what Clemmensen said at the end of his review.
  18. Just saw it, really liked it and I don't have much more to add to what's already been said here. Cameron's right in that the next step for 3D is to up the frame rate. This may not change the face of cinema but the tech behind this is pretty revolutionary.
  19. Zimmer would have SO better! Intense muscle-pumping action every minute that doesn't take a break for boring trivialities like harmony. No way! It's all about gut-crunching intensity. Whoah. Everything he scores is like automatically badass and great and can beat up sixty dinosaurs before breakfast. And that's super-boss since c'mon, dinosaurs suck. I mean I COULD listen to other composers BUT I could also buy a Hans Zimmer score and get a full train of sweetness crashing with ANGER like some kind of angertrain. He COULD use other chord structures, but why would he want to? I mean look at his scores, the more people he hires on the album, the more he buffs up to awesome. And Zimmer NEVER holds back with those power chords, every time I hear them it's like being slammed through puberty again - twice. You might say 'bad technique.' I say 'Kicking so much ass in EVERY direction with each note, being badass doesn't leave you TIME to obey the rules.'
  20. Brad Bird has Giacchino's son make a documentary of the scoring process. It's only on the Blu Ray as far as I know
