A.I and Book Thief weren't box-office sensations or Oscar darlings and still got recognized. Browsing the nominated scores list, Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events underperformed and The Good German and Fantastic Mr. Fox were straight-up bombs (obviously the latter had great reviews, and maybe it broke even if its marketing budget was less than $6 million). Basically I think if they like a composer enough, then they'll still nominate quality work even when the films aren't financially and/or critically successful. There's a decent chance they'll pass on BFG because it was such an anticipated film that disappointed and flew so spectacularly under the radar and there's a general sense from people that the music had all been heard before, but a John Williams score is always gonna be in the mix of possible nominees by default. How could they not at least put it up for consideration? I mean, I don't think they'll make a huge push or anything, but is there really any chance they won't put up an FYC page? Awards Circuit predicts the BFG will be nominated for best original score. How could Dreamworks not at least make a small push? Also, I think it might be Spielberg's own Dreamworks that handles the FYC for this, not Disney. Although I could be wrong. I hope I'm right, because the Dreamworks page is dormant right now, as if in anticipation, while the Disney page is filled with plenty of films -- the BFG not among them. Disco Stu 15,495
My prediction is they'll put up an FYC site almost as a courtesy to Spielberg & Williams, but with absolutely no new music.

Will 2,215
6 minutes ago, Disco Stu said: Oh well maybe. Didn't know the Academy had weird rules about score submission. Here's what I found. Quote Works shall be judged on their effectiveness, craftsmanship, creative substance and relevance to the dramatic whole, and only as presented within the motion picture. Extended, revised, enhanced or alternate versions outside of the film shall not be considered. So, at the very least, "Overture" and "Dream Jars" from the OST couldn't be considered. Unclear how microedits fit in. Do they count as revisions? Probably. The people who put together the TFA FYC were definitely knowledgeable about the rules (this rule, and the one about not having much preexisting music -- in Star Wars, that would be, say, the main title). Hopefully the ones who do the BFG one are too! They could just be stupid or time-saving and throw the OST on there, I suppose, even though some of it can't even be considered.
