  1. When I was younger I used to always love the 'Journey to the Island' since I saw Jurassic Park. And as it was impossible to avoid hearing the Star Wars main title some way or another I found myself humming it incessantly. But the thing that made me stop every time someone said "John" and "Williams" in the same sentence was hearing 'Hedwig's Theme' on the Philosopher's Stone trailer. Since then my collection has increased substantially, and after buying the albums it's fascinating to see how after all those years of forgetting music from his movies I saw as a child it all comes rushing back to meet me. I'm talking specifically of the 'Hook' soundtrack, the last time I saw that movie before I got the album was nine years beforehand.
  2. I said Harry Potter. When I first heard Hedwig's Theme before the movie came out, I was 13 and I fell in love with it instantly. This really got me into JW's music, but I hate saying that because I've missed out on so much before that time. Plus I'd harldy consder myself much of a fan compared to everyone here. Then again, I'm still young. *Waits for several members the same age or younger to post sophisticated messages* I'm really looking foward to POA, moreso than Ep. III.
  3. Hmmm, the link doesn't work. How do I access it?
  4. Lol, I was just kidding. I knew what you meant. His Independence Day score was magnificent and I agree with you.
  5. Do the James Bond films count as political? Ridiculously exaggerated politics, but still.
  6. Yes, but the idea of the score is to add and bring out what is happening on-screen. The ones for these movies are too soft to give the same effect.
  7. I've listened to my soundtracks so much I can Identify where there are noises when I watch the movies. Towards the end of 'Dueling the Basilisk' in CoS you can hear a muffled yell, or something that sounds like it. It's in the last minute or so. If I listen to it again soon I'll say where. Also in 'The Dueling Club' my paranoid ear picked up a clicking jound, like Williams hitting his baton on something to signal an instrument or something.
  8. Wow, that's exactly what I thought. In my Drama class at school we're preparing a non-naturalistic ensemble task, with use of lighting and soundtrack. That exact track was one of the examples of using soundtrack. That was only the other day. I think The Raptor Attack from Jurassic Park is the most intense and creepy action cue I've heard. I know this will sound completely stupid and pathetic, but when I was little I was completely obsessed with Inspector Gadget (the cartoon). After my giant music appreciation explosion I tried looking for the music from the cartoon, and recently found it. Some of the pieces creeped me out when I was little, and they still do now. Hey, I'm only 15 so I'm allowed to talk about my childhood!
  9. Well, the Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (PoA) teaser trailer is set to come out in November with the new Looney Toons movie. I'd rather it be on something I'm actually going to see, like Matrix: Revolutions, but it might.
  10. I hate to annoy anybody here, but I'm new and was wondering where to get (or where it was posted) this 'bootleg copy' of the PS score? What I'm certainly convinced of is the theme that Marian calls the "Slytherin" theme is what he called "Nimbus 2000". I don't want to get into what the theme is, it's already in another PS thread.
  11. The theme you are all talking about, ait's called "Nimbus 2000". I know that at one of his concerts a piece was played, and that was what it was called, however I wasn't there so I don't know if it's the same one I'm talking about. For those people (myself for instance) who purchased the Philosopher's Stone and/or Chamber of Secrets piano book know that one of the pieces is called "Nimbus 2000", the staccato piece heard in the second half of Hedwig's Theme. I'm hoping it's that one, anyway. Williams called it the theme to Harry's broom so I'm guessing it's supposed to be the main flying theme in the scores. Hence nearly every time you see an owl this theme is played. But it's also used in comic, bumbling instances. The obvious, Neville's Squib-like nature and behaviour and Crabbe and Goyle's comedic stupidity. It's fitting for the Dursley's idiocy also. To previous posts about the sloppiness of the score heard in CoS I think there are several cues/pieces which were fantastic but not heard in either album. The castle-panning blasts and Ollivander's theme, used for Hermione's petrified state in CoS were excellent, but alas, maybe the next album (a full-release would be even better). I also loved the choir vocals and use of the 'Chamber' theme when the messages on the wall appeared. In the movie the score is very rushed, like in this instane but would benefit from a release on album, as these parts would be extended. It happens a lot in movies when sound effects drown out music to hide the fact that five seconds of it have been cut out. That's what the sloppiness in the movie score was mainly. I would have ranted on some more, but it would have gone too far away from the topic: How Good Is The Philoshopher's Stone Score?
  12. I'm not sure where I read/heard it from, but I think the score has to have at least 70-75% of completely new score. Two Towers was borderline for a Nomination, but dumped after Chamber of Secrets was too, and the fact it won the award the previous year. I'm stuck between wanting the sequel scores to win Oscars, and I still want to hear the old themes again! Well, the Oscars are going to the dogs, it's not much to lose if he isn't nominated. Out of 35-40 deserving scores, five were awarded to John. Go figure!
  13. I know what you mean! I was part-disappointed when it wasn't even used in the Dueling the Basilisk scene, although I absolutely loved it anyway. Another reason why I'd like a full release of the score for the two movies, the Chamber motive only made it to two tracks (not including the concert one). I never thought of the two evil themes to be called "Voldemort" and "You Know Who", that's excellent. But I agree that the three-note "you know who" is used for a lot of suspensful/climatic parts by changing key and a crescendo; like discovering Hagrid opened the Chamber, and the opening of the Chamber itself. I always get a sad-feeling after listening to PS, probably because of the missing underscore, but partially because I have so much fun! Peter-Who fell in love with music thanks to Philosopher's Stone, and thinks it deserved the Oscar
  14. I absolutely agree with you. I dream of getting the full release of Philosopher's Stone, I really hope it's made. Perhaps we should petition! I'm also looking foward to Prisoner of Azkaban, John will have so much more time so can put in more effort with this score. It deserves it too, the third remains many people's (including my own) favourite in the series. Of course the rest aren't far behind at all!
  15. Bargh, I replied twice before, but they didn't work. The track is from a CD called 'Game Music Concert' performed by the Tokyo Philharmonic Orchestra. It's a masterpiece CD and was released in the early 1990s. Two Zelda tracks were on it, the Overworld (the one you're talking about) and the theme to "Hyrule Castle", both from "A Link To The Past". Another absolutely stunning and superb theme is the medley to "Super Mario Bros." The CD is pretty rare, but if you find it it will be more than worth the price. It spawned three sequels, each just as good over the early 90s. As for the John Williams tag, something this good, people who don't know film music well would easily call this his work. I suppose because he's so well known.
