I am going to be there, too and also with my wife :) Out of curiosity, is the program at the Hollywood Bowl and Tanglewood usually similar in a given year?

Last year they were very similar. I don't know this for sure, but I think that they may be less similar this year because in L.A. David Newman is conducting the first half, and at Tanglewood the first half is conducted by Ken-David Masur.

short anecdote: Ken-David Masur is, of course, a son of conductor Kurt Masur. Another, older, son of Kurt Masur, Michael Masur, works as a piano tuner in Berlin and tuned my piano in 2019.

Due to a recent health concern, from which he is expected to make a full recovery, John Williams will be unable to perform at the Maestro of the Movie concerts at the Hollywood Bowl on July 12, 13, and 14, 2024. Maestro Williams originally planned to share the podium with conductor David Newman, who, at John’s request, has graciously agreed to conduct the entire concert. The program will otherwise remain unchanged. For any questions about this change, email Audience Services at information@laphil.org.

I hope its nothing too serious!!!

No disrespect to David Newman as I was really looking forward to seeing him conduct too, but that's awful news to me. My wife, who is travelling with me to the US in the summer, has never seen John Williams live and it was supposed to be our first concert on a different continent. Without wanting it to sound selfish, I hope it's nothing serious. I wish the Maestro a swift recovery!

For anyone attending the Friday show (or even Saturday), could you kindly share the setlist (along with any surprises) here?  Thank you.

Not knowing the details of his situation, I am still a little hopeful that JW might be in attendance at some level (even for just a wave).  But we shall see.

Williams will conduct, but I predict that he will look like a new man.

You mean he pulled a Karajan?

(I'm not including the original German quote because I can't find an exact source, only two slightly differing accounts)

Reincarnation reference?  Not bad.

However, "new man"  equals "Newman."

Thank you!
Was hoping for 1917's 'NIght Window' to make it, but at least I was able to hear it performed once this year.

Please also post any encore pieces when you can. Cheers!

We were spoiled with Marion's Theme at Carnegie Hall. We got the Theme, plus a good dose of it in The Raiders March.

To those going to the Bowl tonight and tomorrow, enjoy!!

Have these four NBC pieces ever been played all together like this before?

I don't think so.  It is an awesome setlist.  I am a sucker for the Fugue for Changing Times (the scherzo is extremely good as well).  I would love to see those performed as well--hopefully this will lead to a rediscovery to how great the pieces are.

Funny that Wide Receiver and March of the Resistance were both played--they are twins.

Thankfully, he's expected to make a full recovery from his bad case of zimmeritis.

And it's been revised! Meet the Press 2024 Version!  Oops, I think was mistaken. Pulse of Events 2016 version I think

I just checked, on my iTunes is just the audio from YouTube. Here it is if anyone hasn't heard it yet:

Oh wait. The version performed in the concert is a newer version. Oops I didn’t listen carefully enough. It does share the revised beginning with the 2016 version, but beyond that, there are pretty significant differences.

I was there tonight. Wonderful concert and especially enjoyed the NBC “suite” with the concert versions of Meet the Press and Wide Receiver.

Same but it was a weird abridged version I thought.
