Naïve Old Fart 9,534
"Nemesis". It is a dark, apocalyptic late-flowering masterpiece.
Sir Hilary Bray 235
Tough one. Each have their merits. I was pretty swayed by Ba'ku Village first time I heard it and like "Prepare the Ship" and "Send your Ships" especially. Nemesis, in its expanded form, grabs but I'm voting for First Contact. Every time I hear that theme and overall I quite like it.
Wojo 2,453
First Contact brings nerd tears when the Vulcan lifts his hood and the music swells. Nothing so emotional exists in 9 or 10.

Uni 306
I love that entire scene. One of Goldsmith's finest sequences.Although Insurrection doesn't have much that's interesting/new as far as the action sequences, the expansion of the four-note "quest" motif for "A New Sight" and "A Perfect Moment" are also wonderful Goldsmith creations that lift the entire score. #SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
That is interesting. Is that lovetheme actually based on the Quest theme?
Dixon Hill 4,234
It does start with a somewhat similar gesture.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
Interesting that no one ever postulated this. I always considered the "US Marshalls" theme as a sort of variation of the Quest Theme.
Uni 306
If we're talking about the same theme (that started in V with "A Busy Man"), then yes. I didn't think it was much of a postulation. The first four notes are Goldsmith's newer Trek motif, then he adds five notes that give it a broader sense of wonder.
Dixon Hill 4,234
Well it's not exactly the first four notes. But yeah.

Jay 37,369
I like reading the liner notes in the specialty label releases, always a nice story about the making of the film as well as the score inside

Wojo 2,453
So you're the one I've been buying a few CDs without liner notes from! It's very nice to meet you.
