1977 1,743
So I know about: Trek I, II and III The Black Hole Meteor Prophesy But which other scores featured Craig Huxley's magnificent instrument? Edit: of course, forgot about 10 Cloverfield Lane and Rosenman's LOTR. Thanks @Jay and @Stefancos. Also Cat People and Battle Beyond the Stars. Thanks @Omen II. I've seen mention that it was also used in David Shire 's 2010. Does Airport '77 have BB? Listening to the Main Title sample on the LLL site, it sure sounds as if it does. James Horner used a blaster beam in Battle Beyond the Stars, as did Giorgio Moroder in Cat People. 1977

1977 1,743
Dunno. I've never been able to get through Krull for some reason.
#SnowyVernalSpringsEternal 10,265
It is....a very busy score, isn't it?
1977 1,743
Just never clicked with me for some reason even though I love Horner's stuff from this period. Maybe it's those terribly dated synth lines. Perhaps I should try the shorter album release (I have the Supertracks expansion).
Popular Post karelm 2,915
Krull is a fantastic adventure/sci-fi/fantasy epic score. Give it another go. One of Horner's best. Not as well recorded or performed as Willow with the same forces but similar epic goodness. The blaster beam is not in that score nor do I recall hearing any synths though there is organ. Krull is also one of his notiest scores with lush and dense orchestration and probably one of his most original. In contrast with Battle Beyond the Stars which uses the blaster beam but also rips entire themes from Goldsmith's Star Trek, The Motion Picture. Like the Klingon sequence with blaster beam and theme. It must have pissed Goldsmith off that Horner was the discount Goldsmith who would get Star Trek II and Aliens after both franchises got their start with fantastic Goldsmith scores. Horner's Humanoids from the Deep also uses the blaster beam. 1977, Yavar Moradi, Gruesome Son of a Bitch and 1 other

The original romantic material, interspersed with more daring postmodern stylings make for a compelling score for me. I found it focused, purposeful, a really great work. Unlucky Bastard 7,782
With the blast beam down, I can't even hear! How am I supposed to fight? 1977
