Popular Post SyncMan 326
Los Angeles Philharmonic Orchestra John Williams, conductor David Newman, conductor https://www.hollywoodbowl.com/events/performances/2929/2024-07-12/maestro-of-the-movies-john-williams-with-the-la-phil Quote Legendary composer and conductor John Williams returns for three magical nights of movie music with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. Maestro David Newman shares the podium for a memorable program that includes music from Hollywood’s Golden Age and contemporary favorites, along with a selection of film clips. No program list, right now. Quote Due to a recent health concern, from which he is expected to make a full recovery, John Williams will be unable to perform at the Maestro of the Movie concerts at the Hollywood Bowl on July 12, 13, and 14, 2024. Maestro Williams originally planned to share the podium with conductor David Newman, who, at John’s request, has graciously agreed to conduct the entire concert. The program will otherwise remain unchanged. For any questions about this change, email Audience Services at information@laphil.org. Last year they were very similar. I don't know this for sure, but I think that they may be less similar this year because in L.A. David Newman is conducting the first half, and at Tanglewood the first half is conducted by Ken-David Masur. Miszka

Miszka 26
No disrespect to David Newman as I was really looking forward to seeing him conduct too, but that's awful news to me. My wife, who is travelling with me to the US in the summer, has never seen John Williams live and it was supposed to be our first concert on a different continent. Without wanting it to sound selfish, I hope it's nothing serious. I wish the Maestro a swift recovery! Brando
atmicwedgy 50
For anyone attending the Friday show (or even Saturday), could you kindly share the setlist (along with any surprises) here? Thank you. Not knowing the details of his situation, I am still a little hopeful that JW might be in attendance at some level (even for just a wave). But we shall see. I am a sucker for the Fugue for Changing Times (the scherzo is extremely good as well). I would love to see those performed as well--hopefully this will lead to a rediscovery to how great the pieces are. Funny that Wide Receiver and March of the Resistance were both played--they are twins. Once and That_Bloke

They all recognized most of it, and they all enjoyed it. Meet the Press was a treat knowing that it is a premiere this weekend and also because it sounded great.
